do you miss the 6500s at all? This seems like a lot more work than those. Obviously it'll be more professional once you're done but you have to appreciated the simplicity of the 6500 systems when they're all set up and work correctly. When are you going to move the the 18k pv? That's the next big move :D
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
@@stephenfuller2936 It’s actually not much more work. The cerbo isn’t a necessity but gives you much more visibility and control over your system. The Lynx system just simplifies a bus bar system you would need in any environment. The only extra work would be having to mount the Charge controller and run another set of battery cables. Everything else is pretty much the same from an overall system perspective. At this point, I can’t find an actual reason to miss the 6500s. I haven’t done a large load test, but I don’t miss all the little issues I was having, plus the 5kVAs are so much quieter! To be honest, I don’t know if I see an 18kPV in my future or not. They have their “upgrade program” going on right now and even with that incentive, I haven’t been a fan of the lack of support and communication I received from SS. If something changes down the road, then I guess we’ll see what happens…

What you did with the terminators is correct. The V.E. Can network should be terminated at both ends, the same goes for the BMS can network. Some supported BMSs are internally terminated so you would just need a terminator on the cerbo gx. - Hope that all makes sense. Keep up the great work👍

I used so many blue tapcons on many projects an electrician i work with turned me onto the little plastic insert screws. Definitely less aggravating then when u strip out a tapcon. Or 1/2" plywood with 1/2 cement board on top so u dont have to drill too many holes in the block. Too late now but its nice to know
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
Yeah, had I known all the drilling I was gonna need to do, I would have just layered plywood and cement board. Oh well, maybe the next conversion…😁

The color differences are because one is painted and the other is most likely ABS injection molded plastic. Paint is mixed in large vats and the color is pretty consistent, mixing colors for plastics is a dark art and can vary a bit from the beginning of a run to the end because the pellets are mixed and melted right at the injection mold machine.
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
Thanks, yeah I had a feeling that it was all different due to the plastic vs the painted metal.

That's interesting. My Cerbo GX from 1+ years ago did not include ferrite beads. Guess they found out about this later? Can you get those after sales?

Those came with the GX display. I’m sure you could provably get a set from Amazon if your having issues though.

Maybe I missed it. Did you explain what the cerbo and that screen actually does? Like why it’s needed or not
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
The cerbo gives you a single interface to be able to monitor and control different aspects of your system. It also gives you the ability to view and access your data remotely using the VRM. I believe I mentioned this in the video, but neither device is required. If you don't have some kind of GX device in your environment (cerbo or raspberry pi running VenusOS), you lose the remote control capability as well as being able to quickly view what's going on in your environment. You could just as easily have a tablet viewing the web interface for the Cerbo instead of having the screen.

Hey Adam loving your system more and more. Have one question is the direction flow of your DC watt draw correct? Should it not be pulling from the battery bank and not putting into the battery?
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
Sean, thanks a lot! I'll be perfectly honest, that was a long time ago, it's possible I had something extra connected to the system that was putting power into the batteries at that time. I actually don't use the DC system anymore. It's really designed if you have outside loads (or supplies) that aren't able to connect to the Victron system.

Wouldn't it be easier to connect both VE.CAN devices direct to the Cerbo and terminate at both devices?
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
Don’t think it really makes much difference. You still have 2 devices and 2 terminators. If the cables didn’t reach between devices, sure, but there’s not much difference in spacing.

I say take everything down and send it out to by vinyl wrapped in your favorite color or pattern. Then they'll all match and you can pick any color you want, like say, tiger stripes. Or let your wife pick and end up with a nice neon pink. :)

These things are so bloody complicated, Why couldn't they just standardize it like the old Selectronic Inverter I've had for over 20 years, as it has it's own simple energy computer which tells me state of charge, DC power going in or out & AC loads which is all I need to know & the only add on to the inverters energy computer is the current shunt & battery temp probe, that's it.
@AdamDeLayDIY9 ай бұрын
I think it's like most new systems. Once you understand how it works, it's not that bad to work with. Any new "computerized" inverter is going to have its own level of complexity. I will agree though, there are times I wish there weren't so many computerized components (in most solar equipment) and it could just get back to the basics.
@hiteck0079 ай бұрын
@@AdamDeLayDIY I think keeping it simple is why this old inverter is still running after Decades of continuous operation & on top of that it's been smashed of the wall 3 times & drowned in rain in severe cyclones because of trees crashing through the shed roof & yes it has a few dents but still working. I can't see this happening with with new gear & as you can probably guess, I want to setup a new location with new gear, I have some victron gear but it's so complicated, that's why I only used the essential basic components so far.

Go from mppt to cerbo VE.can then from cerbo to shunt then terminators on shunt, one single cable running

Sure, that’s another way to do it. Probably would have been easier, but for the time being, I don’t see having to pull the terminator out. It’ll prob be a bit of a pain when I do though…
