This instructor is a Combat Diver who has completed much harder training than this. The training being conducted here is basic preparation for courses such as Combat Dive school and BUD/S second phase. If you can't survive a flooded Aqualung Atlantis dive mask and some hydration from the hose, you'll never survive the training that comes after this.

This is very similar to what PADI open water divers have to do during their certification course. There is absolutely no reason why any 17-30 year old can’t close off their nasal passages and breathe through their mouth when 9 and 10 year olds do it everyday for the PADI dive courses. Who knows though, maybe I’m wrong.

@@_CrispE_ we are talking about the exercise, not being a special forces member. All you need to do is stop breathing through your nose and breathe slightly through the side of your mouth while spitting out water on exhale. Keep your nose from sniffing, keep your mouth closed, breathe through the corner of your mouth. Ideally as seals you should be able to hold your breath for a long time as well essentially eliminating much of the problem they are having right now. It's to prepare them for when their janky, low cost gear doesn't work as intended in the field. Military grade just is a kind word for saying the gear grade is shit lol

Honestly, never been in the military, but being in workplaces where people are firm in the heat of things I totally appreciate this instructors approach. He's not berating the candidates like their idiots, he's being instructive. Yeah he's yelling but I can tell he's coming from a place of instruction and bringing the heat that the situation calls for. I've def been situations where the instruction comes from a selfish place for their own good not for the good of the team/crew etc and it doesn't foster anything other than resentment for most.

@ReverZe83
@ReverZe83 8 күн бұрын
@Alias3141 I don't think that was the purpose of the comment at all, OP was just saying it would be nice if war was not necessary. I think we can all agree with that sentiment 🤷‍♂️
@Alias3141
@Alias3141 8 күн бұрын
@ReverZe83 I don't agree with that. Such a world would rob us of what makes us human, namely, the ability to choose between right and wrong. Only in a world where we had no free will could absolute peace be possible. And if you wish for that kind of thing, you'll likely vote for those who will promise it. This has, historically, always been bad for the rights of the people. So no, I do not agree with the sentiment because its implications extend beyond the basic idealism it seems to express.

@@Alias3141 you can disagree all you want, but that's my belief. I'm not saying we shouldn't have conflict - that's unavoidable. I do however think we are capable as a species of resolving conflict without having to resort to physical violence.

In the very basic training i had in the army i learned to be uncomfortable. Im so thankful for that. It was nothing compared to this training here but im able to do things that others cannot. Im old man now, yet just the other day i hung a double pain glass/screendoor, sweat dripping, muscles burning, wasps buzzing by, one foot on the door holding it about a foot and half off the ground, balancing on one leg, screwdriver in one hand door in the other, looking like a weirdo on one leg, half my eye open from the drops of painfully salty perspiration, all alone. By the time i got the door on with one leg i was aching, shaking, and ready to fall over. I got the job done and I was so proud of myself. I balanced on one leg holding the door open and up with the other. Screwdriver just out of reachat the beginning(dumb) and had to stretch to grab it while shaking and sweating, standing on one leg. I got it done. My wife said, "oh good." Being comfortable with uncomfortable situations was the best training i ever had.

@@daz4074 with the vets its rare to hear, "it hurts so i can't." Im forty seven now and i have calmly dealt woth so many things that shook my significant other to the ground. It's like wife is upset sitting in the car while i go in to Walmart to buy some tools to fix our suv so we can get home. I run to the cashier with a set cheap wrenches when the whole sky starts dumping water on the building. Lightning crashes several times overhead as I'm standing in line. Wife sits in the suv warm and worried while i run across the parking lot, under dressed for the weather, and crawl under the vehicle with my flashlight in my mouth. Im being soaked and have to bend my arm like Gumby to reach the fitting. Transmission fluid steadily dripping on my arms and into my armpit. Im cold, wet, uncomfortable, and calm. Im emotionally calm and able to continue in the spring rain in the parking lot of walmart with a family loaded into the suv. I get done and my wife is amazed. She like how do you get under the vehicle in this storm. I just smile and say, we need to get home babe. She doesn't even understand. Personal comfort doesn't play a part. Im glad for this that sort of fortitude.

It’s mind over fear but most people fear it because they didn’t know how intense it was going to get. One examples le is I was up at Glencoe Army Assessment Centre and we were lifting bags (from smallest kg to heaviest kg) I got all of them but the heavier bag. As I thought I couldn’t lift it to put it on the platform as I was thin/skinny but not underweight. After encouragement from my fellow team members I eventually got the last remaining 1. I initially had fear upon seeing the last bag and well once I got my mind together and realise I can do it the fear vanished and became more confident in what I can do. I didn’t get into the Army but it taught me more about myself and what I can accomplish if I put my mind to it

Dude knew there were cameras rolling. This was the cadre being nice. They are normally harsh af. The course is designed to wring you out to the point of failure. This is a course that leads into career fields in the Air Force, such as Pararescue or Combat Controller. These are very specialized career fields that have like a 90% attrition rate because of the physical, mental, and intellectual demand.

@KL-pm6ti
@KL-pm6ti 23 күн бұрын
@OverRule1 what you say is true, but sometime fear and panic sets in and all you want to do is breath through out through your mouth. This training is to unlearn these panic and fear your body naturally does.
@justduro1527
@justduro1527 23 күн бұрын
@@OverRule1 You can do that obviously but the issue here is the start. When you feel water going in your nose and eyes + it most likely is cold water people can panick a bit and be very uncomfortable (Some may accidentaly breath in water) so that happens. Once you get used to that start then holding it shouldnt be as hard. Breathing out of your nose wont stop water from going in your nose completly but it will help.
