Spend my first 3 days in a new city with me as i have an emotional breakdown, show you guys my new living quarters, explore the city and cry in front of my camera. Yayy!

I love that you are pushing yourself and feeling your feelings. I’m inspired by you and your courage to travel on your own at your age. Not everything is going to feel comfortable. It’s okay not to be okay. Feel it all. Then give yourself a chance. If after time it’s not your place…move on. Proud of you. Inspired by you! Just follow your heart, but give yourself a chance to get through this first. If you can’t, move on.

my sisters also made the move to cdmx and when visiting them, i definitely felt like it would be a big adjustment, praying you feel more settled soon, give yourself time to feel, it’s a big adjustment you’re doing great and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone in ways many people never do, once you conquer that fear, you’ll be able to do anything you set your mind to

Thank you for your honesty. A lot of YT make it seem so easy when they move and not speaking the language and always seem happy. Thank you for sharing your tears, its sobering not discouraging. I will be practicing my Spanish. Im sure things will improve, meet some locals, and connect with other expats.

‘’not me cryin on KZbin… do I look cute?’’ Ma’am. Lol… but yes you do! I’m on my own version of Eat, Pray, Love… I read the book years ago and it’s always stayed with me. This year I finally pulled the trigger. I was in PDC for a short while and decided it wasn’t my place, now I’m in Canada. I appreciate you showing this part of your journey, as vulnerable as it may feel. This gritty part is beautiful! Showing the range of emotions that you’re feeling is so honest and relatable. No one talks about the loneliness, the feelings of overwhelm, and then getting up to push yourself to move forward anyway. I don’t know you but I’m proud of you! You’re doing a really hard thing with a lot of grace. I hope you give yourself credit for it. Sending you love and praying your blessings will be the next thing to overwhelm you!

Jasmine!! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. The transition to CDMX was DIFFERENT! I just moved too and similar to you, I'm used to getting up and going to new places but it did feel like the transition here was a little harder for some reason. If I didn't move with my sister, I don't think I would have lasted longer than a week. Give yourself grace, it takes time and I really hope it gets better for you soon. If you're still in town, lets meet up for coffee!! ❤

Hey girl, don't feel bad. It is the approach that is letting you down. Try asking someone for directions to any events and they are more than willing to help you. We Mexicans like to respect people's private space but if you start socialising they will be very friendly.

We lived in CDMX for 3 months and visited many of the areas (even though our apt was in the Roma area). Great city and you can travel around to many of the different districts. Loved the street food every day and did tons of walking which is great. Chapultepec park is amazing.

The beautiful people, the language, culture, you name it. As a Published author, Second Language Instructor, you'll be ok, because I felt the same way after 3 months here, but I pushed through it and I'm glade I did. 😊 Never, Never, Never, Give up. I can already tell you what the issue is. I say this with love because once you get it your entire life and mindset and view will change. You will feel a shift like you have never felt before and it is really exciting once you feel that . That said, though you were in playa, its a very tourist saturated place and you are going to cdmx with american expectations....... Its mexico. You have to just let go like neo jumping across the buildings. You have to let go of how this or that is in america and again yes you have been to another part of Mexico but it's such a bubble there because there's so many Americans and Canadians you might as well be back in America. The spanish will come but you need to practice all the time. Mexican people love it when you try to speak Spanish with them even if it's not good or you only know a couple of words they know you're trying and they are very warm and kind people. Once you let go of all your expectations you will find that city is amazing and you will feel at home after a while. It took me a while to get used to Mexico City but now I miss it and when I'm there it's felt more and more like home I never thought I would say that but you have youth on your side so you're already exploring other countries at such a young age. I think once everything clicks for you you will find that you don't want to go back to the United States

There is a restaurant that sells a hybrid of Mexican and soul food. If you want silk press type results, you have to do it on completely clean hair. Don't add products (max a couple sprays of heat protectant) until you're done with flat ironing. Clarifying shampoo (do 2 or 3 rounds the first time to get all the product and buildup gone), light conditioner if you must, then blowdry and flat iron. Adding the products actually does more damage

can I be real with you? I know you were living in Playa del Carmen but you do realize that is not the true Mexico, rather it's a playground for spoiled Americans and tourists, I think that's the best description I can give it. What you are experiencing in Mexico City is culture shock. 99 percent of Mexico is just like this, every major metropolitan city is similar although maybe not as face paced as CDMX. I hope you start learning the language and get to experience this beautiful country the way it's meant to be. Mexican food is some of the best cuisine in the world because of its variety. I hope you do some street food vids and interact with the locals and try to assimilate into their culture. I'm sure you can connect with other Americans who are going through this journey and maybe you can help each other out. Good luck!

