I'm definitely gonna try the 24 hr freezer tip, I learned about winter sowing in January but in SC, it seems I should have done it in December because it's warming up now. About the extra water in the tray, use a turkey baster!

Yup, with WS you definitely need to be chasing the coldest times to help the seeds. You can also pop those seeds in the freezer for a few weeks before placing them outside.

You always do such a great job with your seedlings. I did not know you can fertilize so early. I’m learning. 😊

Thank you for making this video. It’s really helpful to see what my seedlings are supposed to look like during the growth process. Now I know for sure mine are way too leggy 😂

:( You can still pot them up deep or when you transplant, you can bury them a little deep too.

Ooh! Those yarrow are so cute! Yarrow LOOOVVVEEESSS it here. I am waiting for a bit more yarrow to start in fun colors. I am having a surprisingly good germination (knock on wood). Tiny lisianthus, delphinium, and even Phlox. I'm trying winter sowing again. So aesthetically displeasing, but I have had good luck in the past with jugs.

Hi Roxanna. I follow Jen of My Flower Farm. She grows and sells tons of flowers. She uses soil blocks (that big one makes IDK 100 at a time?) Anyway she uses the mesh BF trays with solid tray underneath and a wicking mat. She waters when the wicking mat is dry. I have not gotten the soil block thing yet but I’m tempted to try again now.

Thank you for the recommendation, I will definitely check her videos.

Do you think using Fort Vee really helped with the great with the germination or not? I've used it in the past but never for soil blocking. In fact 2 years ago I purchased a whole sling because my garden is very sandy. It really helped my soil😊

I personally don't think it helps with germination per se, I tested 4 soils earlier in the year and they all did great using the same seeds, I definitely see the advantage when the seedlings start going, you can even germinate seeds in paper towels so while the medium is important, I think the conditions provided are even more.

If you let a few of your buplearum go to seed in the garden, you will never have to worry about starting them again. I’m on my second season of self seeded buplearum 🎉 so make sure you put it in a spot you don’t mind it coming back again and again

Right now I am planning to do most on raised beds, but I might pop a few plants here and there in my flower beds, It looks amazing on pics and this will be my first time growing it.

I have soil blocks in started January 14th, used vermiculite, but still have a lot of green growth on the Fort Vee soil mix. I wonder if I need to let the block dry out more before watering? Suggestions?
@SoilandMargaritas16 сағат бұрын
@@barbaramccann7944 I definitely do, and now that the seedlings have roots I don’t completely soak them completely, just over half of the blocks and I stop.

Hi Roxanna, thanks for the seed starting inspo, I have only done some winter sowing so far this year, I have the bootstraps as well, do you find any advantage to also having the little trays you put in the freezer in the baggie? Do I need them and don’t know it😂? What are they better at than the cell trays? Thank you!
@SoilandMargaritas13 сағат бұрын
😝 you don’t need them, using the inserts 6-cell ones works well too, hech, if you can fit a 10x20 tray in the freeze do it!
