I'm pretty sure that is where this franchise is heading. There are more employees working for Winston under the Ghostbusters logo than just the original 4, and Winston most likely wants to see that it is handled by a younger more organized generation. Winston did say they are too young for the Ghost busting, but he still suited up. He obviously believes the Ghostbusters are there for a good cause. I'm thinking the next movie will have the team go out of New York or a team come in from another location to help in a particular case. Ghosts are not a New York limitation and daemons have always been a worldwide thing.

I think that Phoebe befriending the ghost girl should’ve been the plot of the next movie. Think about it. The conflict of frozen empire could’ve been “the ghost busters getting a foothold in New York and living up to the originals” and then the next movie could’ve been “are all ghosts evil?” I think that’s ways more interesting then a romantic subplot that, while cute, didn’t have nearly enough time to breath.

I actually think making Phoebe befriend the girl ghost (Melody) and giving her an alterior motive made Garraka’s arrival scene have greater dread because of HOW it returned, by manipulating someone through false affection. He needed a human to speak the words but he only can control ghosts so he found a loophole. It was sort of this movies versions of “clear your mind…Ray what did you do!?” And in turn makes Phoebe the one to have to come up with brass infused proton pack while also being the one to fire it up. Good setup and payoff IMO. One thing I would have liked to see but perhaps they’re saving it for future installments is the Ghostbusters being sucked into the containment unit somehow (RGB style) and having to battle Garraka there. Maybe in the next one the device that allows Phoebe to enter ghost form for 2 mins is upgraded to allow for longer ghost transmutations and enough time to run a necessary mission inside.

There's gotta be some deleted scenes, 'cause it felt like they were going to get into some mystery over how Melody died, with them showing her hanging in a diner with her same name and how that might relate to why she hasn't been able to cross over yet. But the movie was already so dense, I totally get why they'd cut that out. Still curious to see what they'd be, though. Also yeah, the Ghostbusters organization is big enough in New York now that it'd totally make sense for them to franchise out the operation. I'd watch that with that kind of premise I think.

It's a worthy entry into the GB universe. Why so many reviewers are giving this film a hard time is beyond me but you sir are in the minority it seems that really get where this movie was coming from, humourwise, storywise and just the feel of the film in general, so once again thank you for the fair review that does the film justice.

I totally get why reviewers were giving the film a hard time. I went to go see it and was really psyched. Btw, I'm someone who loves GB 1 & 2, and really enjoyed Afterlife as well. Unfortunately, I was uninvested through a lot of Frozen Empire. The Movie Couple really hit a lot of the same reasons why I felt similarly to them, and also to me Dan Murrell's review pretty much summed up the issues with the film and how I felt about it overall. It's sad, because I see the elements were there to have made a really good film, but I feel the writers needed more time with the script to better flesh things out more and better edit it.

I'm glad I found someone that didn't just focus on Phoebe's story line. I get that it was a big part, but people made it way to controversial than it needed to be just because she befriended a ghost. I personally like the friendship betrayal story lines in movies, I think it's a very interesting touch. There was so much more than that to the movie and I'm glad it got covered here! He made many great points and pointed out things I never knew or thought about going into watching the movie. I personally enjoyed it and will come back to it for a good laugh and scare!

@flybriur
@flybriur 5 ай бұрын
Agree. The ghost friend sub-plot needed to be better developed and integrated into the main plot, and if they couldn't have done it due to time or some other reason, they should have cut it. Slimer was just thrown in as an afterthought. So were the tiny Stay Puft Marshmallow Men, which they way they included them honestly made no sense. In addition, some of the characters were not given enough in this film either, which was really sad to see and did them a disservice.

@Black Nerd Comedy I feel like the Ghostbusters should have busted the Possessor. The Possessor felt unnecessary as Garraka, ultimately, didn't need what the Possessor was trying to get. Not to mention it failed to get it anyway. Also, the fact that Winston had the Possessor trapped in his Secret Facility meant the Ghostbusters were able to bust it once before. So them not being able to bust it now makes no sense. In the Original Movie, the Ghostbusters busted multiple ghosts before they went after Gozer and I think that is what made the pacing great. In Frozen Empire, they bust a sum total of ONE ghost before Garraka comes out and that's the Sewer Dragon at the beginning of the movie. Think about that. They, literally, went the entire movie without busting one ghost. The Possessor should have been the mid-point bust to balance the pacing. Also, am I the only who thinks Peck as the Mayor, while funny, makes absolutely no sense? Like, how does the guy who almost nuked Manhattan by shutting off the Containment Unit get elected as Mayor? And it's not like it was an accident. The Ghostbusters told him what would happen if he shut it off and he did it anyway. He knowingly, and willingly, nearly nuked Manhattan. Those aside, I loved the movie. It was properly balanced between the new and old. And both Patton and Kumail were surprisingly well balanced between comedy and drama. I loved the Firemaster stuff, as cheesy as it was. I couldn't help but think that the Firemaster was a massive dig at Dragonball Evolution and M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender and I'm here for it! As far as cramming too much into one movie, perhaps they should have split this into two movies?

The only complaint I had about this movie is exactly what Andre pointed out- there was a bit too much going on at once. It made it feel choppy- mainly the first act- there were just too many interesting storylines going on at once. Like all the ideas in this were good- they just seemed cut down. That causes there to be less time spent with each storyline- hence feeling a tad undercooked to me. That said- I still had a blast with it and it felt like a Ghosbusters movie to me. I'd give it like a "B" level score. I hope they do one more just to make it a canon of 5 films.

The one thing people don't mention like it being a real ghostbusters besides Janine's glasses. But also the appearance I think the Ecto-3 when they went to the library.