I'm from the UK, knowing basic spanish like I can speak to people on street/how're u/shops etc, nothing major, definitely not able to fully connect with people in deep conversations. YET, as I am taking 2-3 lessons per week right now. Would I be welcomed in CDMX? I have visited before and I enjoy living in London and visited NYC too, I like that city life (although I would opt for outside the city more, not in the populated tourist areas like Roma Norte etc)... But I'm just wondering if I'll be classed as a spoiled british immigrant who can barely speak the national language... I read on the R/MexicoCity on reddit and I'm a little hesitant

So confused as to why foreigners are labeled as spoiled Americans. The area os PDC is touristy, yes ofc, I live there. Why do I live there? bc it's a little cheaper for me in regards to transportation and getting back to the airport. It's not as Spanish heavy so it's easier for me to LEARN Spanish as I try to assimilate into Mexican culture. Obviously im not gonna live somewhere where Spanish is the only option and I'm not conversational yet. Y'all have a weird and twisted mindset of foreigners, so understand that some of us are actually trying to not be gentrifiers and just live peacefully and not annoy anyone with out limited language speaking skills. The 'spoiled Americans' part was so weird of you to say and im not sure what point you're trying to prove. Living in PDC is a STARTING POINT for a lot of foreigners, where I've met French, German, Korean people also trying to learn Spanish and understand the culture.

That city might be too much for u, the language barrier, the hustle & bustle is not for everyone, and sometimes time might help just stay positive, try not to dive too much too fast into Mexico City, if u need to take smaller baby steps & if u need to leave there leave, my thoughts are with u baby.

Mexico city is such a different vibe from playa... Let me tell you you are not the only person feeling alone, and yes... you'll have to learn spanish. And... By the way you were so scared going up that metal stair, I can tell you you've definitely have a wild ride in learning and growing in this place. And... this might be very rough, but this is to teach you a lot. You are totally coming out of a bubble, Playa is a dream place many mexicans don't even dream to get to know. And now you've been put to the real Mexico. That's not something many outsiders dare to do. You have kudos for this. And you'll have to face lots of insecurities. And yes, some people is like that guy who yell at you on the stair... definitely a lot to take for someone coming from a dreamy place like Playa. You have had things way too very soft. You can leave if you want. But I thank you for at least giving a try to this place. I can tell it might not be the place for u, and you might have it really way too hard getting used to it, and honestly totally honest: not too sure it will be for you

It will sound crazy but is truth, if you are an American people won't usually make the first contact or try to socialize while if it's European, Asian or even more Spanish speaking tourist Mexicans will automatically socialize being happy from being visited from far, here comes the crazy part, is because we discriminate Americans? Actually all the way around, we are SO conscious about how our brothers in the USA are attacked day by day being told to go back to their countries or to learn English or leave, so knowing that not all but in general Mexicans are treated like sht over there we sometimes think that Americans visit us just for the food and places but still with their Mexican racism/xenophobic mindset so we are like "why bother them with socializing when probably they don't like us and are here for tourism only.", but if you smile and just say hola como estás, people will see you don't have that mindset and now have green light to socialize, greetings!!

Jasmine, you are not alone! I can relate to everything you are going thru as a constant solo traveler! I lived in CDMX for 3 months last year and even coming from NYC I was like WTH! Its def overwhelming and tenfold when you come from chill beachlife. CDMXExpat and Showaround really helped me meet people. Good Luck on your journey!

Did you go to La Reforma in Condensa? CDMX is real Mexico and ppl are staring at you because you walking around with a camera. That’s weird in the USA as well.

All you need is 5 Mexican friends, and you will never be alone and scared about being in Mexico, I mean you know it is safer than any mayor US metropolitan area. Chill and try the Mexican places, skip the sushi and boutique stores you can find in the USA. Or go back home.

It sounds like culture shock babe, trust me. The people, the mannerisms, the staring, the language barrier, the chaos its a large pill to swallow and on top of that it all can feel isolating! Been there baby when I moved to Spain 10 years ago. Its alot but it definitely gets better especially when you can communicate and find some acquaintances 🫶🏽 Thats the not so fun part of solo traveling, but you have a good spirit about it all! Keep trail blazing and discovering more about Jas! ❤

Well, go back the way you came. Because in Mexico it is not necessary for those who stay to leave or leave.

Let’s be real here, moving to a mega city where you don’t speak the language is going to be a challenge. It’d be like if I moved to Tokyo or something. I think you should practice your Spanish, it’ll open so many doors for you socially which opens even more culturally. Also please remember Mexico didn’t even keep ethnic data in their census until some years ago. It’s not a thing they focus on like Americans do and their constitution states all people no matter the race are equal Mexican citizens. They’re staring because you got a camera, girl lol. That’s all that is
