It is interesting that these inverters just keep getting bigger and bigger, Yet our maximum power consumption is typically not nearly as much as we might think.

@@backtothepast1850 It's funny you mention that because I was thinking the same thing. I had 13kVA in my old system, now I'm down to 10kVA and I haven't had any problems running any loads. Our homes are 200a homes and we're able to run most things on much less.

I wish I had bought my system through Current Connected, one of my Multi's has an issue and it's been over a month since I reported it and I'm getting crickets from the supplier support team. Like you said, having quality support is a must. My main complaint about the Lynx system is that there needs to be left and right versions of the components. I'm very tight on space as well and had to really jump through hoops to get things to fit, having an opposite hand version of the components would have made things much easier.

I know exactly what you mean about the lynx system. I had actually mentioned that in my video but ended up having to cut due to time constraints. The only way you could get around it on your own is to make a DIY bus bar that connected the sections together. You would have to add studs to one side of the bus bar and then you should be able to connect it all together.

Our 24v 5kVA Quattro has been powering our house for the last 14 years and has never missed a beat. It has had some abuse running two washing machines at once and even arc welder. The over temp light has been on and the overload light as well but it never cut out. The only time it’s shut down was when I was doing some wiring in the house and I shorted something. There was barely a spark and the Quattro beat the MCB to the punch. Asking the question which to choose, I wouldn’t hesitate.

Great information. We're building a 3.6kw system expressly for running a Mini-split in the garage, and charging our Ford Lightning. All this is preparation and testing for a move to an off grid location in central america, and we wanted to test some systems prior. I've been running an Epever 80amp charge controller running an off-grid art studio with 1200 watts of used panels, with a 9k BTU, 20 SEER mini-split, and it's a little underpaneled, and under-batteried, so we've been experimenting with optimizing the output with solar tracking, and input and charging optimization. A lot of people have sworn by the Victron, so I gave in and picked up a 100/50, a Cerbo-S GX, and a smart shunt. So far, I'm underwhelmed. The PV input has been less than the Epever, on days that there were more sun than the days I've run the Epever. The smartshunt software doesn't seem to display the data as clearly as the wifi app and cloud page that Epever provides, and all of this for around, twice as much for the Victron. The Cerbo connections, require another purchase and are flimsy and connect precariously. So, instead of going with a multiplus, we're going to re-purpose the Epever for the 3600 watt array and garage A/C. The lynx system is nice, and a great idea. I've often wished that bus bar makers would provide better protective covers, and the multi-outputs/fuses, are genius. I wouldn't say we're not going to get the multiplus, as I'm sensing it's going to be difficult to get ahold of one of the new Epever Inverter/chargers as I don't think they are sold in the U.S.
@AdamDeLayDIY
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
What do you think of your Ford Lightning? I've heard of a lot of mixed reviews. I guess I've never dealt with the Epever system before so I really can't compare to it. I am surprised though that you're seeing issues with the charge controller. The only thing I can think of is that the charge controller may be undersized for the array you're trying to use? What's the max VOC and Imp of the array? What information does the Epever provide that the shunt doesn't provide? Ultimately, if you've got something that works well for you, there's probably not much reason to change it up. :D Since you're looking to move though, it seems very wise to consider what hardware can you get in your new location. Good luck!

To your last point about taking the loads from 85% to 100%. Is there a reason why you don't just use the Victron PowerAssist function with your AC-in to pass through the Grid AC if needed? Most likely that would be quite rare occurrence and with 95-99% of your annual energy would still be inverted IF the PV+Battery setup is sufficient sized. My point is, just invest in PV+Bat and not worry about the Inverting capability by adding more inverters in parallel. PA can handle up to 70A pass though which is much more economical than getting more inverters.
@AdamDeLayDIY
@AdamDeLayDIY Жыл бұрын
It all depends on what your goals are. I would love to take everything off-grid and only use the grid power as a complete backup. I actually have the system configured how you suggest right now, but I don't have all my loads routed through the inverter. I would need more battery capacity otherwise one cake my wife bakes would drain my batteries... or a load of wash plus having the dryer run at the same time... :D I guess it all comes down to whether or not you want to have to micro-manage your loads. We haven't had to do that so far and if I can figure out how to have all my loads on solar without having to do that (even if it costs more), that would be ideal.

@AdamDeLay07 None of the things are that good. Looked into outback, midnight, renogy, other off-brands. They all have deficits. But the biggest problem I see with victron, that's not true about the others is unlike others Victron has no customer/tech support in the US. They have a sales network they rely on for technical support who are clueless. Maybe overseas, sales is technically savy and they think it's true in the US. Idk. But Victron customer support in the US doesn't exist -- smoke and mirrors, at best. I would estimate for victron the US is about $5 to $10 billion. And there answer for technical support is a customer forum and KZbin. The other is they are extremely thin skinned. Say one thing about them that's anything other than a glowing review and they will dump on you like a ton of bricks. There is golden opportunity for a US company to eat Victron's lunch, if they put out a good package. My hope is that Bouge or one of the other brands steps in quick. I'm ready to tell my customers, I've got something better than victron. And for the past 3 or so years, with all the KZbinr only hyping victron, I got to give my customers what KZbinrs are telling them to use.

I was seriously thinking of getting this Victron system. However, after reviewing the Lux Power EG4 18k and the Fortress Power true 12k I am going with EG4 18K. So much easier to setup and use. and the software is terrific. and the whole thing is only $5,600. This is a real 12 kilowatt system and it will load balance each of the legs up to 8 kilowatts on one leg.

