Butter is great for making Coco Bread but for me a good quality soft margarine is much better!🧈
Don't forget to leave a comment, I read all of them😄
Ingredients
=====================
-2 cups All Flour
-1 cup Light Coconut Milk
*Use half cup water if its heavy coconut milk or coconut cream. half milk and half water
-1/2 Tbsp. Instant Yeast
-2 Tbsp. Sugar
-1/2 tsp Salt
-1/4 cup Softened Butter (I say 1/2 cup in the video, that's wrong)
-Additional butter for brushing and greasing baking tray
Method
====================
1. Combine coconut milk, yeast, sugar and salt in a bowl. Mix to dissolve
2. Add flour to liquid mixture and mix until flour is hydrated and mixture comes together as a dough.
3. Knead dough for about 8 minutes
4. Add softened butter to dough and knead until dough becomes smooth. dust with flour to make it workable if it gets too sticky.
5. Cover bowl with plastic wrap or a damp kitchen towel and let the dough proof at room temperature until it doubles in size.
6. Once the dough is proof, place on your work surface and divide evenly into 6 pieces.
7. Form each dough piece into a ball and roll out into flat disk a bout quarter inch thick
8. brush the top of each disk generously with softened butter and fold in half.
9. Line a baking tray with grease paper, brush with butter and place the newly form cocobread on it.
10. Proof cocobread in a warm area until it close to doubles in size.
11. Baked at 325 to 350 degrees F for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
12. When done remove from oven and brush generously with butter.
13. Enjoy hot!

There are a lot of health concerns with margarine which are mostly justified. Simply substitute margarine with butter at a 1:1 ratio or use other fats or oil such as coconut or olive oil for a product more in line with your health requirements. When making this recipe it was less about making a healthy Cocobread but more about making a Cocobread as close as possible to what I grew up eating as a child and a big part of the distint flavour came from margarine!

My husband is from Trinidad 🇹🇹 and I’m from the USA 🇺🇸 I enjoy making roti skin too , I just love baking bread from other countries too and this was amazing, he likes hops bread too, I make that for him too and now he really enjoys the Coco bread immensely. Which roti skin recipe do you use? I have been trying several different ways to make all kinds of breads. I have this one fermenting right now. This bread looks like a keeper. What I like about it is it takes a minimal amount of ingredients that are shelf stable ingredients. No yogurt, eggs, or cow milk.( Eggs where almost $5 a dozen ) Some recipes for different kinds fillings using different things that grows naturally or planted in the yard, would be nice. Meatless

YUM...this brings back so many memories of my childhood, growing up in NY, we would get Beef Patties with Coco Bread, and ride the bus home. There was this spot in Queens (Hillside Ave and Jamaica Ave)...they had the best patties and coco bread! Thanks for sharing...I will try your recipe!

Best beef patties and coco bread spot in Queens - hands down, is Jamaican Flavors. Way better than Golden Krust or any of the other spots. They have 4 locations in Queens. That might be the the restaurant you're referring to. Their beef patties and coco bread is so ridiculously delicious, I used to drive from the middle of Queens all the way to St Albans to get some. Then I discovered they had a spot in the Jamaica bus terminal.

Just made these this morning - I made the dough last night (with margarine) and put it in the fridge to slow ferment/proof in a covered container overnight. Portioned and rolled out this morning, let it proof for around an hour and baked at 350 degrees for 20-ish minutes. Light, fluffy, perfect. A great recipe!

Finally a recipe for coco bread. My grandmothers family is from Kingston but she came to US in 1916 with her cousin. Even though my mother is half Jamaican and my father was German I feel 100 per cent Jamaican. I have been to Jamaica 8 times. I am now 79 and too old to travel but my memory has many rooms of all the wonderful people I met and the ackee trees and salt fish dish. Happy August 6th Independence Day. Here in Colorado Springs we have many Jamaicans that come to work at the Broadmoor Hotel for the summer. I make them authentic Patties and give them a red stripe to wash it down. I got stung on year while swimming at Doctor's Cave Beach. Hurt like #&@$. As King Bob Marley would sing One Love I thank you for your wonderful video. I subscribed and look forward to seeing all your videos. You made an old lady happy today❤ Irie

This looks so yummy and perfect shape and size for a sandwich. Im from south Florida how is it Ive never had this bread before I got to try this I love Jamaican food now that i moved to east Tennessee mountains if i want Jamaican food I have to cook it cause I cant run out and grab a Jamaican patty or any other Jamaican food. Thats one thing I really miss about living in Florida is the food. so many cultures in south Florida that the food is awsome and the seafood is fresh and yummy. In Tennessee we dont have those thing is Appalachian cooking or southern cooking BBQ things like that not say the southern foos isnt good because I can eat me some biscuits and sausage gray that is good but I miss the variety of south Floridas food the island foods are so taste... Thanks for the recipe I hope I can pull off the dough making the bread really looks yummy

I am from The Bronx and moved to PA where the Jamaican restaurants out here are not the same and don’t serve the same dishes. I been craving a beef patty with coco bread lately. Thank you for making the recipe super simplified and easy to follow. I will be trying it today ❤ 🙋🏾‍♀️

@@summer7honey yeah, okay . I know we have flat bread that's the one we roast onto the tawa/flat stone . I'm not familiar with the flap bread though.
