Two theories: It's possible that in the moment he says it, Tyson means it to himself. When he says he loves boxing, he loves it. When he says he hates the sport, he hates it. He always floats retirement when the big fight doesn't yield the endorphins he chases. He's done the retirement thing after each major fight. Now in loss, as in victory he feels the same letdown. No desire for revenge or to try to make it back to the top. He made it, it didn't get him what he was hoping for. Now he wants out. Like each time he won. Second theory: He's tested positive for steroids and retirement will keep it quiet like when he did his first retirement after the Klitschko fight. That story didn't break until nearly two years after his fight with Klitschko. If it's the first case, he'll find his way back, if only for the money. His pursuit of the best purses has been the only consistent thing about his career. But I think right now, he thinks he means it, but as boredom sets in, and hopefully options like drugs are not easily available to him, he'll come back. If it's the second theory, he might stay retired this time. It would be the ultimate stain on his career for it to come out that he tested positive for something and still lost anyway.
