Although the group was called D-Train, that was actually the nickname of the singer, James "D-Train" Williams, which he got as a football player in HS in Brooklyn, NY. My favorite songs from D-Train are, "Somethings On Your Mind" and a nice slow jam called "Your The Reason" you should definitely check those songs out. Another artist who was huge at that time was a guy named Colonel Abrams. You should definitely react to his songs, "Trapped" and "I'm Not Gonna Let"

In the UK we used to call this music 'Boogie'. Mix of funk, disco and soul. It had a small window in the early 80s. Died out by 85, and then the music morphed in to Street Soul followed by early New Jack Swing by the very late 80s, and soulful House/US Garage.
