a friend of mine has a quite simple fuel setup running currently on his KTM 990 turbo . Its a bit crude to say the least but its returning good AFR readings . fuel injection with out much modification . simply just injector and inlet pressure switch that runs power to the extra injector and a ground pulse from original ecu so it syncs the injector with the original ones duty cycle . The extra injector flow size was calculated against the air flow of turbo which gave a good indication of how much extra fuel would be required under boost . it works well for what it is . its not a permanent option tho for this project we just needed to get something up and running with what we had at the time. The system isnt perfect but for some one on a budget is very viable option .

In your example of the max airflow of a boosted 2L engine being the same as a 1L NA engine, them flowing the same amount of air in their standard respective formats, great but doesn't that mean if you boost the NA 1L you'll actually need a bigger turbo than the calculation suggests as the volumetric efficency will be much greater under boost condition? EDIT ah balls it's all based on just revs vs capacity isn't it, sizing of the turbo is done to suit that and applies to both. Makes sense.

I don't think comparing any engine to any other engine... xD one may be under square while the other over square... an engine that's more undersquare for it's displacement will run much higher fuel consumption/horsepower numbers... as in piston speed :) bore makes horsepower, stroke dictates torque and where the power band is/where the rpm is cut off... so if the bore of each cylinder on one engine is 105 mm and the bore on another engine is 87 mm... but the 87 mm bored engine is 17000cc while the 105 mm bored engine is 1000cc which is much faster and pushes/consumes much more fuel and power to the wheel? the 1000cc ;) so it could handle a bigger turbo at higher crank rpm but at the same piston speed as the 87mm bored engine, which has a longer stroke for the added CCs...
@dirtygarageguy7 жыл бұрын
"I don't think comparing any engine to any other engine" - James Watt did, and he defined horsepower. "bore makes horsepower, stroke dictates torque and where the power band is/where the rpm is cut off" - no, that wrong. The stroke dictates how much torque can be produced give a given force acting on the piston. Nothing makes horsepower, HP is a measure of work done. Torque over time. That's why torque is Nm or ft.lbs and power is measured in hours minutes and seconds. 1 HP = 550 foot-pounds per second = about 750W
@BULLDOGHOTSHOT17 жыл бұрын
The Workshop you're definitely correct but the pistons have a limited speed they can reach :) and I'm not speaking of pro dragster running something like 7000 fpm xD but more along the lines of 4600 fpm :) I think that's right where formula one cars sit, because it's pretty safe for a high end racing engine for long periods of running time :) so if that's the top of the fpm then increasing the stroke will just increase torque :) but then you're rpm drops... so you're not making any more horsepower :) cuz you're not running anymore fuel consumption, you're just putting a longer lever on it so it's got more leverage at the crank :) I love your videos btw xD nobody else actually talks about these things... and it's helping me grow some more
