As a retired trucker of 26 years, I want to make a suggestion. If you have some old carpet remnants, slip them between your straps and what ever your hauling as you tighten down your straps. It will protect your straps from being worn in two at a rub point. Worked for me hauling oversized And normal sized loads. Watch you daily! Really enjoy y'alls videos. Best wishes for upcoming New Year.

Robert, you are so right. I was a trucker myself back in the late 70s up to the time they grandfathered in the license (I just let my license exp. because I couldn't drive any more) . Anyway ... when I needed to use my straps I had an Old-timer (driver) tell me to do that and it did save my straps. A good strap is not cheap & with prices now-a-days ya need to protect what ya have. God bless

I always kept pieces of carpet on my hot shot rig 40' gooseneck neck with a single axle Volvo truck with a super 10 Trans and 350 Detroit couldn't tell I had a load at anytime. All over the USA. Then I went long haul, should've stayed hotshoting.

On the generator check the crankcase ventilation for icing. It might be plugged with ice and that would create excessive crankcase pressures forcing oil out the dipstick.. Remove the air filter to check the crankcase vent hose.

THought the same thing, something is making more pressure in there now. I know oil looks like a gallon on the floor when its only a little bit spilled but i wonder if he even checked the level after he noticed the leak.
@ralfhouston2591
@ralfhouston2591 Жыл бұрын
I second that thought. I worked for years in automotive repair and would see the same thing. Check the air filter housing for oil as well. That crankcase pressure can be sneaky and will find the weak point in your engine sealing. Remember gravity when checking for the failure point. It might be worthwhile. The other thing you should check is an exploded diagram of the dipstick tube where it enters the crankcase. If there is no sealing o-ring or gasket, the sealer you applied will just make the pressure cause a leak at the next weakest point. This could cause a gushing leak which would probably shut the motor down if you have an oil level shut down.

I applaud Al and Gina's hard work which takes equipment. I heard Al mention that one half of his time is spent producing these videos we all enjoy for free. We have no problem paying for entertainment such as movies and sports event. KZbin is free to us and is a great source of entertainment and learning that I look forward to each week. Don't let jealousy and envy spoil your joy in life, but enjoy the blessing God gives to others along and ourselves. Blessings to the Lumnah family.

If you get 2 or 3 snatch blocks for the winch you can use it to pull stuff off the trailer or add pulling power to the winch to pull something on to the trailer. At the top of the dipstick by the pull. It does have a “O” ring on the stick I rewatched the work you did and it has the one on the stick. The oil leak might have been caused by excess pressure buildup within the crank case, if the (PCV) positive crank case ventilation system is not operating properly. The PVC should be creating a slight vacuum / negative pressure within the crank case, which should prevent oil from being blown out at the dipstick tube. Maybe a suction hose/tube is loose or the PCV valve is malfunctioning. Nice trailer! I like the galvanizing.

Good thought there gup. Engineering should have had that covered. As a safety feature it would seem a really crummy one given the mess it makes and the environmental issues. Doesn't sound right. As for the pump he may cover it shortly as he's been a rolling stone sorta. But he goes through these comments knowing the brain trust that they have tapped into. Call it a Carnege thing. If they don't know something they have subscribers like us to bring it to their attention because we all love them that much.

I will second an opinion expressed in another comment. The only way to get that kind of leak is internal crankcase pressure. Check crankcase vents and all filters that lead to the crankcase. Excess crankcase pressure is the cause now.... Good luck. BTW, I don't support the ice build up idea since running the engine would thaw that out...But dust and the like can clog filters and vents. A call to the generator vendor might be in order too. You are doing it all right - it is just a little more than simple, evidently.

Good tip - I've read that as well. An egg with it's natural protective coating can make it last months without refrigeration in proper conditions.

I bet Al already figured out the oil leak, but if the engine oil was way overful, it will blow back into the air filter box and then leak out. Usually soaks and ruins paper air filter too. Oily air fiilter won't flow enough air to engine.

You asked if anyone had any ideas on how to make the snow not stick, and what i do is wax the augers with the turtle paste, but it has to be done in hot summer like when you would wax a car. Anything else you may put on now while it is cold, the snow will just eat off as you go. But you have a heated place to work on it so you may be able to apply a coat now after a good cleaning. I have tried silicone I have tried wax from candles, cooking spray hot oil, the only thing that stayed with any length was the polish paste buffed with a wheel to a shine.,,,, You have sparked the apb for a used toolcat to me local. glad you got the hose fixed . Al Sir, you need a pole barn. Don’t build it yourself, just have contractor build it, you can still finish the inside but speaking from experience, 40 x 60:is the minimum and better to go with 14’ walls to hold the 5th wheel you be buying in a few years. Best to have a 7/12 pitch and don’t put the doors where the snow will slide off or ice build up. I love your toys and miss mine too.

I always enjoy following your methodical reasoning when problem solving. Thanks for keeping us in the loop at every step. It brings back fond memories of helping my grandpa work. He was a farmer born in 1889. He lost part of his right thumb while plowing his fields. The horse got spooked and bolted. Unfortunately grandpa Bill had the reigns wrapped around his thumb. It popped off with the first jolt. "I never did find that thing" was his only complaint. He never appeared to miss it much. He could wrench better than any man I've seen since. His hands were massive, if he couldn't get his hand into a space he invented a tool or a technique to "get the job done". I loved being his right hand girl, shadowing his every move. I got so that I could anticipate what tool he would need next. I'm sure my time with Grampa influenced my decision to go into Occupational Therapy at age 13. I've been retired now for more than 6 years but still enjoy servicing & repairing my own equipment just like Grampa did. Thanks for the trigger to take a trip down Fond Memory Lane, AL. Blessings abundant to you all, and a Happy New Year too!

I would like to offer two suggestions. You asked what new truck should you consider. I suggest a 1 ton Dooley of what manufacturer you prefer. Other suggestion is loading your trailer with something like the chicken coup. A couple of 2 in pipes that will fit under skids and roll up in trailer will help considerably loading and unloading. Also relieve tension on the winch.

Recommendation for pickup: a nice 3/4 or 1 ton Deisel pickup. New they can be as much as a house. One I have is Dodge 2nd Gen 24v Cummins 2500. Pulls strong carries 3000 lbs payload and pulls 13,400 lbs. Of you get a well maintained one they go and go.

chains and binders for moving the machines, also get some airbags for your truck it will help with leveling it out when loaded, if and or when you upgrade to a bigger truck I would suggest a 1 ton, dully if possible just because your toys keep getting bigger so eventually you will need the extra power, towing capacity and stability of it.

At 33:44, when you are talking about using brake cleaner, there is a hose-to-metal-tubing connection, attached to a framing member. The steel tube is bent into a tight “j”-and it is KINKED, collapsed!!! Much like a McDonald’s straw when you try to suck too much milk shake through it. Whatever fluid that passes through that tube, it is impeded.

I'd be sure to still clean all that road salt off every time you get done using the trailers. As someone who's worked for a DOT the only way to keep things from rusting is to keep it clean and a good coating of fluid film before every winter. That salt can still damage the galvanized coating they use.

With your snow blower system - you have become a traditional farmer. 'Ya buy something used at a good price, 'ya then discover and fix the "used" issues one piece at a time, 'ya find some attachments you need or are dying to have, the deeper you dive in the more you find, and then you doubt yourself. UNTIL you price your result brand-new. Then you're greatful for what you have and realize that had you aimed for brand new for the same it would either be out of range or that buying new would have impacted all else on the farm. Plus, by the time you're done you know (all too well sometimes) what you own inside and out.
