Sol Sestancia 1 story mode (SRB2 MODS)

Last update on my little game project, back to animation bussines after this.
Imagine a perfect world where I DID manage to get the darn cutscenes to play in the game, and this would have been the result.
Well, not really, cutscenes in SRB2 are considerably more pixelated, hard to sync and would play more like slideshows, but whatever.
Here's finally what the intended experience of playing trough the pack would have been, more or less.
Plus a showcase of some of the secret levels I haven't seen other uploaders find yet.

@@JakeTylenol Yeah, I can put boss fights in here. In fact, you see one show up in the secret Green Hills Level at the 38 minute mark. But that's a boss from the vanilla Sonic robo blast 2 game. And just repeating those bosses is kinda pointless. And as for making NEW bosses, heh, that requires actual code writing, and I'm terible at that. Maybe if someone else volunteers to create the boss for me, but I ain't gonna programm one.

I happened to discover this pack while just scrolling through the Sonic Robo Blast message boards. Hands down I have to say this was one of the best map packs I ever played, it oozes so much personality and takes me back to the simple days of playing Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. This, this was a major Ratatouille moment for me. You've managed to recapture the spirit of Sonic Adventure while doing your own thing and that is awesome. This has what new Sonic games lack for me, personality, color and passion.

This radiates the "fine, ill do it myself" energy and i LOVE it. Having just played ShadowTH i realized how much i enjoy big open-ish very heavy on context levels with stuff happening in them and doing various missions that isnt just "go from point A to point B". Sure they went overboard with missions and the context always being "we are fucking under attack" wears you out, but still. I enjoyed the general direction. So this feels like a mix of SA1 and ShadowTH and im all for it! UPD:whoa, howd you make a radar work? Gerald creating ULF joke put a big smile on my face. I really really love SA Robotnik drama, and this joke is fantastic. Its really funny, conveys Eggman's ego AND implies some bitterness and unresolved feelings. Perfect.

Well, that was very impressive Roger. Pity you can’t get the cutscenes working in the actual game. Maybe some programming wizard will offer his services. I regret it ain’t me, I know nothing about it. I’ll be honest, I was a little lost in patches through the plot, but I think I got the hang of it as it went along. How long did it take to make this mod? How easy is it to make mods for this game? Regardless, nice job. Hope it brought you satisfaction in your work!

Back to the heavily flanderized/bastardized version of Knuckles I guess... Other than that, this was an absolute treat to watch. It's awesome seeing all the main heroes travel together in one cohesive adventure.

Jup, I commit multeple sins that I accuse Sega off, go figure. Was considering playing it more straight, but with my crummy skills and artwork, figured just sticking to the parody route would work better rather then wasting better more ambitious ideas on my own incompotence. Who knows, maybe I'll try making a proper Sonic Adventure 3 with the experience I get from this project in the far future.

It just gets.......tiresome seeing Knux treated that way all the time. It's possible to make him a funny character without turning him into a snarling, punch-crazy fool.

But yeah, I kinda do regret playing Knuckles this way. Especially as the story gets more focused later on. Oh well.

@@Rogerregorroger I'm one of the biggest Knuckles fans you'll ever meet, it's even what inspired my username for crying out loud...and believe me, I despise how far from his roots Knuckles has fallen and quite frankly, I suspect Sonic Team doesn't want to remember stuff like the Master Emerald. HOWEVER, the only exception I make to my personal stance on Knuckles...is when it's you and Hyrit's Ar-Knuckles, because it will never not be funny to me. So for whatever it's worth, if you ever need a voice for a "real" Knuckles, I'd be more than happy to offer my services...but I have absolutely zero problem with Ar-Knuckles being in any story, it's just too funny!

Man, the music is bumpin' awesome for level music. I'm glad you played through it, some of the corridors and holes in the walls I totally missed until you jumped through. Knuckles is as stoic as ever, I enjoyed playing him again, though maybe it is time I gave him a proper voice...? Like we keep the Arnold voice for special occasions? Then again, I love doing that voice...

