Agreed. Followed literally dozens of streamers play through FF14 and this channel still feels really unique. I think the fact that it's somewhat of a co-op playthrough really gives it a special feel, since it opens up much more discussion around topics than what you would see from a solo streamer channel. Also helps that they don't agree on everything and have different tastes, so topics can be examined from different angles.

Part of the Goblet hate comes from the intrinsic qualities of Goblet housing. The support pillars/ support beam/arches and the stone staircase/railings are EXTREMELY large and intrusive compared to the other zones, nearly 1.5x-3x larger. LB housing have slimmer pillars/beams and nice wooden stairs. Mist have wooden half stairs with no railing at all. Shirogane/ishgard have unique aesthtics but are not particularly intrusive. (You can see some of this in the video itself, when they look at the walls or up towards the ceiling.) The goblet meanwhile has large blocky staircases with railing bits the size of small tables that are even larger than some actual tables, support pillar bases which stick out around 2 grid squares and are slightly too wide to hide behind partitions cleanly, and reverse m shaped support beams that are taller than lalafel's at some places. This makes it hard to build around those pillars, and harder to "hide" those pillars behind your own wall set up in terms of space usage. The support arches also make it harder to build vertically as "reasonable" floor expansions (around 60-70% of the way up) will cause taller races to get stuck on the support beams that stick out.

FYI We don't know if Island Sanctuaries is going to come with housing or not, and as Yoshi-P went completely dark on that content, it would really be best NOT to hype it up as personal housing. I've rarely seen Yoshi-P do that, and that's usually because he doesn't want the playerbase to hype something up and expect X when he's really trying to deliver Y.

Best suggestion I have is to use the Housing Preview option in the housing Menu once you get your first house. It lets you see each possible Housing item and place it around the space to see if you would like how it went well together. I used that and made a google spreadsheet to identify what (and how many) of each item I wanted and then make a plan to acquire said item. It's also possible for you to go grab an Apartment, you can have one as well as a house. You can use the apartment to start to store housing materials you like, to test out the Housing Item Preview to start working on collecting your items and even get practice is designing the space!

Hi from Catte Cottage! Our loft setup required A LOT of our item space, so we don't have room for interior holiday decorating, really, because we are at cap. What we DO have is space outdoors. When the holidays come we switch in a holiday decoration instead of one of our Wisteria trees - a tree for Starlight, pumpkins for All Saint's Wake, a mask display for Moonfire Faire. Sometimes we switch out the food on the dining table for something season appropriate (We have watermelon right now, for example), we can change the flowers in the vases without worrying about item space, and sometimes we'll do a swap of a minor accent item - provided we don't have to float it. AND, the best way to change the "feel" of a place for a holiday if you don't have the space is to change the music on the Orchestrion playlist. We have ours currently running with a lot of the calm, chill themes from around the world, lending to the "cozy" feel, and I threw in some ones that sounded more summery, too.

I think part of the reason the Goblet gets shade is because it used to literally look worse. They've updated it visually a few times, including adding / expanding that oasis in the center. I think some of the stigma stuck around even though it's quite nice now. Kind of like how Dragoon is permanently the Floor Tank even though it's infinitely better than it was during ARR when it truly earned that title. People meme on it, then new players without context spread the memes, and eventually you're memeing about something that was largely fixed or improved years ago

Swapping out holiday items is very easy. Each house has a storage area as well, it's like putting something on a retainer. It's there but not placed or visible. Smalls have a 200 item limit to storage. You can store away the previous holiday items there and pull the new ones out of the housing storage.

I got my personal small housing in the latest housing update in the Ishgard area. I’ve got inside and outside at max items but I don’t think what I have is what will stay forever. And I like the idea of your first time with a housing just going at it myself to see what I come up with creatively even if it’s not the best. In the future I’ll steal more idea and designs to make it a little more aesthetically cohesive and pleasing. For now it’s the ramshackled mess of what I earned in game and what I could afford on the market.

On the topic of holiday decorations: Yeah, you basically just leave a few slots open (I usually go with 10-15 in Medium houses) and keep decorations for all seasons in the storage so you can put them up whenever it is appropriate 😊 It's nice to also have a set of "neutral" ones for the same spaces for some longer periods where no holidays happen (early summer is quite barren, in that regard). I have one entire house's storage (300 slots) just dedicated to all the seasonal decorations I collected over the years, haha. Seasonal yards are a bit harder, tbh it's easier to just rebuild them entirely whenever the season changes, since the very low furniture limit makes it hard to just keep slots open for seasonal stuff. Great video! Housing is definitely end-endgame and one of my favourite things to mess with in XIV :D I've seen pictures on tumblr of someone building a recording booth and it looked insanely realistic, but sadly can't find it with a quick google search. But know that yes, it's totally viable :D

My personal tip for decorating is to choose 1-2 centerpieces depending on the room size and then build around them to accentuate them. I didn't get one in the latest lottery and it's not looking good for the next round. All the personals are sold. So If they do make the new North America Data Centers, I might have to move. Might the only way to get one.. . Also, speaking of customization. . . I have an Eastern style tea house. With low tables, and cushions to sit on. I feel like they need to vastly increase the available housing disctricts by the next expansion release. The current amount (without Ishgard) was created for the ARR/HW era population, and the game is vastly more popular nowadays. Also limiting districts to FC only was a giant mistake.
@nspaulding072 жыл бұрын
I agree. To me, it seemes the best middle ground would be to have something like wards 1-6 be FC-only, wards 21-26 be individual-only, and the rest be a free-for-all. That way, as the ratio between FC and individual demand fluctuates, the system naturally fills out that demand.

