Folks, In Australia the GMH V8 Commodore was used by gangs when they held up banks, stores etc.. as a getaway vehicle because the police could not catch the car due to its amazing power and handling. Unlike a Chevy Camaro you can fit up to 5 large gang members and have a large trunk to store their guns and ammunition when they are going to commit a robbery. I believe they should use a highly modified Chevy SS in Fast & Furious 10 which will be filmed partly in Sydney Australia and the USA. Take Care, David Matherson

I get 26 mpg on my stock 2014 ss if i behave. If i don't behave than that is a different story but that is on me. As long as you don't remove the displacement on demand or variable timing systems your SS can get decent mileage. However if you plan on making power, removing those systems is a bit of a nobrainer. Once you do that you can kiss any chances of decent mpg goodbye 🤣

@whitecrystal1 honest mistake, this post is two years old. At the time, I was still learning about these cars and thought the Holden Caprice and the SS/ Commodore had more in common. Then I learned more about the LS3 and had forgotten all about this post. You are correct; the 6.2L LS3 has no variable valve timing or displacement on demand. Of those two features, I know for sure the D.O.D. is on the 6.0L, which is typically in the caprice.

Konn... I'm an Aussie owner of the stock standard Commodore (model was called the "Evoke") wagon which you guys never received (sadly). The thing that gets me is that had GM US had the courage to confront your auto unions the other models in the Commodore line up might have made it to the States, namely the 3 litre, 3.6 litre models and the wagons and "utes" (both of which could be had in V8 versions as well). As many Americans discovered with the previous model Commodore (the "VE"...the SS is a "VF" later model) in G8 guise, the six cylinder car is a pretty good touring car package if you don't need or want the outright power of the V8 and need more gas economy. The VF Commodore is, without doubt, the best car Holden ever produced. Engineered locally from the ground up, the designers at Holden really went all out to make a world class car and they succeeded really well. Even in 3.6 V6 form it beats the pants off of some European and Japanese mid-size cars. The quality control at Holden's Elizabeth plant in South Australia was exceptional, especially for exports as the workers were quite proud their cars were going off to the US and other countries. It's a pity, however, that GM didn't allow them to retain their Holden badges but that's another story. I love my wagon. I can cruise all day on our freeway maximum limit without a hiccup almost in total silence. My car has never given me an ounce of trouble and the handling is superb. Our rural roads are worse than yours in some areas and the Holden just eats them up as if they were normal roads. Very little loss of traction and control. Also very little noise intrusion. I noticed that with your car you have taken the under-bonnet (that's we call the "hood") insulation off. I suppose you did that to get that rich "V8 burble" but, my friend, it is not a good idea during the winter months...especially in the US. The ECU relies on a certain external temperature in the engine bay and not having the insulation might muck up the readings. The ECU may compensate but why make it do the extra work? Also be careful with the hood because being aluminium they can be a bit of a challenge in body repair shops. I had a stone ping a nice dent in my hood and it took the PDR guy half an hour extra to the normal repair time as he had to work the metal carefully. As to the closure of Holden... I lay the blame at the feet of two people... the conservative Prime Minister here at the time who cut off government subsidies (which were tiny compared to how much GM is supplemented int he States) to the company and Mary Barra, the CEO of GM US who decided to drop all right hand drive production around the world. Holden fans will never forget or forgive her for that.
@marcboulware62424 жыл бұрын
Hello Mate. I would love to import an UTE into the USA but have not done so yet. Suffice to say GM missed an incredible opportunity to make an "El Camino 2020" out of the Holden Ute. What a major snafu. We could have 21st-Century El-Camino's rolling around the USA (and abroad) but instead... GM decides to pull the plug on Holden. What a bunch of Idiots at the healm.

You either forgot or didn't know that that same engine but in the corvette C6, when driven normal in the highway will get you 32-34mpg so there are V8's that get good gas mileage just depends on what vehicle. I know, I owned both a C5 and C6 which both got me over 30mpg.

Probably very few cars over 100k miles on them. Though, it comes with the same ls3 engine and manual or automatic transmissions from the 5th gen camaro. Very reliable and very capable. Only real issue we have had on ours was the engine scarring a piston wall after being boosted, cammed, adding methanol injection, and several track days. As long as you tune it right and use quality parts, there's not many more cars I can think of that are more reliable.

One interesting fact that has not been discussed here is the $$$$ value of these cars. The 2014 - 15 units with LOW miles are actually appreciating in value. Cars with under 15K on the clock. Check the usual internet sights for listings, or a wholesale conduit like Manheim auctions. The same scenario is true of the SS's predecessor, the Pontiac G8 GXP. The GXP's are bringing big dollars with low miles. And those cars are 12 yrs old. A super low mileage SS, in a few years will be an investment grade collector unit. Why? Because everything you can buy new, will have a deck of batteries in it for "power". There will no longer be a naturally aspirated American V8 "muscle car" being produced.

@@zbib43 I just found a 2014 Chevy SS with 26,300 miles for $42,900 at a dealer a couple miles away from me. Would you think it’s a good deal or not? Most of the SS around my area are 2016-2017 with above 40k miles.

What is it with you guys in the USA,? These cars are goinhg to be worth heaps in the future, best you keep them stock and look after them. I can't see any sense in modifying them just to please the sheep. Look after the SS.

Poor car, never marketed properly. I want one. My terminator needs more of these cars around to stomp, but I'm gonna get one. Camaros and ctsv chassis are boring. This car is truly unique and will be collected.

Lol I strongly disagree. I love chevys and aside from the blown engine do to HEAVY after market modifications, never have a problem with them. And I think you mean steering* there’s no delay that I notice
@marcboulware62424 жыл бұрын
It is not a Chevy. It's a Holden Commodore SS. Watch the Video Again if you did not watch it first time. There is a reason this Car caters to more than $49K.
@David-lr2vi4 жыл бұрын
GM shut down Holden because they were showing them up by making decent cars. Can’t have that. If people in the US and elsewhere actually knew about these cars when we were building them maybe the factory would have been saved and Holden could have been a niche sedan (4 door) producer for the world but Im sure GM made certain that this could never happen. They only sent the Holden Commodore to the US begrudgingly to keep their end of the bargain that it would be exported to the states.
