This is fantastic series to follow. Great stuff Sage. Myself and a buddy did the 'soft' utmb clockwise last summer over 5 days. There was very little out there on fast packing / trail running the route over a few days. Loving revisiting the route and getting Sages perspective. We stayed in same hotel in Les Contamines on our last night. Looking forward to seeing the next couple of days. Best of luck on your journey Sage

Hey man, good luck in the race this year. I started following you in 2014 and your videos helped me improve my run times for the military. Fast forward to this year and I just did my first marathon and my first ultramarathon (108km). Maybe one day I'll meet you at one of these races but until then I'm rooting for you to do well.

Just awesome, why stay at the hotels vs the refuges? Sorry if a dumb question
@Vo2maxProductions2 жыл бұрын
Easier to charge things (drone, cameras, phone etc), better sleep quality (for me at least) and more privacy. I also knew I could go town to town (most hikers taking more days could not..so they'd have to camp or stay in a refuge...which I think get booked up even more way in advance). Plus better food options in the towns with nice restaurants for me. On the downside it made things more expensive (I stayed in pretty nice hotels)...but it was a luxury.

Sage your filming of this course is making me super jealous, in a good way. Keep up the work fellow vegan and super human! Side note are your using an Insta360 for some of those medium range shots? do you recommend it? I am moving to UK in August and thinking of filming some of the trails there

Ask for a Marinara pizza, which should not contain any fish (they were poor and had to sell the fish) or cheese. Topping is tomato and lots of garlic. We were once given the Italian menu, which had this, it was the best. Next night they gave us the English menu, which did not have it! And of course it is the cheapest thing they sell. Beer replaces electrolytes…..I could convince myself of that!
@Jameswmin2 жыл бұрын
A bit of oregano too I think. One of the best pizzas I’ve ever had was a marinara 👍
@markthomasson50772 жыл бұрын
What’s great is that you don’t have cheese, which is yummy to start, then congeals and less good. Whereas the Marinara just keeps going

This is just great! Really good coverage of the route and your thoughts going into the race with knowledge of the course. Are you staying out in Chamonix until the race? How long will you have been in France? I'd love to spend that time out there in the mountains. Best of luck, looks like you'll be well prepared, and I hope it goes to plan on race day! I'll be cheering from the UK!

Hi Sage, you probably already talked about this, but how many Spring Energy gels do you consume per hour during an ultra? Considering 60-90g CHO per hour requirements, it seems you need around 3-4 Spring gels per hour, but calorie wise, i.e. using awesome sause flavour, two should be enough. So do you count carbs or calories? I'm thinking of using a mixture of gels for my upcoming race and although Spring gels taste fantastic, but they are much heavier and lower on calories compared to GU, so it might not be the logical choice.

1 of those videos where we wish 4k was still a thing.
@Vo2maxProductions2 жыл бұрын
yeah the Insta 360 shoots 5.2k or something...but stretched out over 360 degrees even at the highest render it looks pretty low quality in the end. My drone doesn't shoot 4k either. I could do it with the GoPro of course (and my phone), but generally it's not worth the edit since those other cameras (and even my main camera...a Sony a6000) can't shoot 4k even
