I am really happy that there are bands like Soccer Mommy. The timeless realism is grounding and Sophie's honesty about herself is a good sign in our society. I was reading the comments and it is so great that we can open up about depression. It still has a stigma attached to it. You would think that losses like Robin WIlliams and Anthony Bourdain would have changed people's minds. The fact is that if you have never suffered from clinical depression, you cannot grasp its reality. Like riding a Harley Davidson, if you have to ask, you would never understand. Sophie is honest and the context of her lyrics can be rough. "Fire in the Driveway" is an example of opening up a conflict and coming to the root-cause in almost brutal fashion - with herself only "I can't bear to say it to your face." There is a sadness in that song that I feel when I listen to it, but it is an honest reflection of her feelings. That makes it OK.

I wanna be calm like the soft Summer rain on your back Like the fall of your shoulders But everything just brings me back down To the cold hard ground And it keeps getting colder It's a feeling that boils in my brain I would dial back the flame But I'm not sure I'm able I'm wobbling out on the wire And the lights could go out With the break of a cable Things feel that low sometimes Even when everything is fine Hey I've been falling apart these days Split open watching my heart go round and around Round and around Circle the drain I'm going down I'm trying to seem strong for my love For my family and friends But I'm so tired of faking 'Cause I'm chained to my bed when they're gone Watching tv alone Until my body starts aching And I think there's a mold in my brain Spreading down all the way Through my heart and my body 'Cause I cling to the dark of my room And the days thin me out Or just burn me straight through Things feel that low sometimes Even when everything is fine Hey I've been falling apart these days Split open watching my heart go round and around Round and around Circle the drain I'm going down Things feel that low sometimes Even when everything is fine Hey I've been falling apart these days Split open watching my heart go round and around Round and around Circle the drain I'm going down Round and around Round and around Circle the drain I'm going down

my sister died in 2016 due to liver cancer and that day was really sunny, a complete contrast to what everyone felt when she passed away. i saw this album 4 years ago but never really cared about it. 2024 and this appeared in my recommendations. i wish i gave it a try when it came out. the entire record screams 90s rock, which is my late sister’s fave genre of music. we could’ve listened to soccer mommy together, and she would’ve loved sophie

"High" by Feeder has an incredibly similar chord progression, melody, and tempo. Both really catchy, great songs but I'd be surprised if this wasn't at least partially inspired by that.

A gift from the gods for the year 2021! they felt sorry for us for seeing good music being buried little by little and gave us the grace to be able to contemplate Sophie Allison's sensitivity and creativity with her precious music and her beautiful voice and all her sadness ... I love you Sophie! Soccer Mommy is the best thing I've heard in recent years ... After Belle and Sebastian and Placebo nothing else caught my attention until now ...