Anyways for my fc, we made it as a family (parents, brothers rl family) and after my dad passed i made him into a retainer and got him set up outside the fc house in front of a brick bbq so hes always there with us. Housing comes with a store room that is equal to the amount of items you can place, this is great for storing and placing those event items for easter, halloween, summer and christmas. Almost all ingame seasonal events will have a decoration or food item you can place in the house, for example the jackolantern with the candy was from a previous halloween even aswell as a witch statue with a flying bat, they can be bought on the mog shop now i think? During events, the wards will have small event touches where christmas will have it snowing, summer (moonfire) and annaversary will have fireworks of a night time and lastly the marketboards will have decorations on and around them like paw prints and pumpkins for halloween.

Before the lottery, several years ago, there was a chocobo house in front of my mid size in Goblet. A few days after they released Shirogane, the house was suddenly gone - I assume they snagged an upgrade in another ward. I paid a fairly new FC member the 4 million gil to get that plot under the condition that under no circumstances whatsoever could they put a chocobo house there. To this day they've kept it 100% chocobo free. On the other hand, some other FC members have gleefully turned their house into a Paissa house. Just... ugh. Our FC has one of the original mansions in the original wards, back when we all had to scrimp together to save up the forty million. We made the decision to never leave because it was our first real team building exercise. As for advice, the HGXIV folks are amazing - Ashen Bride, Synt, and a few other decorators have well earned reputations as glitch masters. The common pitfall is that many items are sold from in game venders, so check before you buy off the market board!

As a proud goblet owner I support the goblet gushing. The most I do for ingame holidays in Starlight. I have a few items from way back when they first put in the housing wards with the Starlight trees you could put out in the yard that required players to go get letters from the tress. This was also a daily repeatable so players were running around the housing wards getting different trees and players could put out different color tress for the quest. I'll always pull stuff into storage or use the last few slots I have for the starlight decoration.

Hearing you two talk about something like housing is actaully really fun. Like, it's one of the more mundane features of the game, yet it offers so much to players (even if the UI for decorating is somewhat frustrating). I look forward to island sanctuaries coming out and hearing people have similar conversations (assuming the features are similar, of course). I've actually been debating getting a house. I have an apartment in the Lavender Beds, but I do like Shirogane. It's just that Shirogane seems to be the most popular area, so I doubt I'd actually find a place for myself. Plus, if I did get one, I don't even know if I'd ever get around to decorating it. Maybe visiting my FC house is all the housing I really need. I dunno, maybe I'll change my mind. Although, I did have fun turning my apartment into basically a disaster area. I was going for that "I'm never home, so just toss stuff whereever, change clothes, and head out again," kind of look. It's a beautiful mess.

Final fantasy does a good job of showing how RP is interesting to non-RP players like myself because even just playing the MSQ, it's easy to get to point of 'wait, I don't want to look like *that* in the upcoming scene! Hmmm, what do I have to look how I want?" Add in that the story stops at points where 'OK, threat is dealt with for now, go take a break", it makes sense to not always be a godslaying warrior and just be relaxed. Housing helps fill out that 'off the clock" feeling in FFXIV and want to have a place that's not about fighting but instead just relaxing and hanging out. In a way, FFXIV started out as drawing from the WoW template but has also moved into some Second Life territory as well. You feel free to have your character stop being battle ready and kinda have a life outside of fighting. It's something that's not present in WoW (not as a WoW bad thing, wow just lives for the world of conflict while FFXIV does not) which makes RP feel like a very dedicated and involved thing because it's not a 'natural' part of the experience because in WoW, you're always going to the next fight and never standing around in a cutscene talking. Coming from WoW, it's an adjustment, but it's a nice one that fits with a more story focused world; having a way to release tension so when the tense moments happen, they stand out more.

My personal gripe with the housing system is not being able to place stuff naturally on lofts. From what I researched and practiced, you gotta do a glitch and it's time consuming AF. There's a mod to fix this but honestly it should be in the game already.

Yeah they should really consider just making every item function like a tabletop object and be done with it.

I've lost 3 houses to inactivity. And now there's almost no chance I'll get one. Regret losing the Shirogane small I had. It was right on the beach day 1 beat three people to get it by maybe a second.

Oh no I noticed the cursor on Kyle's face now I can't unsee it! I'm just glad it wasn't a dead pixel like I thought it was at first.

I thought it was something on my screen so I ended up cleaning my screen and then I noticed when they did the split screen, it showed up in the same place on Kyle's half and I calmed down.

