Tbh I’ve had a fascination with king cobras ever since I was a little kid. I remember the first time I fell in love with them too. They were what got me into reptiles in the first place! I call it “the twinkle eye effect” and what it means is it’s where you find something you know you want to dedicate a majority of your time learning about a subject, whatever it may be. For some it might be machines, for others, it might be the human body. Still others might find it in something as mundane as how to improve the design and functionality of a paper clip. While I don't like the practice of de-venoming, I can't deny that a king cobra without the venom would make an amazing pet snake given how intelligent they are and how friendly they can be when handled and socialized.

@@HolyNorthAmericanEmpire Eastern indigoes are endangered in the wild and have tight regulations in captivity - in America, they can't cross state lines (because of the endangerment, and because the captive gene pool is so small that the captive populations have troubles with inbreeding). It's actually harder, in some places, to get an eastern indigo than it is to get a king cobra.

@@NewEnglandReptile just reading this 5 months later im watching this video for the 2nd time but, I can understand Kevin not wanting to go against his morals and the message he's trying to represent, thats more important to him then growing a KZbin channel but I also understand Donnie wants to grow the channel and get the information to as many people as possible so that the right message ultimately gets to the majority of the masses ...... its a compromise this is Kevin life and true love and morals and character is super important and rare these days and thats why I absolutely love this channel because it respects every animal involved in the life cycle, I say that to say this keep up with kevins perspective for the most part because it sets this channel apart along with the amount of experience, love,respect, and knowledge everybody has especially Kevin the knowledge end, push some of the boundaries in a fun not disgusting fetish type way of watching animals being eaten ect..... because you could loose the amazing fan base you have now that is watching for the information and genuine feel of the channel ( this is just my opinion) but I would rather have a really good set of subscribers that rock with me and truly care about the integrity of the channel and how information is presented and the animals are treated then having a huge amount of subscribers that really don't care and just want to see the gruesome shock factor, NERD represents responsibility, care, and maintaining the best possible life for a captavie animal( again my opinion) and trying to teach others the same to give their animals, and thats amazing 👏 applause for everybody in the team, because its hard work and constant learning and adjustment to care for animals!

Thanks for making this video. I don’t think many people realize just how awful the venomoid surgery is. There were so many botched surgeries on snakes when these were more common to do in the community. I’m glad they aren’t common anymore. I always thought snakes are things to be feared but they are more afraid of you. I was under the impression the constrictors were the only ones who would not have a problem with people because they see us as prey. I really enjoy learning about these guys. Since I’ve started watching this channel I’ve been able to be less afraid and can actually look at snakes without being uncomfortable. Thank you for that.

Im in a snake fb group and its had the same impact on me. However I will say the line about animals being more scared is always nonsense. If someone accidentally steps on my foot I dont turn around and shoot them whereas a snake will do the equivalent of that. Also snakes go into houses in like india or somewhere like that and bite and kill sleeping kids/babies. Snakes kill like 150 thousand peopke a year and seriously injure/require amputation on another half million people lol.

@@leahanderson1576 Venom is surprisingly very valuable and useful for pharmaceutical research because it can actually have medicinal uses. It has components in it that can help in treating things like strokes, heart attacks, and embolisms, so its used in pharmaceutical drugs.

On the other hand, declawing may be cruel to an extant but it has/does kept destructive cats from being dumped or killed by owners who owners who couldn't deal with their shit being torn up. Sometimes owners aren't especially down with the procedure but are given an ultimatum by their landlord: claws go, cat goes, or you both go. On the 3rd hand if you're a mutant, or one of the feet if you're not, comparing cats to venomous snakes isn't really fair. Venomous snakes belong in their natural wild habitat aside from a few circumstances. They're not and never have been domesticated. The cats typically kept as pets don't even have a natural wild habitat...right? Or am I wrong about that? Feral cats exist but (correct me if I'm wrong) originate from domesticated cats; at some point in their ancestry, a pet cat became a homeless stray, who went on to reproduce and the offspring were raised without much, if any, human contact. Take measures to reduce the incidence of pet cats become strays, even if it means the dreaded declawing, along with spaying/neutering, and the invasive feral cat population will slowly decline over the years? Idk, maybe not but it seems logical to me. Just so we're clear, I don't like the idea of declawing in general but I have seen it save cat lives. I know what the procedure entails and I'm not a sadist. My thoughts on the topic are more along the risk/benefit analysis line in regard to the average American cat owner/potential cat owner who doesn't consider or maybe even know about other options. Which is more cruel? Declawing a cat to stop it from scratching your shit up and continuing providing a home for it? Or abusing/abandoning/killing it to keep it from scratching your shit up? I'm not pro-declawing and, if anything, I'm anti-cat (nasty destructive stinky bastards) lol but don't like seeing them tossed out for shredding furniture and whatnot by people who would've otherwise kept them if not for the destruction. Obviously, the problem mainly lies with owners who don't bother with attempting to train but they're gonna exist either way.

As far as the feral ones coming from domesticated cats we didn’t domesticate cats from my understanding. They domesticated themselves. They chose to come around humans and kill rodents that we attract and people in turn fed them and became close with them partially because of the service they provided and partially because many of them like to socialize and cuddle with humans. I believe it started with the Egyptians. Someone please correct me if I’m mistaken.

When I moved to Texas I saw several snakes in my yard because my house backs up to a field. I watch snake videos so I can identify the venomous ones and not be scared of all of them. So far I've run into a rattlesnake, but no other venomous ones.

