I know that the general public thinks that KZbinrs make a lot of money and that it is easy. Most people don’t realize the amount of work that goes into making a channel successful and that it takes years to get to a substantial number of subscribers. You are down to earth in your content and obviously put a lot of thought and effort into it. Today I ordered my first ever tractor, TYM 574 HSC. Thanks to your channels I have not only learned a lot but also got the confidence to buy one knowing I will be able to do a lot of the general maintenance, I’m not mechanically inclined but you step by step instructions have helped me to think I can do this. Thank you.

Reading your comment wanted to point out, I just posted a video earlier today of maintence on my 574, the video is based off of a 350 hr service, which will cover everything you need to do the lower hour services.

My brother-in-law encouraged me to start my channel. I’ve been making videos almost 3 years now. I just got monetized in February. My content is variable, but I’d class it all under rural living / homesteading. Some tractor stuff, some firewood and wood stoves, some gardening and orchard, some diy projects and fixing things… mostly just me doing what I do to take care of our property. Sometimes I make a video to share info that I think might help someone - I like helping people. I’ve never really been chasing subscribers and such. I still make my videos with my phone! You’re right that can be a pain, but I’ve gotten used to editing on the phone and have gotten pretty good at recording clips that are relatively easy to edit together. I can’t justify sinking money into expensive video equipment for something that I do very much on the side, so for now my quality will stay at a medium level. I’ve seen some poor videos, and some great ones… and I rate myself in between. Maybe someday I’ll upgrade! You are absolutely right about the troll commenters too. Just gotta ignore it. I got one yesterday “take better care of your lawnmower”. Not sure why except maybe the machine looked dirty? Of course it’s dirty, I stopped to make the video midway through mowing! 😆

I wouldn't even try to start a KZbin channel, mainly because I don't really have the time for it. I enjoy watching videos while kind of "winding down" after working around our property. I subscribe and follow a few channels just because the content is interesting to me. I appreciate yours and other channels.

Thanks for making this video, Hank. I've thought about starting a channel because my interests are so varied and I thought that would attract more viewers. They're somewhat unrelated, but could be tied together under a "doing things yourself to save/make money" type of things. It ranges from cutting trees/splitting wood to fixing 4 wheelers and golf carts to remodeling houses. Thanks to your video, I now know I should really consider narrowing it down to get a more focused audience. Maybe 2 channels? LOL

Man Hank, some EXCELLENT points made in this video. I have a small (tiny) channel, and I am just now in the process of figuring out if I want to make a push with it to grow it and possibly get it monetized. And I've been debating about whether I really want to do it or not, because I foresee people making some really nasty remarks, and I'm not the most thick-skinned person in the world. I'm glad that you brought up that aspect. There were also many other very valid points that you brought up. I just found this video very informative. Thank you!

Excellent information and explanations Hank. I started my channel just for fun and I keep that in mind. I love working with different aspects of taking care of our property and deer leases. So although I am only 5 or 6 videos in, I have a large variety of content planned but it all pretty much has to do with maintaining my equipment such as welding and fabricating stuff for my TYM T474, and our other tractors and things. I enjoy doing it, but was well aware of how much work was going to be involved from the get go. My plan is to do at least one video a week as soon as I get my new shop finished with A/C in it. Southern Arkansas can be brutal when you are inside a metal shop. LOL. Thanks again Hank. Great information sir.

Great video hank, it is a long road for sure. I still struggle with moving the camera, and reminding myself to talk to the audience and not to the camera. I make videos about the tractor, log skidder, felling and logging trees, and firewood processor. It has kind of turned into a forrest mitigation strategy....lol. They might be too different to really take off but, if im honest youtube at this point is more for me, as a video diary that I can look back on, or my kid can look back at in 10 years when this part of the property looked differently etc. Definately not a huge growth strategy but it keeps me going.

@hhamilton1970 Thanks, I'm great full to have you watch a video I made, you big guys are what inspire us Lil guys to keep on moving to some day aspire to be full time. Lately I have made more skidder videos as I am spending allot more time on that except for snow clearing. I have allot of ground that I need to mitigate for fire prevention, so that has become a huge focus, the tractor is used for limbing and stacking but that's about it lately. I have found though that doing the revisions from long form into shorts has basically doing snipets has contributed way more subs then long form, but as you said that my be more of a burden then a help long term...,wait and see.

All good advice. Do this, but still expect to fail. Don't quite your day job 🤣. I'm 3 years in, 300+ videos in, and don't have the minimum hours or subs to rub 2 pennies together. Just know that most people fail at KZbin in the first year, and then there's idiots like me that can't read the room enough to know when to quit, lol. But other than that, it's okay I guess?

I've been on KZbin since 2009 i think and still have yet to hit a 1000 subs lol. However i have many different types of videos and I started out with a Dailey/weekly vlogs called behind the wheel. "Life as a local truck driver" but ran out of content to film and as time went on companies started not allowing me to film with their name or what i did for that company as a driver. So after that i kind of fell off of KZbin for a few years with jist random stuff. Now it seems my channel does decent with harley videos a harbor freight review products as I'm not affiliated with either company but i seem to get views just not the subs generally over 5k veiws per months on my channel but stuck a just shy of 700 subs. I will admit i fall short on being consistent and that falls onto the editing time of the videos. Any advice??? Thanks in advance. Also great videos and would definitely like see more making or how you made a successful channel.