For context, the 18k is super new and wasn't an option for most with the 6500s. If I were buying today instead of a year ago, I'd probably make the same choice just to make life easier than dealing with wiring two inverters. And unfortunately I went through a reseller so i don't get perks from Signature Solar. I didn't get a chargeverter for free and I can't take advantage of the 18k discount for 6500 owners :(. I went through a reseller so I could have a payment plan. I won't do that again because I feel like a second class citizen/customer.

Yeah when I tried to use Victron Connect, it kept trying to reconnect. It never really allowed me to do anything. So I did some more digging and apparently this time I was able to successfully connect to the multiplus using VC. I do see there's actually a lot more details you can change there. Thanks Lee! The 450/100 overview should be coming up within the next few videos. The fact that the seasons are changing so quickly here in MI make it hard to tell how much of an improvement the 450/100 is over the mppts in the 6500s because of the wonky weather we're having. I did go back though my SA logs to one of the last sunny days recorded before the 6500s came down and then I compared that data to the early days of the 450/100. I can see that the 450/100 start producing power earlier than the 6500s did. Not a whole lot, but still earlier. I would imagine if you had your panels in a clear field (or roof) with no obstructions you would see a big jump right away. Full sun doesn't hit my first set of panels till after 0700.

The slower response of the screen is due to the software. It’s not better when you view it over wifi. You really could use the inverters AC input instead as an output and power everything in your home when the sun shines and let your batteries supply the excess needed during clouds and at night. Then when your battery hits LVD the grid simply supplies the main panel as usual

@@AdamDeLayDIY yeah I guess ESS is what victron calls it. For quite a while I have been doing exactly that with cheapo grid tie inverters that use batteries. To me it’s the easier way to set things up. Most only need a few very essentials loads moved to be powered by the inverters AC output for the very rare power outages

The VRM really doesn't allow much "programming" of the MultiPlus other than setting the max AC IN and changing the mode. Now the Victron Connect app has been updated in the last year to allow you to make most configuration changes if your device is plugged directly into the MP using the Mk3 to USB device.

Never use a shunt if you go that far in building such a system, use a well known BMS for your battery. The BMS then delivers all the data needed and controls the inverters and MPPTs with DVCC etc. It saves money, makes the installation more easy, etc. If you go this far on an installation using a shunt like this for the batteries is a limiting factor from my point of view and not helpful. The BMS helps so much to have the control over the battery. Everything will be way simpler also from a configuration point of view as the BMS controls the charging and discharging. It's like you have built a Ferrari but are using a VW Bug steering wheel. :-) Will it work, yes potentially but is it up to the task? No. If you invest that amount of money go the extra mile and use a good BMS. With my 3-phase installation I use the BMS of the Pylontech batteries and use DVCC to limit charging power etc. The MPPTs are also externally controlled by the BMS which is with a big array important. If your shunt data is wrong you can overcharge your batteries.

A well calibrated shunt is gonna be much more accurate than a lot of the BMSs out there. I have JK BMSs and the SOC calculation in those is off in my case.

Is this for split phase in the US? That unit sounds like a beast. I would imagine this pair would run it, assuming we're talking about split phase in the US. Running load per inverter would only be 2250W which is ultimately not much for these inverters. Battery and solar capacity would have to be determined based on how much power this mitsubishi uses in a 24 hour period. You could then figure out how many kWh of storage you would need.

There is no perfect system for all people…I think your lucky to have such a wonderful system..I have a similar but a little smaller Victron system and I have things I don’t prefer about mine…i totally get it… But… Adaptation is the operative word..to its best use ,for you. If one has a true “10” gf that was sweet as hell , talented and had money…,,!! Now and then she’s still Gona wake up and do somthing that don’t sit well with ya… It’s the way it goes.. I never have been a fan of the lynx set up…( it’s size makes it great for mobile situation ) but not for a land based system…there are other Victron options. I built a component expanded version of the Victron lynx that has all the stuff you say your lacking… it’s waaaay more expensive but it’s waaay more stout and took a lot more work , but it’s perfect for what “I need” ..But the next guy may want a tweaks I don’t have… I’m not sure perfection is attainable . But by golly , I like your Blue system…even if it wakes up in the morning sometimes with an attitude.. Haa…. Good vid… Jim.

You really need to configure the ESS system, it has been a wonderful addition to the system. Keep in mind I use the grid as a UPS in case my solar or battery is not enough to run my studio. Or about 500-600 watts 24/7 right now. My goal is to do the entire studio including mini-split or about 3000 watts should do it. Some days when I do labs-testing my rack can really pull the amps, been very happy with my purchase of Victron as well. Your videos are honest and I really appreciate that. Yeah I wish that Victron would have a way to adjust the shunt voltage. I've heard of countless people reporting the issue. I'm guessing that's why a lot tend to use the Smart Shunt instead of the Lynx Shunt. It looks great and keeps things really tidy, but could be improved upon.

All the items you are complaining about is avaliable on the Victron website or with questions to their eMail prior to purchasing their product. And 95% of the world is on a "Windows Machine" that is why it is that way. Maybe you should wait until you have used any system for over a year before you try to do an honest review with stats. Maybe you should have bought 2 Quatro 10K units and not have to worry about the lack of power for your 100% loads.