Yeah, in hindsight maybe I should have played Knuckles straight here, since this isn't really a parody. Then again, the level of ambition I went for skyrocketed during production so my initial plans were more silly then what it is now. Just finished playing this map as Mario/Luigi and man what a wacky journey and hilarious. Especially at the "RUN" section as the bros, long jumping through the stage not getting shot. Looking forward for the 2nd part tho.

Excellent job mate. With the cutscenes it makes more sense in context. Also showing areas and characters I might have missed when I played it. (had no idea Tangle had speaking lines XD). Also it's probably better to play as a singlular character as when I played as both Sonic & Tails they both activate a character that speaks making them speak in an echo so I had to approach them carefully. Man I can't wait to see how Sonic & co will save the day in part 2.

Thanks! The double audio problem should be fixed in version 1.4. And yeah, i deliberatly showed off some gags and hidden area's in here that i figured people would miss. Tough you didn't miss Tangle's lines, they weren't added till version 1.4.

Gave this mod a try and it's pretty good. A few graphical transition issue which are hard to ignore but for the most part, pretty good. Though if you want to have boss fights, you could use a boss already in the game and make a different arena like most DOOM Mods do, or just stick to a finale event like the RUN level you made.

Oh, I can put bosses in, the first Eggman bossfight shows up at the end of the bonus Green Hills level. In terms of story there wasn't really room for a fight just yet. Yet adding them for the sake of gameplay feels hollow when they're just the same vanilla bosses anyway. Tough in part 2 I'll add more boss fights.

It isn't, the cutscenes were planned to be just a slideshow (in version 1.2 of Sol Sestancia, you can see the first cutscene how it would have looked in-game) But when I couldn't even get that to work properly, I gave up and just fully animated them since they were going to be seperate youtube video's now anyway.

Remembered and saved up from many sources across my life. I have an extensive database of "hey this could be useful for a cartoon one day" songs, especially when they're from rare and obscure sources. All of them can be found on KZbin nowadays tough. But yeah, list of the specific track names and their source is mentioned in the credits at the end.

Not so much hard work as more that that requires writing code, which I'm terrible at. Unless someone who's willing to do the code writing for me is willing to help out, I'm staying awayfrom any hard rewriting of the game. Besides, if I get into the position I get to redraw the playable characters, I'd probably be more tempted to just make it an IMP fangame and draw my own characters, instead of having Yet another incarnation of Sonic running around.

@@Rogerregorroger After watching this, I felt like a few bosses could be here (custom or not) Eggman Fights: after School Campus and Party Like It's 1959, and before RUN. Fights: School Campus should be the Egg Coliseum (Castle 3) and P.L.I.1959 should be Egg Presser (Techno 3)(Rename it Egg Presser cause that's not it's real name) Fang Fights: After each Emerald Hunt (Boot Camp & Boot Leggin') Reason: Well, Fang's story in SRB2 isn't canon. After their scramble in Arid Canyon, and Team Sonic knocking him off the train, he would be *VERY* angry. So, if he heard Eggman is at it again, and the fact the Master Emerald is broken, he would take the chance to get revenge! Maybe help behind the scenes. Metal Sonic Fights: Jungle Crash Site, and RUN. Reason: Well, maybe Metal was being charged up on the Egg Fleet 3.5 after being beaten by Sonic in SRB2 (Using Core 2 fight). When crashing in the swamp he would reactivate since there's no power. In RUN he could've followed them after his defeat in the swamp, noticing Eggman's plan is to take over the world without the need of him (heck, not even bother about him), he could feel remorse for Sonic somehow. If Eggman killed him, sure he could be the one true Sonic, but there would be no more challenge after that. So teaming up with Sonic is the better option. In RUN he could attempt to help Sonic by showing him the way. However, maybe he could double-cross them in Sol Sestancia II.

Funny thing is, someone else asked me to do a level with Sonic teleporting to all the diffrent incarnations of tvshows and comics he had, so if I do a level (Well, probably levelS) like that, the mushroom dimension could make an appearence as movie representative.

Sorry, no. Outside of the science fair level, all of them have a trail of rings to follow, I did my best to prevent the level design to be labyrinth like. It's always straight ahead, just sometimes with diffrent routes to chose.