To be a successful reptile youtube you have to be equally informative and entertaining. A lot of people already in the hobby don't like the fact you have to entertain to grow your viewership but it's how you get new people interested in the hobby. Actually King Cobras are non-aggressive unless you piss them off. You're confusing them with the spectacle cobra (the one with the marking in the back of the hood), which wants to bite/kill everything that gets close to it.

I knew a person who was doing the surgeries. But he was able to perform the procedure without removing the glands somehow. This was back in “89”. The person I am referring to is no longer alive, but supposedly at the time, he was the only person person the “devenomation “ in this manner. I was a teenager at the time snd remember handling some of the vipers that he “devenomized “... Blacktail, Banded rock, and Tiger rattlers. Also handled a Palestinian viper and northern copperhead. Looking back now, I sure was trusting that these surgeries were performed correctly. Lol. At my age now, I would never risk the bite. He performed these surgeries for about 2 years, had a huge list of people that wanted the surgery done on certain animals, but he died young and relatively early into his tenure of “devenomizing”.

The way you get people interested in the reptile hobby is to just BE AUTHENTIC! Your guys' personality drew me in like a moth to a flame, and I was instantly enamored with NERD and everyone who works there. Through NERD, I was introduced to USARK and many other great people like Donny, Rob, and Kevin, for example. Your snakes are beautiful and you're very brave to handle venomous snakes. The cobras are breathtakingly beautiful but I personally wouldn't go anywhere near them (except for maybe Papa). I recently saw a video of someone who took horrible chances with a snake tank they had removing a baby and with the snakes in that tank. I watched this person for years and I think he could be an amazing educator. I was so upset I voiced my opinion to him about the risks he took. I tell everyone I know about you and your facility! I don’t really understand what the hate is about deglanding. We descent ferrets on mass in the US. Descenting, however, is done solely to reduce smell. A ferret poofing won’t kill or seriously injure someone. Clipping a birds wings is mentally damaging, and we still do it, despite it not protecting them (and it has been proven that a clipped bird can still fly with a breeze, meaning it won’t stop them flying outside). Removing the venom glands in a venomous snake is no more harmful than the stupid convenience procedures we do to animals by the thousands. I’m not trying to argue, I just don’t understand why this is a problem when it’s commonplace in society. If anyone could explain, that’d be great.

BUT the truth is it doesn’t matter to people. The video I spoke of earlier, was done by someone that actually survived a king cobra bite.... but they still take chances and no one cares. I think NERD's videos have so much depth, so many layers. And every single layer so well assembled together. I won't lie, at the very first video I watched I also thought it was overdone (Why all these stuff just to say what is there to be said?). But as time went by and I keept watching the videos I started to realize how great they were. Now it is just my favorite format of videos. Crazy, isn't it? In my perspective it has someting to do with how good it shows Kevin, Rob, Jeremy and others just as people. I mean, it isn't full of characters and performances. The contrast between this frankness and striking edition (with crazy shots and so on) makes it really amazing. Any great super hero movie has a great editing and production, but the characters aren't real. In NERD they are, and there is also the great editing around it to make it pop. I love the perspective you bring Donny. Well, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy it. Thank you all so much. S2

Without question I think that Cobras are the most gorgeous of all snakes. The way they gaze and glare with those beautiful eyes just melts me. I love watching professional people such as you Kevin, too handle them and to do what I call "The Cobra Dance" when you're both reading eachothers body language and movements. It's really like watching Ballet dancers!

As a fellow reptile fan, I think you guys are awesome. Don't have the means to have a reptilian roommate at present, but trying to get there. If I ever get to New England I will definitely stop in. Got to get a motorized vehicle of some sort. You are just a side trip from Binghamton, NY where I need to go and visit anyhow. When I was a teenager, and folks called me a Nerd, I would reply, Yep and proud of it. Camped in Copperhead and Coral snake habitat in Florida. Seen quite a few. A couple of Coral snakes used me for a warming rock. No biggie. No bites. My dad taught me how to deal with that situation. You play rock, be still and relax and as soon as the snake is warm enough, they leave. My dad was a Boy Scout troop leader and he and his buds took the boys on camp out to a Copperhead hot spot. Camping in their bedrolls. So of course the snakes crawled in. They were ready, just in case anyone got bit. They coached the boys on how to react and the snakes left. I had three brothers who had Copperheads for snuggle partners. Me, I was mad at Dad, because I was not among them. I was a GIRL. Damn. Never had a pet snake, just lots of interactions with others pets and wild snakes that I shared a patch of woods with when I was homeless. So, I think you guys are f... g awesome.

Papa is true story of Pinnochio. Don Generico Italiano, who had no children and who lost his wife 10 years ago, would make the spaghetti every sunday like his wife enjoyed. Don Generico always wanted a child but he and his late dona bella never got around to it. On this night though he got very drunk and forgot to put his pasta in the fridge. Looking out his window, he glimpsed a shooting star, as he made a wish and passed out. The next morning he woke up and his bowl of spaghetti was nowhere to be found. But there in its place, a noodle with a fache. Don Generico, startled, screamed " cos'e^ questo mia papa!". The noodle, confused and startled , replied "no, tu sei mio papa. Chiamami mamba italiano!". 😂😂😂

For everyone new to snakes as I am, a venomoid is a snake that has had a surgical procedure to remove its venom. I love and watch a lot of the videos from NERD, but I wish they would put a quick explanation on the screen to certain words or terms that they use.
