Fantastic sounding guitar. I love Collings acoustics. My D1A varnish is one of the best mahogany guitars I’ve played.

I’ve owned some great guitars over the years, not a lot, but the ones I’ve had were very nice, including a long owned, aged Brazilian Ronnie Griffin custom that I sold fairly recently to Allan Shadd. Been an avid listener of yours for around 3 years. Enjoy your channel! This Collings has the sound I like. Clarity, Volume, pop, tone, and a coarse voice that seems to sizzle. I own two Collings now. One hog and one Indian. The 2019 D1 baked top is phenomenal in every way. Keeper. The 08 D2H-SB is a keeper. I have a mint 2000 D-28 LSV with Adi. Meh, Sounds great-for a Martin. From listening to this Collings and comparing it to many of your others, including the recent Henderson(I’m a big fan of his and have been to his shop many times)I’d say this guitar is quite the find. I’d be interested, but I’d guess the Adi plus varnish finish would price it outta my range. But I may give the Stevens dude a call anyway. You say he likes RW, huh. I’m wondering if he’d be interested in a trade for the LSV….

@@ranren man I sure do appreciate you taking the time to give these things a listen. Yeah, Brad is a traitor, he’s always interested in hearing about anything! This is a great guitar, very very open and after I played it for about 30 minutes, I was astounded at the difference. I would hate to hear it if it was played every day.

Enjoyed meeting Brad the other day. Super great fellow. That's a nice guitar, wonder why Collings got away from varnish finish. EE
@ShawnBrockMusic5 ай бұрын
@@luvbgrass it was sure fun to get to hang around, I sure hope it won’t be the last time. I think they got away from varnish, just because it is a lot more tedious to apply, and very difficult to repair if something goes wrong during the finishing process. I would venture to say it was too costly on time.

@@ShawnBrockMusic I’m sure you’re right Shawn. I know varnish sounds good. And yes buddy, I hope we get to pick together again sometime. You’ll just have to lay back a little and not make me want to bust up my instruments. 🤣😁

This one shines at 14.41 mark. I don't know what it is, but it stole me. While I love deep bass, (and "punch") guitars that can handle the mids without getting tonally cringey are also on my radar. This one competes with the last one I commented on. The race is on... (my guitars are loving this insanely weird humidity right now BTW lol)

oh and what mics are you using. I think you told me that already, but I'm suffering from Covid dementia. You have one pointed into the sound hole , which some say is forbidden, but it actually works.

Shawn, I played a Collings D1AV (Varnish) back in 2009 at Elderly Instruments in Lansing, Mi and was blown away at the tone, sound.The D1AV is much warmer than a typical Collings and very close to a Martin tonal palette. .I remember it was a 2009 and priced at $4350. That one in your video is a monster....Great playing as usual.. What is the name of that last song you played? It is a great tune.
@ShawnBrockMusic5 ай бұрын
@@billdedrick1914 hey Bill, man I always enjoy it when you share these types of stories. Sometimes I think I’m the only one who reminisces and remembers prices from years ago lol. $4300 would’ve been a great price for sure! The song at the end is Sweet Hour of Prayer.

That's a really punchy sounding guitar. I think it's that Adirondack top that provides that desirable additional headroom. I own a few Collings Guitars with Adirondack tops and they are loud and tonally complex instruments.
