What a wonderful video 💕 Super cute mold. I love your idea of filling in the little heart. I also appreciate your humbleness throughout. My greatest soap disaster was an awful fragrance oil that misbehaved on every level but the worst part was the separation. It refused to combine with the soap batter. It was terrible, lol.

Hi, I'm sort of new to soap making and I tried your recipe. It looks like the best soap I've made from scratch ever! I have a question, though. I used different kinds of molds for this. For the large mold, I was able to pull it out the next day. For some smaller individual molds, It got smooshed as I was taking those out. The block of soap is still quite soft - I can press my finger through it. But is this normal? Why is it so soft when I had 30% coconut oil? I thought it should be a bit more harder. Until how long after does it become hard enough that I grab is and press it and not make a dent? (press it like playing the piano, I would say?) Also, would leaving it for 6weeks be enough for the pH level to go down closer to neutral?

When testing a new fragrance you could always put some batter in a paper cup and drop a few drops into the small cup and see if the fragrance will seize or not. This way you don't loose the whole batch. That happen to me with a cherry blossom so when ever I use a floral that's how I test it.
@SoapSchoolUK
@SoapSchoolUK 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Barbara, that's a great tip and I actually do use pepper cups or ice cream tubs to do this in batches to test several at one but sometimes I am impatient and just grab one...

I've had so many "disasters" that it's hard to pick one to tell about, so my philosophy has become "It's perfectly imperfect!" Frankincense tends to seize for sure! I made a pink granite soap out of the crumbly mess I ended up with most recently, though.😁 I wish I could put a picture up... it turned out really great!

Hi! I have a question. In the description it says that the total batch weight is 1000 grams, but counting all the ingredients it seems that it’s 1462 grams? Is that correct?
@SoapSchoolUK
@SoapSchoolUK 9 ай бұрын
That is correct Linda, most soap recipes are based on the amount of oils used so in this case 1000g but the total recipe would include all the other elements such as lye and water etc. The water does not even remain in the finished product but evaporates which changes the amounts again later.

Thanks for the nice video. Some people use a large proportion of olive oil and the rest coconut oil to harden quickly. Others use the same percentage of olive oil, but a little palm oil, and the rest is coconut, but they consider it not good for the presence of palms. In your opinion, which is better?thank you

I made a Cinnabon cinnamon soap last week, cold process. Everything was going smooth, my colors were spot on, no acceleration from my fragrance oil. I went to put it in the loaf mold and next thing I knew, instant excelleration in one of my 3 colors. I jammed it in, piled the rest on top, and next thing I knew, my soap was rising up out of the mold like the undead or elephants toothpaste. I panicked and jammed as much as I could back in, threw my last color on top, sat it aside to cure, and prayed for a miracle because I was pretty certain it would be full of holes. I cut into it a day or two later and what do you know, no holes. My issue now, a week later, is that it has a very odd scent and doesn't smell anything like the Cinnabon cinnamon roll it smelled like in the fragrance oil bottle. 😅 The other two smells I made, peanut butter cookie and cotton candy, came out perfect and I did them all the same way. It was strange, but I just keep soaping onward. 🤣

no its just to make the colour more vibrant, we call it c poping its to make it gel faze, you can also just wrap it up like you would a baby with a towel under and a piece of cardboard over the soap with a heavy towel over that. it also has a tendancy to cause glycerin rivers which makes the soap look more vintage.

If using any scent in a recipe for a skin product, it's best to check w/ the provider if they have a "best use" chart for that particular scent. Or even if it's appropriate for soap, & cold process specifically. Very early in I learned the hard way NOT to fly by the seat of my pants. It can be costly, & sometimes downright dangerous. Costly bcs you waste not just your fragrance oil or essential oil, but your soap batter, possibly your "cooking utensils", &/or your dwelling if your fragrance/eo catches fire as you're adding it as your mix is too hot. Believe me it's happened. It's also happened that ppl have gotten hurt from adding them at too high temp, not knowing it was a danger. One more thing? Organic colors like turmeric & annatto, unless you've infused them into the oils over a few weeks, or a cpl of months, will not stay. They'll fade to a VERY light creamy white over a few months as the soap cures. However, adding them just as you are whipping up the recipe will add a slight amount of exfoliation, but the flecks of the powder WILL discover over time. Just letting you know bcs I've been doing organic only colors & scents since I began soaping in 2014. ❤

@iluminameluna
@iluminameluna 9 ай бұрын
Only when you're cooking w/ it. If you infuse the oil you intend to use for soap, it doesn't stain anything. I've been using turmeric, annatto, smoked paprika, even beets to try to stain soap, w/ varying degrees of success (beets don't work to get red or even pink soap). I've been soaping for almost 10 yrs now (May will be my official anniversary!). I've made several thousand batches of soap, so I think I've made enough mistakes to know what to expect from my spices. 🤣😂😭💜
