Would you recommend using either Shea OR cocoa as I've been practicing with both together and the bars are a bit soft for me, even after curing. I assumed both would give a more luxurious bar but now I'm thinking maybe it should be an either or situation in my base recipe. Any thoughts gratefully received. Great video. Thank you
@SoapSchoolUK2 жыл бұрын
I use both but it depend on the whole recipe
@makeit26492 жыл бұрын
Shea and cocoa butter actually make for harder soap bars, not softer. So it is something else in your recipe that is making your soap soft. Remember that lye changes every oil and butter, so they are not the same in soap as they are before coming in contact with the lye.

You could use Ultramarine purple or violet?
@makeit26492 жыл бұрын
Alkanet infused in oil makes a natural purple color.
@SoapSchoolUK2 жыл бұрын
@@makeit2649 Yes I use alkanet but it's not the prettiest purple in the world and results can vary depending on the batch, how finely chopped and the length of infusion, but it's certainly a good option

There isn't a set temperature and it would depend on the amount of butters etc in the recipe. Too low and they can begin to reset. Generally around 100F

Can i use clear glycerine soap as a base? Is it the same as lye solution?
@SoapSchoolUK11 ай бұрын
No soap made from scratch uses lye to convert the oils and butters into soap. A glycerine soap base is a premade base and you cannot generally create the same looks and effects ut it is still a great product

For scent, I read adding cornstarch to fragrant oils or kaolin clay. Fragrance grabs onto the powder/ clay and makes a scent last longer. You can look on the internet about how much

@MM-zs7ir4 ай бұрын
@SoapSchoolUK I read up on fragrance. Adding cornstarch or a kaolin clay to essential oil will help scent grab and last longer. I can't remember the amount though. It isn't alot, otherwise, your soap won't lather as much and may dry your skin. I've tried pink clay in my rose scented essential oil. Not only is the scent amazing, it also gave the soap a beautiful nude pink color. Went well with the dried rose petals I added to the top.

Hi can you say why you use titanium dioxide in the recipe please...I have noticed this chemical is being increasingly used in NATURAL cosmetics but I understood it to be a carcinogen...what would the soap be like if titanium dioxide wasn’t used please?
@SoapSchoolUK2 жыл бұрын
Titanium dioxide is a white pigment. Without it the main body of the soap would be beige. It is certified as safe for skin use in most countries and in everything from cosmetics, food, drugs, toothpaste etc
@mary-ruthflores41072 жыл бұрын
From what I have read TD is one of the more benign pigments, my Dermatologist is a big fan, I use it for a sunscreen and have for most of my life. And it is a natural pigment without chemicals

Titanium dioxyde is in fact extremely dangerous for health. Take it from a med student who also has experienced first hand health issues experiences from titanium dioxyde : allergies, throat burning, lip swelling etc. And no, I'm not allergic to titanium dioxyde. It's just how the human body responds to such threat. Look it up. Please don't use this chemical.

@ SoapSchoolUk It's so crazy to me that people care about the color of the soap ! Why does it matter if it's beige ??? Is it for ✨ "The Aesthetic" ✨? That's so stupid. Let the soap be beige ! At least it's natural and organic !

I LOVVVVE Lavender but dang I hate how it looks like mouse poo when I put it on top of my soaps. LOL!!! Gorgeous soap! Purple is one of my most favorite colors. I'm still pretty new to soap making and have new 1.3 lb molds so I can start testing soaps that have things like goat's milk and/or honey in them. Much better than ruining an entire 6lb batch, right? LOL!