It wasn’t perfect, but I had a lot of fun with it. Yes, there’s a lot of forced in references and fire bending is a thing in a ghostbusters movie for some reason, but I’d still rather watch this movie than Ghostbusters 2016 any day.

The Trevor-Slimer subplot should have been cut out or doubled. It barely registers as a subplot in the movie.

Ecto-1 was p[ossessed in the cartoon series. Tons of references in fact. I hope we get more and get it soon. They have a good thing going, so lets keep it going. Glad its not owned by WB

I loved how they used the OG Ghostbusters in this. Unpopular opinion, Venkman's one of my least favourite Ghostbusters [yeah, yeah, boo away, I was an Egon fangirl] but they used him perfectly in this, in my opinion. He's a huge star, so people would be focused on him, and they used him just enough it didn't feel phoned in. They needed an expert on psychic stuff, get Venkman. He shows up to fight at the end and give one-liners [that smoking line killed me. I have a dry sense of humour, so I can appreciate Venkman and his delivery] The sort of fakeout when Phoebe was playing chess in the park, I liked it. When it began I was like "Aww, Egon!" but then it wasn't and I was actually happy. They referenced it from the first film, but Egon has moved on [also the dedication at the end, my heart] All of the original characters felt like a natural progression. Of course Dan, I mean Ray, would be still obsessed with the paranormal. Winston [second favourite and really happy his role didn't feel like an afterthought in this] was always this put together character who knew how to talk to politicians, so for him to be the face of the company, made sense. Even that scene where he tells Ray they need to stop physically fighting ghosts, felt natural. It also felt like the OG Ghostbusters telling the fans in their heart, they're Ghostbusters, but they need to step aside and let others fill their shoes. As for the new Ghostbusters, still love Phoebe. Lucky had some good scenes, but I'm worried she's the new Winston [aka the "And I'm here" when she can do so much more] liked the new guy Lars [though could you imagine if it was Oscar] but he came off lowkey like he was Peck, this smug "Shut this all down" bureaucrat which made no sense since he seemed very passionate about being a Ghostbuster so IDK his tone. I also really liked the family dynamic of the Spenglers. I'm interested in the public reaction to Paul Rudds character dilemma [did he have a name or was it just Mr. Grooberson?] I'm sure today it's more common to have step-parents [I've got them] so to show how they go through this struggle of wanting to be in the parent role, but also wanting to respect the child. And at the same time, that awkward moment as a child where you see them as your parent, but don't know how to say it. Really liked that. Also, personally, found it didn't drag as much as Afterlife. Afterlife was *really* good IMO, but there were a few scenes I felt were just for the trailer, the fans, or the studio demanded more action and they didn't really add to it so they kind of dragged. In this, everything ran smoothly [might notice stuff in reviewing] Overall, solid movie, worth checking out. Personally, it's an in-theatre experience [oh, and you get pins, didn't know that until I overheard someone at the entrance, but you get pins] but it's for the experience, not the spectacle [and also with the cost of everything, I only go to movies I want to support]

I feel like there was a solid story in there somewhere but the film needed a much better editor. Finn Wolfhard had nothing to do in the film and the kid assistants just took up space. I do agree that this was the best use of legacy characters I’ve seen in one of these franchise reboots, but at the same time if they were axed from the film that would leave more time for the two main plots; A. Phoebe struggling/rebelling against her family and befriending a ghost and B. the Fire master/ ice demon plot. I mean that ghost never even suggested that Phoebe become a spirit so they could hangout/makeout (?) Phoebe just stupidly offered to do this thing no one had alluded to that just so happened to be a major step in Mr. Ice demons three steps to take over the world. Pretty sure I audibly groaned when that happened. All in all it wasn’t a terrible movie but it wasn’t a great movie either, and I think I prefer the first movie to this one.

I prefer Afterlife as well. For this one, it did have some intentions and yet misses the target in certain areas. I can’t believe what a mess it was.

I'm no expert, but I feel like other experts have talked about how effects-heavy films get kind of stuck with scenes because they already spent so much money on them and then they have to keep them in. This feels maybe that happened. I also loved the cartoon so I'm fine with it, but I see how that could leave casual viewers feeling antsy.

Ghostbusters International as a TV series where each season we follow a different group of Ghostbusters in a different location all around the world. Think American Horror Story, where each season is it's own standalone story all tied together by a common theme.

This is ALL about your expectations going in. If youre expecting cuckoo cuckoos nest, this isnt your movie. Its a solid ghostbusters film. Its also the only proper GB sequel. One that fans have wanted since 84 in terms of..not having to re-establish the universe…like gb2, or gba. I was totally satisfied with this film.

It would honestly be a wild way to do, like, 2-3 simultaneous Ghostbuster movies that are technically interconnected but also completely separate. Like, Trevor and Lucky are sent out on one mission while Phoebe and Pinfield are sent on another. And you just have ONE scene where Movie #1 gets a minor glimpse into Movie #2, and Movie #2 ends with the Movie #1 team catching up with them. Maybe have some amount of "Home Office" scenes where they're trying to get research stuff done for each team, but technically both stories are happening at the exact same time (tho release date can be 4-6 months apart)

Great review. One thing, didn’t they already establish the song was a song in universe when in II they dance to it at the kids birthday in the opening scenes? Either way makes sense because the word would have spread about them after events w Gozer/ Stay Puft and in universe songs, videos and cereal etc would have existed. So in summary, I liked that too :) added to the world in new but organic way

I had fun with this movie but I was saying the same thing- I wish the villain was more present and threatening throughout. Something like Imhotep from the Mummy or Cell from DBZ where there's tension trying to prevent this powerful villain from gathering his missing pieces to complete his power and become nigh unstoppable. I want to spend time with the villain too and see it do things that make it feel dangerous, Lucky faced it one on one and didn't have a scratch.
