There's a strong sense of physicality to the action that is missing from many other modern action movies.

11:18 That’s what I like about the character. He’s basically an RPG protagonist. He wanders around, discovers weird places, meets weird people, completes quests, kills a bunch of bad guys, doesn’t elaborate further and leaves.

Furiosa used to be from the green place and was taken from her home, when they tried to go back during the movie it had dried up since she was taken. Sounded like you missed that and not sure how

You should check out Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior as Tim Cain says it was one of the primary inspirations for Fallout, they had it on constant replay while making the game and it shows.

There might not be a lot of dialogue in the film, but I still find it emotionally resonant. The action serves the story.

Yes, thank you for this comment. Miller uses actions from the characters and visual storytelling in place of dialogue in Fury Road. As I said in my comment above, the story is there, you just have to watch the film and discover it yourself. I much prefer something like this to movies that explain every detail to the audience like they’re idiots.

As someone who just loves film, I love both movies where people sit around and talk and technical masterpieces like this. I'm the same way with games. To me, if it's good, it's good. Does not matter what the genre or style is. I think one of this movies strengths is that it doesn't spell things out for you. Max is the character we follow and he's an outsider to this community. Us understanding all of the intricacies of what's going on would be the actions of a worse movie that ignores point of view in favor of oversimplification Edit: just wanna make clear that I'm not like shitting on you or anything, just that I think that this is an incredibly unique film and that that's incredibly important in any artistic medium. Your opinions are valid just wanted to offer more context

I don't want Max to talk. I love the body language acting of it all. I love the action sequences. Just phenomenal. I don't need this movie to be more than what it is. That is why i like it so much.

madmax is just the story of a survivor. in a completely decayed, crazy and ruthless world where people mostly kept using the technology last produced before the crisis but still managed to devolve into almost cavemen levels in ways of having an Alpha, believing in afterlife, being primal and feeling the thrill of the hunt (scavange and plunder). there is less to say and more to see, as most of the world that i just described can all be explained by just images and without having someone expolaining it to the audience like we're watching Dora the explorer. The action is actually some of the best i've ever seen coreographed and the practical level of effects just makes it much more believeable. The soundtrack is so fitting for the adrenaline filled chase and for the emotional aspect of the characters. The lack of dialogue also shows that most of them already have been much through so much shit they trust nobody anymore, also they know if they get cought they get used like any other supplies, women are used for breeding and milking, men are used as soldiers to die at young age, even if they are sick, and the rest are left to dry in the desert. i rewatched it yesterday and i still think its a 8/10 really solid in what it wanted to do, i still get goose bumps for much of the action scenes, a masterpiece and a work to be remembered forever. WITNESS MY WALL OF TEXT

This movie is all about distilling the feeling of adrenaline into film. Max is just a surrogate to bring us into the world, story and characters are all secondary. I feel like once Matty gets a broader experience with film, he will come to appreciate what this film does so well. Its uncompromising in its singular focus and that's what makes it great.

I enjoy this channel, and I’m the first to admit I don’t know that much about video games. Hell, I had to Google the Nemesis System after your Mad Max game review. That being said, however, maybe you should stick to game reviews until you get more film watching under your belt. Fury Road is one of the most masterfully designed films of the last 50 years. The story is there, George Miller just expects you to think for yourself and discover the story and themes thru critical thinking. This is a tragic drama through the filter of the most badass action movie ever made. While the action is relentless, you can’t turn your brain off with this like you would a Fast and Furious film. Mad Max: Fury Road is a distillation of everything Miller did beforehand with the series, and it’s a pillar of modern cinema.

As far as story goes, the best one to see for the story is the is mad Max. The first one the second one. The road warrior is a lot like fury road where it's a basic premise with good action. Thunderdome is a little weird but my favorite out of all of them is probably mad. Max

Very good video, and I totally get your opinion. For me I enjoy a nice "popcorn flick" every now and then to just turn my brain off and have fun. A nice pallette cleanse if you will. That's what this film is for me and I can see it not being everyone's thing. I think you might enjoy 1 and 2 a bit but I'm not sure about 3. Looking forward to getting your take on those down the road!

Fury road is a great introduction to the series if you are a casual movie watcher as it’s a very easy balls to the walls chase movie. I still absolutely love it, but ya not a whole lot of nuance to it. Anybody who is big into movies and story though I always always recommend starting with the first two movies as it allows you to appreciate fury road more. If I hadn’t started with the first two movies I would probably have the same takes. The third movie isn’t the best I mean I still like it, but I tell a lot of people they can skip it.

