I have been a medic for 25 years. The typical junk shears get old to deal with when you need a product to work. I purchased the Leatherman raptors, and i absolutely love them

As a paramedic of 20+ years of service, I was delighted when one of the student paramedics I had been mentoring bought me some fancy shears. These were Leatherman Raptors. Compared to the raptors, these seem a bit clunky. The extra tools are a nice-to-have in some situations (minor fixing of the ambulance usually), but also make decontamination a nightmare. First owner lifetime warrantee on the Raptors too - not worried about how many sets of leathers I cut ha ha.

I bought Leatherman Raptor and a clone. I found working in the hospital I really only used the scissors. Our oxygen tanks are knobs now and I carry a multitool so I can change regulators or turn on/off with it. I went back to regular scissors. I do enjoy having good lights- we have cracked chests open with my flashlights as light because mine is brighter than the medical headlamps or ICU lights. Nice to have in emergency. EMT friend of mine told about a guy who tried to commit suicide with shotgun. When he got to scene face was blown off and the man was trying to talk but jawbones hanging off and missing. Messy. Takes special people to be first responders. My hat tips to you all. God bless you.

regular medical shears can be tossed in the dishwasher if bloodied. these fancy pants ones need alcohol and q-tips for all the nooks and crannies.

Pair a good set of shears with your favorite victorinox and have a very usable set.

Looking at it, I think I'd prefer the Leatherman Raptor. The additional tools don't see that useable, that said, I love the SOG compound leverage system, It's a game changer on the multi-tool.

Thank you for your words on first responders. I'm a retired fireman, first responder, and emt. I've seen some stuff i wouldn't wish on an enemy. Sometimes we carry demons that we just can't shake, and patience is appreciated.

X-shears for pure scissors, leatherman for multi tool. Tbh the three pre-hospital tools on here that make it interesting are of course scissors, the seatbelt cutter, glass breaker. Would be cool to see in use.

Thanks Doc for the review. I've been an RN for over thirty years; I see this tool as a great back up for an emergent situation, but for daily use no. Try cleaning and sanitizing this tool between dressing changes and I will bet the nooks and crannies of this thing will drive you to throw it in the first sharps container you come across.

I have the Xshears, they are just simple and better quality. I would rather have something you can reuse and sharpen. Fotr the other stuff I had the Benchmade SOCP rescue tool, again simple and easy to use with seatbelt cutter, window breake and oxygen wrench.In an emergency you want items where you don't have to think or fiddle to use.

So the lid lifter can open the creamer bottle? Also can the shearers spark a ferro rod? Guess you could use the Awl to clean the ports of a Trangia Spirit Burner! All kinds of uses! Thanks Ernie!

My SOG parashears came with a pocket clip screwed on that a new addition? I bought my first set para shears the first year they came out. But none I’ve seen online for sale or KZbin has a pocket clip is it a fake?
