That actually was fact. George Michael was never the same in dealing with fame without Andrew and he pretty much says as much in his documentary A Different Story. At least with Andrew, he had someone to deal with the isolation and the pressures of stardom with. Plus Andrew, for as much as people ridicule his level of contribution to Wham!, really brought George, who was never the most confident person, out of his shell. Plus, he brought out the fun in George, which made Wham! so great as a duo.

George wrote all the songs, sang all the songs, arranged all the songs, produced all the songs - so how is Andrew as "important" to the group? He even said so himself. He did nothing other than appear on stage in performances - Yes, he pushed for them to form the group but George Michael was going to go where he went, you don't contain that extraordinary talent - Andrew always acknowledged that GM was worlds better a song writer and singer. No need to keep up repeating this whole myth.

*Roberto Robert:* Exactly! Andrew Ridgeley would be the first (and actually was I think?) to say George was everything in Wham! regarding the talent and music. And at least he's mature enough these days, not to deny laughing all the way to the bank while others mocked him. Fair play to the man.
@DrAnne-mc8er

*Roberto Robert:* Hey don't knock it Roberto! How many of us would give up working tomorrow if we didn't need the money to pay bills and stuff. I work to live, not live to work. To be fair though, the biggest piece of the pie in royalty payments goes to the songwriter not the artist, and George always made sure the writing credits went to 'George Michael', not 'Wham!' or 'George Michael & Andrew Ridgeley'. So with Wham!'s back catalogue, I reckon Andrew's probably only earning about £150,000 a year if that. The big money will continue to get paid into George Michael's Estate until the copyright expires on all his music in the year 2066. The largest benefactor of George's Estate is his God son, Roman Kemp (Martin and Shirlie Kemp's son). He's probably netting in excess of £6-8 million a year. And we thought Andrew Ridgeley did nothing for his money!!! *;-)*

The crazy thing is, his album was good. The problem was, Wham! fans were kind of shocked by it… Because it was Rock. Not Pop. I still have the CD and there are a few catchy songs on it. I think the biggest issue was that because of Wham’, rock fans didn’t take it seriously. That and I don’t remember any of the songs ever getting any radio play. It was as if the record company did it as a favor. Because they certainly didn’t put any money behind promoting it. My guess is, they listened to it, and didn’t think there were any breakout hits, and simply released it on its own merit. I think two of the songs on the album would’ve been decent and might’ve warranted a second album that could’ve been better… Had the record company again, put any promotion behind it. The good thing is, George gave Andrew writing credits on careless whisper. George had written the lyrics himself, knew how he wanted it to go, but Andrew actually wrote the chords for it on the guitar. So he did have a hand in writing it. I’d imagine that 50% of the writing credits that song were pretty lucrative. I’m pretty sure they wrote wake me up before you go go together also. You have to remember that in their minds, Wham! was a parody, of pop music. Which is why they knew it wouldn’t last. Everything they did in the videos was meant to annoy people. The funny thing is, they ended up having people dance the same way throughout the 80s. It was as if it was the only dance people knew. Regardless, they caught lightning in the bottle and we’re smart enough to realize that they could only last so long before it would fade. Faith was kind of a mix between pop and rock. A little bit edgier, and produced so many hits. Just like make it big did. Andrew, even back in the 80s was panned as part of the act and had nothing to do with the writing or playing of the music. Which was not true. If not for Andrew, George never would have done anything in music. Andrew pushed him into it and thank God he did. Because the world would have been without one of the most prolific, songwriters and singers, producers, and Musicians. People don’t realize that George not only wrote the songs that he sang… He played every instrument and mixed and mastered everything he did. He was essentially a one-man band. It would’ve been very cool to see him produce stuff for other people. I know at one point his cousin opened up a record company and unfortunately, his cousin miss managed the whole thing. As I could’ve seen, George be very successful in helping other artists fully imagine their musical dreams. I always like to remind people that, if not for Andrew, George would have been managing and probably taking over his dad‘s restaurant or done something else away from Music. Andrew saw the talent in him and knew that some of the songs that he had written were hits. Which is why he pushed for George to do the music thing. Had Andrew not raised his hand in class that day, they’re never would have been a Wham. Their story truly makes me believe that life may be fated. These little moments in time that could’ve gone any direction, all come together to make our lives what they become. Had we chose any other direction along the way, things may have not happened the same.

I am not perfectly understanding this conversation, but Wogan seems saying something that fools Andrew, by using words such as "pitfall" or "separate in bad terms" and "how about touring?" knowing that probably that(touring) wouldn't happen for Andrew after releasing this song. I feel that if I am a viewer of this channel, and hear this conversation, I would feel negative about the program. Isn't it common feeling for other countries in the world? I want to know how you feel about it I mean that in my country(Japan), we would never treat a person like this in TV? Or in UK, is this a sort of acceptable level of fooling a person? Or maybe I am not understanding English correctly? In the other video of this Wogan in 1983 or 1984 with Wham, Wogan was also saying to Andrew "you are lucky guy.", probably meaning that Andrew is lucky to work with GM. AR was struggling about opening his new way after Wham, and experienced some trials in other fields of possibilities after leaving Wham, and he just tried to get back to music. This was a nice effort and try even if it wasn't successful. Not all person could go well with music industry, and it's ok.

I think his mistake was his he was trying to break into the USA like George. They liked George because he did a lot of crooning songs but Andrew wasn't into that so he did guitar rock sound which was more popular in the USA than Britain at that time. If you look at reaction from audience he had a lot of support here but he was too busy trying to break into the USA. He should have concentrated where he had the support

He's fictional. Hugh Grant's character was allegedly inspired by the story of Andrew Ridgeley of the 80's British pop group Wham!, where one half of the duo, George Michael, went on to enjoy a successful solo career leaving the other bandmate behind in his solo ventures. The video for Pop! Goes My Heart borrows visual elements from Wham's Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go music video. The song Meaningless Kiss performed by Hugh Grant is similar to Wham's megahit Careless Whisper.

why is. everyone putting George down because of Andrew , he was a true friend and made sure Andrew was taken care of for the rest of his life, never had to work a day in his life , he never seemed interested in music even when he was with wham , all he did was chase girls while George did all the work !!!!! C’mon. George was the one with all the talent , looks writer , producer dancer and kindest person in the world, rest peacefully George , your voice is with me …….. every day 💖💖💖💖

Andrew should never have done this album - especially releasing it same year when GM released Listen Without Prejudice - not sure what anyone was thinking other than the fact that the record company had a deal to do one album with Andrew after Wham split up; frankly, Andrew should have just let it go and never done this - whatever this is.

His album was good, but I don't think he did himself any favors with that ridiculous costume he wore to promote the album. Especially the hat. The hat is kind of over the top. I think people looked at the costume and said, "You look silly, so you're album must be silly, and I don't want to hear it."

He let George Michael do all the work, and seemed to make no effort to participate, even into interviews : he didn't speak, was looking at the flloor, looked even to feel like being somewhere else. It isn't normal. Writing a book about them now : it is on my opinion for money. Mostly the person is not there anymore. He has always getting me on my nerves. Sorry to say that, but he is so "fake". I wish him to improve himself.

Proof that this guy was a nobody who got extremely lucky riding George Michael's coattails in Wham!. Dressing up in that jacket and those ridiculous hats he wore along with his wimpy singing voice sure didn't help. Has anybody heard the tracks from his album? it's just all wrong.. forgettable songs, terrible lyrics and horrible vocals. Is it any wonder why his career stopped dead in its tracks after just one album? Because nobody cared and rightfully so.
