One of my friends got a runt of the litter turned out to be the biggest out of the litter and is a qualified security dog. I work my bitches, naturally they would be smaller than a dog anyway but hes huge compared to mine.

True, they sometimes don't grow up cause they don't get the proper nutrients because their siblings bully them lol. Proper care, exercise, and quality food when they are separated from the litter do wonder.

I usually dont like people petting my dog as she is shy, but she will always tolerate it and wont make a sound or run away from the person With other dogs she likes to play but can also get a bit shy, but she can still be sitting next to strange dog and they could be touching or another dog could lunge at her and she wont move an inch and she will be focused on me the entire time you need to know your dog, not all dogs are friendly and you cant change that every dog has their own boundaries

Very helpful, my Cane Corso puppy is stopping, and thrashing at end of leash a decent amount (with some biting leash involved as well) I don't want to force him to come while thrashing around, and make bad association with leash. But i suppose its best for him to just commit forward to pressure and praise.

I did have a question regarding getting a puppy out to socialize before he has all his shots at 16 weeks and the dangers of him becoming sick, catching parvo, etc. Is this something you worry about or do you socialize him and not worry about it?

Sometimes the runt isn’t a runt it’s actually a pup that was conceived later then the rest so even if they’re all born on the same day it can actually turn out to be a few days younger then the rest which is why they’re smaller because they’re at a different life stage

I feel I 'over' socialised my first Rottie. She was super-friendly to everyone, but to the point where it was a problem. She wouldn't want to listen to my or my wife if there were new people around - just wanted to be best friends with anyone & everyone. I wouldn't want a working dog that sees strangers & other doges as negative automatically, but having them at neutral is most definitely the best disposition to work with. That way, they are neither intimidated or excited by others - they are just part of the background which I think is ideal.

She's a little spitfire, lol. I think she would be great for breeding. Some people really would like a smaller Shepherd. A small dog with big (as in confidence) attitude, is a beautiful thing. Smart girls rock!!! I should know, I'm only 4ft.10 and u should see me handle a King German Shepherd!!! I have a 15 week old working line GSD myself right now, keep the pup focused & engaged with you. When you see someone approaching just tell them to ignore the pup he is in training and change direction and keep working the pup.

I have the same as your tiny black puppy here in the UK. Police bred GSD sold as pet because she was too small. But brave and bolshy, hard as nails. Joe Public caused so much hassle. The WHOLE of the UK is a Dog Park. They all think shouting "its OK he's friendly" means they have permission to be dragged up to me. They ignore my, trying NOT to raise my voice or loose my cool, clear requests to keep away. My dog, now 20 months old is unpredictably reactive, looks, to them, aggressive, and is a dog bully. I've now paired the e-collar with leash work, and it appears to be working, but its hard because to blow up is really self rewarding for her, and I'm a boring old lady!

So, especially when they are young is it good practice to monitor praise and affection and only use it when they are doing an activity or behavior your want to encourage? My puppy is eight weeks old and I was to hold him and pet him but I am seeing the importance of praise and boundaries. I want to play with him as well. Should I wait to initiate play until he is exhibiting a wanted behavior?

Ironically it is Veterinarians that tell people to bring their dog's to dog parks for socializing....um no...I do not take much advice from them lol.

Vet also told me to neuter my male at 6 months old and a raw diet is unhealthy compared to kibble. Vets are useless for the most part

@@spots8060 yikes! Yeah, my vet (that I am no longer going to be using), was degrading me for using a prong collar. Veterinarians need to keep their personal opinions to themselves. 🤷‍♀️

I didn't start taking my last dog out on walks till he was 12 weeks I didn't get him till he was 12 weeks, he had been bred on a farm and I bought him at the feed store. He had seen people and chickens and ponies etc from his kennel there but not interacted, he had his final shot and we just went out walking and doing stuff and he had no problems. He is 6 years old now with better dog manners than a lot of dogs around each other all the time.

Damn! I do not want strangers to put my puppy so that she will not get distracted in public in the future but also I feel really bad telling everyone that they aren't allowed to pet my dog. What excuses can i use? My only thought was to get her a training vest so that I can use the 'she's in training" excuse. The front of a grocery store is a great idea except for the fact that I would have to turn down 100 people's request to pet my dog lol. This video is gold!

Here in the US, we have been blessed (no, cursed) with a new strain of Parvo which is evidently resistant to vaccination. I don't know what the status of this in Canada, but in California, USA, there's a big ol problem going around. I started socializing my Doberman puppy when he was 8 weeks. I put him in shopping carts and never let him walk around in public places until he was fully vax'd. So guess what, even AFTER he had his full series of shots, he still came down with a mild case of Parvo. Thank God we caught it early and he's fine now, but taking them out so young is definitely risky.

Its called 'submissive urination; Tell people to totally ignore her .....dont even look at her.. until she calms down,Giving her attention rewards that behaviour.She'll outgrow it.. She's just insecure..She needs leadership,that she knows you're in charge, and she'll gain confidence.

Awesome video but how do you go with vaccinations and getting the pups out in public? I had a dog who as a puppy was very brave and wasn’t scared of anything, but I was told I couldn’t take her outside unless she was vaccinated so she stayed inside for weeks before I could take her in public. Then when I could take her into public she was scared of just about everything

You have to balance it out. Take the pup outside in areas you know don’t have many dogs going through and do socializing there.

About the puppy being neutral towards people and dogs, do you think they can be social during the appropriate time and neutral at the appropriate time with consistent training? I want my dog to focus on me but I want to take him to the dog park as well for exercise and i guess just for the fun of watching dogs play with each other.

I don’t agree on everything everybody has their own way I say for the first week the dogs will get used to me with treats second week he’ll get used to the leash and the long lead and treats then I’ll take him out and about your too early you’re forcing the dog I don’t like that
