What do you think? Can we learn only through direct experience, or also from studying others? To prove that children can learn by mere observation, american-canadian psychologist Albert Bandura came up with the Bobo Doll Experiments - a set of controversial studies, which involved preschool children, adult models and a stand-up punch doll. What did he find out?

CLASSROOM EXERCISE
Experiment! Choose two or more activities that your class will be doing together (best would be simple physical actions like summersaults or yoga poses). For each activity select a different style of demonstration (one demonstrate yourself, one let a student demonstrate, and one will only be described to the students). Make sure everyone executes each pose or activity once. Which learning style do your students prefer? Could they do it better? Encourage each of your students to demonstrate their own activity or pose and explain it in a way they think their classmates will get it. Vary the level of detail of explanation for more interesting results!

Remember when that mom was feeding her kid and he wouldn’t eat. so she tried to feed a teddy bear and the teddy wouldn’t eat so she punched the teddy bear. She tried to feed him again and then the baby ate the food.

As a parent, I try very hard to watch my own behaviour and words that I use especially when I am in front of the kids. Sometimes fatigue and stress will get the better of me. Every time I see these clips about how much children's behaviour is influenced by their surrounding, I am reminded that I need to do better.

@Train of Taught no. It's the opposite. Bullies fear the strong, and those who feel indifferent to bullying. The Bully must lose interest in you. If u behave weak, the Bully will be determined to bully you more. At the same time, don't challenge the bully to a fight if u can't beat him. Just look in the eyes of the bully, as if they are some vermin.
@april1st183
@april1st183 Жыл бұрын
@Train of Taught No it's not the same because the bobo doll doesn't hit you back. Go punch a punching bag. Fun and easy, right? You can do this all day, easy, no worries, no second thoughts. Now go punch a fighter. The weak kids are punching bags and the strong kids are fighters. Even if you beat the fighter, you're going to walk (limp) away with two black eyes and think very hard and carefully before you go punch that fighter again. You might even get beat by the fighter and then take out your frustration on the punching bag aka the weak kid. So please, be a fighter not a punching bag. Even if you lose, you must stand up for yourself. Don't be a Bobo doll.

I find the use of terminology a bit unclear. The question at the beginning and the supporting visuals imply that the question is if we can learn a skill through observation. But the experiments seemed like they were less about learning how to punch, but rather if they would copy the adult's behavior. The kids didn't "learn" how to punch the doll, they learned/adopted the behavior.

The other day, I saw two women at a supermarket, accompanied by a young boy. The little boy was frustrated and hitting one of the women. She threatened spanking him if he didn't behave. I wonder WHERE the little boy learned that he could express his frustration by hitting others when they didn't behave the way he wanted. Truly a mystery for the ages, I think.

I also disagree, that this is a study on aggression. Bobo Doll is after all a toy, like a ball, you kick that too, regardless if you aggressive or not. You can not really tell, whether the children hitting the Bobo Doll are doing it out of hidden rage or joy. Children learn and adapt. In conclusion this episode does not make me hold Albert Bandura in awe. After all, he was bored, when attend psychology class, maybe he could use a Bobo Doll to pass time.

So, those children who went through those was taken advantage of, right? Wer they ever able to unlearn what they learned. Marred forever? This is also abuse. With the kind of shows today, Television and cartoons is such a nuisance to their mental emotional and brain development. (my opinion). Children are your responsibility, parents. Unnecessary to watch or learn about Bandura - its sufficient to watch nature where adult animals teach their offspring by showing how to do something right. And the children then will repeat it and understand - if i do it i will live well, have food and be safe. Often the solution is about going out into the world and start observing without going too much into school and book teachings. And just as some critics - saying "The Man do it" or the "Female Actor do it" is discriminating and distorting peoples perception - I had to ask myself "WTF are they saying - that man are aggressive and women just act to be aggressive?" Who the actual fuck made this audio track. Its man and woman. Done.
