I think it's not remembered by many anymore and most people never really knew how popular Martin and Lewis really were. This film footage proves it. They were superstars.

Joshua Carter Directly from Jerry Lewis' personal archive- when we made his 1996 Biography™ for A&E. Also- Jerry's lifelong friend Janet Leigh was like an aunt to me- my grandfather, actor/director Abner Biberman, was Tony Curtis' first drama coach. So Jerry simply handed me the keys to his vault and said, "Just make me look good, kid." We also produced Janet's biography for Lifetime TV that same year. Janet Leigh... a life in Hollywood Thanks for tuning in. Luke Sacher Praeses & Soapbox Productions Inc.

Once again in these videos, it's Dean who appears more emotional than Jerry who stays in character while Dean just looks amazed. Everyone says Dean was the cool one--well not here! Love it!
@lindashelley36356 жыл бұрын
Maureen Kolkey Although Dean always tried to appear nonchalant and easygoing, it always seemed to me that inside he felt things very deeply. It’s just that he was brought up in a time when boys were taught not to show their feelings, that it was somehow ‘cissy’ to be sentimental and that they should be tough (‘big boys don’t cry’). But you only have to look at pictures of him playing with his kids (there is one in particular showing him putting bootees on one of his babies, where he is looking at her with such love and tenderness that it’s enough to melt the stoniest of hearts) to see that he really was a soft-hearted guy. Plus there are many stories of his kind heartedness. And when you remember how he had been bullied at school, I think that Dean, like many men of his generation, sometimes felt a deep conflict between what he really felt and how he thought he should act as a ‘real man’, which in his case he usually covered up with his jokey personality.

Could you imagine having 100s of people screaming like this to the point where you have to appear in a window??! I’m with Dean, I would be amazed. This is unbelievable today....
@arnefogel325612 жыл бұрын
After years of seeing this in excerpts, it's wonderful to see the entire footage... Thank you so much! By the way, it's actually on 44th street, not 43rd. I found the window and the scene as it looks today, and they are just above the current Starlite Deli, in the Paramount building.
@soapbxprod11 жыл бұрын
Totally. They were the first TV stars with the Colgate Comedy Hour shows- that's what really made them so popular. They'd announce their premieres for their movies on the shows- NBC, shot at 30 Rockefeller Center- and thousands of kids would show up in front of the Paramount five blocks away in Times Square and go ape! :)

@soapbxprod Have you seen Jerry Lewis in Cinderfella? It's one of the sweetest movie I ever watched.
@donaldperez79812 жыл бұрын
Wow! I always remembered seeing this mania/scene in books and in encyclopedias growing up. I'm a little confused; I know it was a different time, but it seems at the time, as if they were larger than life and much more popular than the Beatles compared to when Beatle Mania came along; though Dean Martin bumped the Beatles "It's a hard to stay his night" off the charts and went to 1st. Place in 1964 with his hit song "Everybody loves somebody sometimes". I'm not sure? But I think it was Jerry Lewis that had these clips/film/videos that includes TCR with digital index numbers. I say this because I see many of his personal film/videos of Dean and him with the TCR digital indexing. He was a genius. He wanted to preserve movie history for future generations and did it well.He also thought of having his movies with Dean shot in vivid Technicolor for some of his movies such as "Artists and Models" because he was saying back in the day, these older films are fading in color; to whereas the vivid Technicolor films that he and Dean were in are still as vivid in color as the day they were filmed.🎥 📽️
