Excellent video. Solar installer gave me a quote with AP Systems DS3 microinverters. They offer optional AP Storage Battery system. It can support several battery suppliers, can prioritize internal consumption, avoid peak demand rates import while maximizing output, critical loads backup,.. It can support 20kWh but unfortunately just only 5kVA of power.

I enjoy your videos. They really help me understand the technology. You've mentioned the use of a generator in this and other videos. What is the smallest generator that you would recommend assuming that it would only recharge the batteries and all of my power use would come from the batteries? It would be helpful to know the charging rate & time and if the battery can charge while being used. Assume the 20 kWh capacity. Thanks!

I'd say there is no minimum size on generator but know that if you size your battery to 19.9 kwhs capacity, a 5 kw generator would take 4 hours to completely recharge the battery from nearly empty. I think the more fascinating option is perhaps using an EV to recharge/extend the EP Cube with the option of a bi-directional charger. Feasibly, you could tap your EV battery and give it's much larger battery opportunity to power your home for days and even could run back to a grid-up EV charger to replenish your EV and then return for more days of energy use at the home.

We live in a year-round senior community attached to an RV park in Canada. Our home is a park-model double-wide manufactured home with a 50-amp, 120/240-volt power supply that we connect to the grid with a plug-in. I am thinking we could simply install the EP Cube system outside of our home connected directly to the grid with the plug we currently use for connecting to the grid on the "grid" side of the EP Cube Gateway then wire the EP Cube directly to the 50-amp, 120/240-volt panel inside our home to "load" side of the EP Cube. We cannot push power back to the grid since we only have a private sub-meter so that option would need to be disabled. We intend to install solar panels on the roof of our home since we have good sun exposure on the east and west sides of the roof for charging the batteries and use the batteries and/or grid to power our home when the sun goes down and have the batteries as a UPS in case of power outages. Does this make sense?

Thanks for the video . I think it would be good to distinguish between Powerwall+ w the 7.6kw continuous output and which has the solar pv inverter unit on top. Also, it is designed only for new solar systems and not retrofit or microinverter systems; VS the Powerwall 2 with 5kW continuous output and which works for retrofit or new solar, AND solar w central inverter or microinverters.

Great video. I’m happy to see all the new storage options coming online these days. I think Tesla should be docked -2 X Factor points for the way they conduct business. They make great hardware (PowerWall, EVs) but their service and internal installation network is literally the worst in the industry. People should be made aware that horrible customer service and communication should be expected after market should any issues ever arise.

Well... Im pretty sure you can tell us the price for the equipment, at least by country. In Canada, the Tesla will cost ~$9.5k for 1 battery, ~$1.5k for the Gateway & ~$700 for delivery (YMMV). Installation is local economy specific.

Presumably the wiring needs to be somehow flexibly installed, so that it can just be lifted up, rather than having to rewire the whole shebang?

If you are planning to add battery modules just install your gateway higher at the start. Then you can add batteries to the tower without rewiring anything.

Wait.... You didnt explain the "hybrid" functionality well. Okay, sure, I can skip the usual inverter and feed the EP Cube DC direct from the panels, but does that mean the EP Cube acts as a traditional string inverter? Seems so, which means sucks. Since Enphase performs the inversion at the panel, it would connect AC to the EP Cube gateway, which then converts it to DC for storage. So what's the point again? But can the EP Cube connect to SolarEdge's Power Optimizer and leverage that (without SE's inverter, ergo save on the cost for the SE inverter)? If not, then again, what's the point of being a "hybrid" system?

As a General rule, the system is Expandable. As the EP cube up to support 6 parallel, meaning massive capacity and output power. LG prime+ support 2 parallel Tesla power wall support 10 parallel

With the EP Cube mentioned in video take as an example, it offers max.6 in parallel, means there are 6 interfaces. Currents from PV system go through components final reach all 6 pcs by inner interfaces. How long it takes depends on your pv output power. Hope of helping you to a certain extent.

Most of the microinverters are undersized and they throttle your panels right at the source. Very disappointing results when compared to a string inverter with optimizers.