The bar thing is absolutely sending me because of how true it is! Even in my FC’s very ‘Official Proper Guild’ FC House, we *had* to put in a basement bar 😅

The club/cafe scene is pretty big. Most clubs have live djs on twitch, and cafes can have events - went to one a couple weeks ago that had a 'slam poetry' contest. Went to a theater once when the 'live in game band' Rosa played. Fun stuff.

I've not got a house, and I'm not likely going to get one on my server (Ragnarok), but I do have an appartment. I've decorated it in the style I've called 'What my retainers brought home for me' 😁. But they were kind enough to get me a comfy chair and an orchestrion so I can listen to some music. The only thing I miss is the full gardening experience. I can grow things, but not cross bred them

Some of the items for a tiki bar will not be hard to come by. I can think of several items that could work and I'm pretty sure a bamboo thing exists that is also seating.

I tried to get a house in Kugane but it’s so popular… tried in Lavender Beds too on another world but lost both 😭 Lottery isn’t perfect, but it allows me who can’t be online for more than two hours a day at best to try for one albeit with a remote chance…

I have never seen that many people running around the housing district before you may see one person running around the housing district at the same time you are, but that is extremely rare. I have never seen where there are a ton of people running around and looking at houses and stuff never seen it. Lol

I used to have a small house during the Stormblood expansion. I loaded it up with the coolest furniture and stuff that I could afford at the time. I tend to take multi month breaks from any MMO I play, so I ended up losing the house because you don’t get to keep it forever if your subscription lapses more than 2 months (I think, feel free to correct me). They sent an email warning me that I would lose the house if I didn’t resub, which is fair, but I didn’t feel like paying the money at the time because I didn’t have anything I wanted to do in game for a while. I knowingly gave up the house, but I didn’t realize that they would only hold my furnishings for a month and then delete them. I thought I would be able to retrieve all my stuff when I finally logged back in months later, but I was unpleasantly surprised to find all that money I spent flushed down the toilet (which was my fault for not paying attention to the rules). That’s my only real gripe with housing (aside from the scarcity), is that you can lose it all (and the money you spent on the lot and furnishings, etc) if you take a multi month break.
@tjl94582 жыл бұрын
It's a 45 day timer, not 2 months. If you lose your house due to the timer, all your stuff goes to a Salvager and a second timer starts. I don't remember what the timer is after that, if it's 30 or 90 days but once that timer is up, you lose your stuff.
@vermillionwing2 жыл бұрын
It's not if you don't subscribe, but if you don't "enter" the house itself. You can lose your house even if you subscribe and play but forget to enter your house for that time period.
@Ryotsu21122 жыл бұрын
@@vermillionwing @TJL That's right, thanks for the info. I had forgotten. I also remember that even if you give house access to someone else, they can't enter for you to get around the timer.

One of the nice things about housing is that there's almost always something new to mess with every single patch. Most other styles of play in FFXIV you tend to get stuff then the next patch is for someone else. With housing items, they just sort of trickle out a few with every patch or major event.
@Keldiur2 жыл бұрын
Its probably because most of the major art assets are done probably at the launch of the expansion. FF is probably the king of repurposing their assets for the x.1 to x.5 patches. Whatever is new was probably done months in advance. So instead of firing their art department for a year, they just make seasonal/housing knick knacks and store items (unfortunately).

FFXIV players are so nice. Coming from WoW I still feel awkward chatting and interacting with others. I'm still on the free trail so I can't whisper. I feel so bad when someone whispers me and I can't respond. I really want to be polite too. Yesterday someone whispert me if I had enough rep to buy something at a vendor. I tried to at least answer in open chat. I guess the person understood that I am new and on free trail. they responded sooooo nice. I just wish I could have talked more. When you are limitted to open chat it's impossible (at least for me) to have a conversation with someone in a big city because everyone is chatting and I can't follow my conversation... it's also difficult when the other person want's to do something and is running around. I'm just not able to follow whom I am talking to. It's all so overwhelming :-( I know I could easily solve this by buying the full game version but i'am not ready to commit yet. I'm still too burned from WoW.

My advice: make sure you have about 50% (if not just plain double) extra funds when bidding, because you will spend *at least* that much buying/crafting furniture. Especially if you're like me and didn't really have an idea of what kind of home you wanted to make. I only had enough to buy my home, and it's been pretty sparse for about a year now because I haven't made enough money to furnish it yet. Also make sure you keep room for some chocobo stables.

A lot of unique item placement is done through glitching which I hear is a very lengthy process to do. I also here they maybe an add on that makes it much easier to do. But add-ons are of course TOS breaking so be cautious.

there are players whose job is house decorators. it can cost millions of Gil to hire one. But these are players who have learned all the tricks of the trades, glitching, and such. They are like the raid leaders of housing.

I don't need a house, my apartment in Ishgard is enough. I like the Gothic architecture and snowy climate. My character has snow in her name after all. And my apartment is definitely showing off "my stuff"

Yea housing is ridiculous. I got lucky and won a medium house in Ishguard but I really don’t know what I want to do with the interior… at all. It’s a little overwhelming having so much customization. I did get the garden going though 👌
