At the age of 5, Ananya's parents sent her to singing and dance classes while growing up in Mysore upon realising that their daughter is quite a talent. She would learn Sugama Sangeetha (Light music) to begin with. She attended Natana School Of Theatre Arts, where she met her biggest inspiration Raju Ananthaswamy whom she considers an idol. Even though she was learning Ranga Geethe (Theatre songs), Sugama Sangeetha and Bhava Geethe together, Ananya would develop a special interest towards Folk music and thus the self discovery of her own talent. Needless to say that she swept all the school and college competitions across Mysore and around. Her first project as a playback singer was for the song “Baalu Moore Dina” in the movie “Olave Jeevana Lekkachara”. Although her big break was when she sang “Nee Thoreda Galigeyali” of the critically acclaimed Kannada movie “Lucia”. She won the Filmfare Award for her work in the movie “Rama Rama Re”. Fast forward to 2018, her song “Mental Ho Jawa” from the movie “Tagaru” is ruling the charts at the moment.
She has pretty much worked with all the biggies in the industry from Arjun Janya, Mano Murthy, V. Manohar to Amit Trivedi in Bollywood. Her biggest influences are Kaushiki Chakraborty, Ila Arun, Shubha Mudgal, B.V Karanth, and Raju Ananthaswamy.

Whoever had a trance listening to this song, its been sung in the jungles of South Karnataka for atleast 800 years. Story is that Lord Shiva roamed the jungles riding on a Tiger. He was a saint, a boy , but Lord Shiva. Please visit the temple of Male Mahadeshwara (Shiva) for whom this song was composed as a folklore. Just now , at 3:30 am , a stabbing pain in my injured back woke me up … I heard a distant sound in the silence of the night , I had forgotten to put my earpods back in the case, and the algorithm had taken me to this song … it took my pain away !! I've tried to roughly translate the kannada folk song here. It is a simple song about a woman offering worship to Mahadeva, (or Maadeva of the Male-Mahadeshwara hills) with some deep symbolisms and truth. Although it is not explicitly mentioned where she is (whether at home or upon the hill where the temple is) we can assume she is at home while her heart and mind are elsewhere, in the mountains of Mahadeva. here goes: *Sojugada sooju-mallige, Maadeva nimma mande myaale dundu-mallige: sojuga: wonder sooju-mallige: a variety of jasmine (mallige) with pointed needle(sooji) like petals maadeva: Mahadeva in folk tongue nimma mande myaale: upon your head dundu mallige: a variety of jasmine with multi layered petals and rounded(dundu) in appearance. (the lady here delights in the wondrous creation of Mahadeva and offers flowers to the lord, one by one, calling out their names as though she were calling different names of the lord. Much like offering water as abhisheka to the Lord "completes the cycle", offering flowers symbolizes a deep reverence to nature and creation) *Andaavare mundaavare matte taavare pushpa, chandakki maale bilpatre... maadeva nimge, chandakki maale bilpatre tulasi dalava, maadappna poojege bandu... andaavare : anda+taavare beautiful lotus mundaavare: mandaara flower(?) matte: and again, taavare pushpa: lotus flower. chandakki: pretty. could also mean akshata (chandakki=beautiful rice literally) maale: garland bilpatre: bilva leaves maadeva nimge: to you, maadeva. tulasi dalava: leaves of tulasi, maadappna poojege bandu: having come to the pooja of father Mahadeva. (the lady offers lotuses upon beautiful lotuses to the lord Mahadeva, as she worships him, singing of the beautiful garlands and leaves of bilva and tulasi she has brought especially for him. The song in fact is loaded with symbolism. For instance, The white jasmine has always been a symbol of the Karpura-gaura Shiva Mallikarjuna, Lotuses as a symbol of the enlightenment of the soul, bilva as the triadic nature of ParaShiva as the creator, sustainer and destroyer .. etc. Oranges and citric fruits incidentally are symbols of the created universe in Indian iconography) *beTT-hattkonD hogorge haTTi hambalavyaaka, beTTad maadeva gatiyendu..maadeva neeve, maadeva neeve..maadeva neeve beTTad maadeva gatiyendu avarinnu haTTi hambalava maretaaro.. beTTa: hill, here refering to Male-mahadeshwara hills (literally) but Kailasa in effect hattkonD hogorge: to those who climb the hill haTTi: house hambalavyaaka: why the desire/attachment/worry? beTTad maadeva gatiyendu: the lord of the hill is the sole refuge. maadeva neeve: only you maadeva.. beTTad maadeva gatiyendu avarinnu haTTi hambalava maretaaro : they forget their woes and worries and attachments when they sought refuge in the lord of the hill. (the lady here having her mind firmly attached in the lord atop the hill, speaks a simple truth about the pangs of life and our attachments and how only Mahadeva is the refuge, only Mahadeva is the refuge...only Mahadeva is the refuge) hope this helps :) Kindly do forgive any mistakes. After hearing this song at Isha Mahasivaratri, my heart was crying everyday to hear at least once every night. What a soulful divinity in Ananya bhat voice. i became a big fan of her even though i am from tamil and without knowing the meaning of this song.

I am non kannadiga..i have listened to this master piece atleast 9 to 10 times daily.....it's addicting......Ananya devine voice.....sumukha percussion....sooting guitar.....plus is this team taken our native folk...janapadha geethae...n used live instrument in limited quantity...with miraculous voice of Ananya .......we expect more from u guys.....

@@shruthimeenakshiviswanatha8334 yes i listened it multiple times but in that version there is lot of extra touch is given , instruments are taking over her voice at some time.. But this is the purest form , she is singing it from the bottom of her heart. I get tears in my eyes when i listen this version :)
