This is such an accurate depiction of British “lad” culture. I loved the way “it’s a bit gay” got the American audience cringing but it’s so accurate to the kind of thing this kind of guy would say. Idris was amazing in this sketch and honestly I feel like this was the best sketch of the night!

Why is that though? I remember speaking to a Brit once who said something similar: footballers are dumb. Is it because it's the sport most lower-income kids get into? Do you not need to graduate from college the way American athletes do when they join professional leagues (barring exceptions like Kobe)?

Let's forget the several incorrect terminologies and appreciate that an American comedy sketch on soccer was not inherantly based on trashing the game itself. As an American soccer fan, I am proud with how the game has grown in this country. We've come a long way from the Simpsons' "Open wide for some soccer" bit.

The Brits never actually used that term for Football. It was the Americans who ended up officially naming football as soccer. So it's wrong to call it soccer. At least if you wanna respect the game
