I think she does her best acting as Katherine if I'm being honest, I don't think she's made for the cliché main character roll, but Nina's acting is always phenomenal as Katherine in my opinion! She's a fantastic actor!

It wasn't acting according to an interview with the cast. Her grandfather died the day before and when she fell to the floor crying and Candice (Caroline) looked sideways, she was looking at the director to see what to do... sad, but such a raw moment. Another was the episode where Damon dies and she says, "don't leave me" and he says "I don't have a choice baby." They broke up the day of filming!

Elena being such a good fighter makes sense in that scene because Caroline is holding back bc of her feelings towards Elena. Elena on the other hand has 0 feelings and wants to kill her. She has no emotions in the way. It makes a diff when fighting. Also, months or so don’t make too much diff in strength. You need a few years to make a diff. Plus Elena is a trained fighter and Caroline isn’t.

So if elena is trained like a hunter and is a vampire she might just slightly be abit better than Caroline only in the fighting part. But when it comes to strength Caroline will overpower elena.

Alaric was just a human who made some weapons and had a ring that won't let him permanently die so he went chasing vampires to find out about his wife but Alaric was not a supernatural hunter. I'm not saying that his training didn't help Elena, I'm saying that it's not enough to overpower Caroline who has experience in fighting supernatural beings. It happened bc Caroline was not willing to hurt Elena. Did you see her face when Stefan told her to snap Elena's neck when she sees her. Caroline was horrified at the thought lol. She was not going to hurt her best friend and that's why Elena won.

No Elena is stronger. Months do not matter, vampires only are stronger than others when they are many years older. And Caroline only beat Damon because she was furious. When they would battle in the same state (for example both with emotions turned off) Elena would win because Alaric trained her.

She couldn’t use her strength to get him off so instead she knocked him off balance by snapping his wrist and head butting him by surprise. Elena getting “training from Alaric” doesn’t mean a thing lol. Elena still relies on sneak attacks, and unfairly written out fights. In a realistic fight caroline would definitely beat her, period.

It's weird because I agree that this is one of Nina's best acting scenes as Elena, but not overall! It's so strange to me that Katherine and Elena are both Nina. I don't know how to describe it but sometimes her acting with Elena can be a little cliché, but she always seems to get Katherine perfect! Maybe she's just better suited for that roll, I don't know, but Nina as Katherine is definitely some of her best acting moments to me!😊

@@youreinvalid8493 Her acting of Elena is phenomenal. How is it cliche? Sure, she has the typical leading girl tropes at times, but she makes it more interesting to watch. Plus, of course her scenes with Katherine may be a bit better because it's such a different presence from the sweet Elena. However, that scene on episode 15 was definitely one of her best throughout the whole series. Even better than some Katherina moments because it was literally the break down she needed to have since season one, where she bottled up so much. Anyways, Nina is awesome and I love her as both characters!!!!

I also had the same thought you did regarding Caroline and Elena's fight but if you think about it, Caroline is a vampire but she hasn't really trained. In Elena's case, she was trained by Alaric for months and when she became a vampire, her strenght and abilities were heightened. Also, I know you hate Matt but it makes a lot of sense that he was the one to get Elena to calm down in that scene. Sure, Stefan and Damon are in love with her and there's that whole triangle situation, but Matt is Elena's oldest friend along with Bonnie and Caroline, he's one of the most human connections she has which is why, imo, he was the one to help her there!

Nina is an amazing actress. (Spoiler) She plays 4 different characters and somehow you can tell immediately, who it is. Even if she’s Katherine pretending to be Elena, Elena pretending to be Katherine or even (spoiler) Katherine in Elena’s body. Her eyes tell an entire story, especially while playing Elena with no humanity. Her eyes look so dead while looking so alive, and her face is almost unreadable in a perfect way for someone who isn’t feeling anything. As much as I love Candice and Paul, they could never. Their no humanity scenes are just not as perfectly portrayed with their eyes. Nina’s eyes do be telling me everything without telling me anything, and I’m both impressed and terrified.

I'd have to agree. Although, I do think Caroline (Candice) did what she had to do when her emotions turned off. However, I think Elena overall had the most impressive one because there wasn't any fancy direction like Caroline's emotionless moments and there wasn't any huge power spike with her like when Stefan turns his off; it was all in her acting and overall expression.