Honestly I think you kinda missed some huge throughlines in the movie. Which is okay ofcourse but I get the urge to explain a little. The central theme of this movie is reclaimation. Taking back what is taking from you. The central characters are Max who gets captured and used as a bloodbag against his will. Slave wives who flee away from their home afraid of their captor. A female warrior running towards the dreams she held of a place no longer in excistence the dream over the horizon and a male warrior wanting to die for glory for a master who doesn't care for his or his comrades lives. The movie is very purposefully structured in the same drive forward and the same drive back. Cause the middle point all these characters who have lost agency and have been slowly regaining it by literally fighting themselves free from the clutches of evil in the form of Immortan Joe. At the halfway point they decide to turn around and face their chasers headon with purpose. They are ready to reclaim their agency and how do they all end up? Furiosa and the slave wives return to what they thought was their prison realizing they can make it a home. We have Nux sacrificing himself for someone who doesn't wanna see him dead but he wants to protect in such a way that he is ready to sacrifice his life for her. Dying being witnessed by someone with love and care. What about Max? well max ends up as a bloodbag again. This time by his own choice to save someone. That which is most important in this desolate place is your strenght and the blood pumping through your engines and he decides to give it to someone in need. Saving Furiosa's life. I get this story is hidden under a boat load of action but there definitely is a very thoughtful story underneath and I would say it does so much more with so much less. But it takes an attentive watcher. It's cinematic storytelling in a masterclass of action. A poetic tale in its most simple form.

Pretty much all the Mad Max films have not much talking. The first Mad Max probably has the most dialog of any of the others, but that's how George Miller tells his stories. The cars and the action are the dialog. He lets the action tell the story. Mad Max 2 (known as The Road Warrior in the US when it first came out) is definitely more like Fury Road. Mel Gibson doesn't speak a lot in that movie, nor do the other characters. Road Warrior is probably my favorite of all the Mad Max movies. I first saw the first Mad Max on HBO back in the late 70's, early 80's when it premiered there and that was with the awful American dubbed voices. When they released Mad Max on DVD with the OG Aussie voices, man it made a complete difference in how that movie came across, and the first movie is definitely up there with Road Warrior for me. The 3rd movie is probably the worst (Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome). It's okay, but it's definitely the worst IMHO. Fury Road I loved. For me, it's right there with Road Warrior, but Road Warrior (Mad Max 2) is still the best out of all of them. You really should go back and watch them. What they did in The Road Warrior is amazing and frightening with the stunts. All practical stunts and effects, no CGI since it was filmed in the 80's. Amazing and it still holds up today. Do yourself a favor: at least watch Mad Max 2, aka The Road Warrior. That is an amazing film! But watching all of them is still a great time to be had.

I absolutely loved this movie but you're not alone. I remember when it came out there was a decent chunk of people that hated that it was all "one big car chase". I think that at the time it came out, we didn't have any movie like it, especially a revival of a classic series. So many remakes were just disappointments and a good chunk of action at the time was considered to be dominated by CGI and quick editing to hide good action. It really wasn't until this, parts of Winter Soldier, and John Wick that we started to get something more interesting in regards to action. I think that's just something to keep in mind. People didn't have a lot of faith, but for it to turn out as insane as it was when everything else was really tame, along with all of the practical stunts, was a gigantic breath of fresh air.

max in this film is a lot like fallout protagonists, if you didnt like max then how you like or not criticise fallout protagonists? in fact max is way better because he acts a lot while your main character in a fallout game doesnt even smile or move a little for anything, and the talking protagonits in fallout 4 actually fixes that

This movie has a strong allegorical aspect, it tells or at least try to tell something about our world and reality in the form of a sci-fi action film. If you don´t care about this then all you get is formal stuff, and the form is so good that can be enough. But If your main interest is "the story" without the allegorical implications and you don´t care so much about the technical aspects either, you are not going to find the movie that interesting. I like and enjoy the allegorical narratives, so I think this film is absolutely a work of art, poetry in audiovisual form, but I understand when people more interested in other kind of narratives doesn´t like it that much.

...I loved to watch movie with subtitle so that I don't missed missheard of dialogue...after 2nd watching this movie that I realize furiosa thought that an eden exist in the wasteland, where water & greenery exist without slavery...the reason they went back was Immortent Joe place is where clean water and greenery exist...so, they want to take over the place...I understand why matty kinda lost with the movie, I was too the first time watching it. Anyway, at a time where cgi mess movie was too overwhelming, watching this movie that uses practical effect was refreshing...

Not saying one approach is better than the other, but I find it interesting that this came out the same year as Star Wars Episode 7 and was the start of the Disney run for that franchise. Mad Max to this point has only had a few iterations since while Star Wars has been pumping out new media every year for the most part.

This is a good take, i just watched it aswell and this movie is extremely overrated and is more apt as the 'amusement park ride' analogy Scorsese made even moreso than Marvel films imo. There's nothing to be invested in or care about, it's just action and set pieces that get repetitive after the first 15 mins. It also looks like an AI film with no lighting or shadows, just clean filtered imagery that clashes against the apocalyptic/gritty setting imo. It's very well-made for what it is, ill give it that. I'm obv in the minority tho, just not my cup of tea or what i look for in a film. Although I do get why ppl love it.
