I tried this recipe this morning. It was delicious, light and fluffy..not too sweet at all. I made frosting to go with it but it was good on it's own. 5 stars 🌟

I baked it today, it's really Delicious, since I did not have buttermilk, I decided to use some milk and added some vinegar....googled to get the right ratio...soft moist and really nice..thanks for the recipe.

This is too good! I made half recipe as I don’t have enough butter but it turns out really well. Really soft, buttery and most importantly the sweetness is just right. Even my parents love it❤

@@melanyandrea8685 same here! What I mean is it’s perfect for someone who doesn’t fancy sweet cake. I think the recipe is perfect as I’m afraid it will affect the texture if you reduce it 😄That’s just my opinion though

I can just taste the buttery goodness through the screen. It also looks so light and fluffy. I really appreciate you trying so many times to get the perfect recipe to share. It looks delicious enough on its own but would there be anything to pair it will such as homemade whipped cream? Thank you for sharing and keep on caking 💜

Thanks so much Lorraine! I almost gave up haha but glad I persisted :D and yes you can totally pair it with some whipped cream or any frosting you like really! Chocolate frosting would also work well too as it's a pretty neutral vanilla/butter flavoured cake! :)

As salaam aleikum Maryam, Just made this cake and very satisfied with the results. Loved the idea of cooling it on the rack, made it sooo easy to cut . Could you please show some more simple cakes without icing please ? Maybe a coconut cake without icing ? Thanks I also made the strawberry cake , the one without icing , and that was very tasty too

I'm trying this recipe today and instead of 112g buttermilk I put 80gm milk+42gm orange juice..hope it turns out great... Would like to see how MK bake an orange butter cake

Hello MK when I heard butter cake I was like wow I love the butter cake from California pizza kitchen I don’t know if you’ve tried it or has anyone tried it and that is like delicious I wondered if this is the same for some reason when I take a bite of the butter cake at the restaurant it has like a sugary topping have you tried their cake, it doesn’t matter. I love all your recipes. I’m gonna try this one next.

Generally eggs can be replaced in recipes where eggs are not one of the main ingredients. You may find large cake recipes that call for one or two eggs. However in this fairly small cake there are five eggs. So the eggs are important for taste and texture. If you use an egg replacement in this, you will get a very different final result. If you cannot have eggs, please look for another recipe. All the best.

Hi there! :) I know the 3tsps seems a lot but trust me it provides a great lift for this cake and gives you a nice fluffy texture :) and you can make your own buttermilk by adding a tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice to a cup of milk and letting it sit for 10 minutes. Hope that helps :)

This looks so yummy! If i were to do this using 250g butter, i suppose the flour and sugar would also be 250g. How about the oil and eggs and baking powder do i need to use please? and also how much milk?

I tried this cake and it was super moist and i baked it in a 10 inch pan so it was flatter and maybe at a slighter higher temperature. Had a slice while it was hot it’s tasted perfect not very sweet though. Please tell me if i can add orange peel or lemon zest to it and any other cakes that can be made from this cake? like the 3 milk cake? can this be made in a bundt pan? and if yes what size? how is this different from your vanilla cake recipe? thank you, awaiting reply.

May i know if you remove the cake immediately from the pan or you let it cool on cooling rack (how many minutes you let them cook) Do you place the top portion of cake on the cooling rack?

Letting a cake cool a little bit helps it not stick when you try to take it out of the pan. When it's still warm, it's a little damp and sticky per sa'.

Hi Leone! :D I am so so happy to hear you're enjoying the content :D when it comes to baking, I think it depends on what kind of oven you have and the settings they offer. I myself use a fan forced oven which means both elements are on, but the fan helps move the air around resulting in a more evenly baked cake. but if you don't have a fan forced oven then using the bottom element works best to prevent an overbaked cake :)

I will try it, this cake seems soo delicious One question though (I have a superhuman sense of taste, and I don’t appreciate cakes with oil (even canola oil) ; yes, i’m aware that the amount of oil in this recipe is very small, but.. I really am an alien haha) : Why do you put oil in the recipe ? I’m curious ; if it helps the mixing of butter and sugar, would it be possible to replace it by molten butter ? Or do you think that the oil is just necessary ? Of course i’ll do as you say, O Wise Chef of All Cakes !

You're so welcome! :D And haha I totally get your 'superhuman sense of taste', I have that with eggs! I'm so sensitive to like that eggy smell you sometimes get in sponge cakes and things xD. So the main reason I put oil in most of my cakes is purely for moisture. I find that adding oil just takes the 'moistness' to another level, and helps keeps cakes moister for longer. And haha I laughed so loud when I read 'O Wise Chef of All Cakes!', I am flattered to be given such a title :D. I would recommend putting in the oil for that extra softness, but if you would really prefer not to, then you can add a little extra buttermilk at the end (say a 1/4 cup) in replacement of the oil :D

Omg same I can sense even the teeniest bit of oil in cakes and it affects the crumb and texture. It’s for this reason I’ve never made the Hershey’s chocolatey chocolate cake 🤣

@@CakesbyMK hey MK Won’t it be better to add sour cream to the butter milk instead of substituting all the oil with additional buttermilk since sour cream has a higher fat content and will balance it out more evenly. Upping the liquid content in high ratio cakes disproportionately might result in a wet batter yielding a cake that’s not as good.

I have a question. I always go to cheap bakeries to get sponge cake that is basic without frosting. It always smells divine vanilla wise. I used many vanillas but i cant get it to be strong. What do you recommend? I am sure it is not a fancy ingredient.

Hi! Thank you so much for this recipe it looks so delicous and fluffy! But I wanted to ask if it is possible if I use a glass 8x8 pan? It looks so delicious and moist. my family likes butter cakes (most cake recipes I try are fake and don't work) and your recipe looks really legit! I don't have a metal 8 inch pan so I was wondering if I could use a glass one that says "8x8" on the bottom. Ive heard that glass makes a difference when baking so it would be a huge help. Thanks! and Jazakalahu khairun. *(my first time making a butter cake I cant wait!)

Hi there! So glad to hear you're thinking of trying this recipe :D. So it's best to use a metal tray but you can bake it in a glass dish too, it's just that the edges may cook a little more than you need. If you have a 7 or 9 inch pan you can get away with using them too :). Hope you enjoy the recipe :D

oh ok thanks! i was thinking about lowering the temp by 25 degrees because I thought I would;d burn it . but a few burnt edges wont be bad. thanks!

Yes normally lowering the temp would be good but because the cake is already baked at quite a low temp (150c) you don't want the temp to be tooo low so I'd say keep it the same temp but just check the cake a little earlier than the stated cooking time so maybe around the 50 min mark and see how you go :D
