Why 1971?

This panda is one of the rare few I've seen (including mine) that has a little quirk on the hour hand. At the base of the hour hand, there's a short section of bare metal. Most have black paint right to the end. Do you know why they're different, is it just a manufacturing QC thing or were they meant to be like that?

On original hour/minute hands, the black paint only goes to the edge of the mount point. If they are not unpainted, they are fake.

@@BlairWatchProject I should have clarified a bit more - the unpainted section is a mm or two in length on the shaft of the hour hand. The one's I've seen like this are always on the hour hand only.

Not sure what you mean. The sub dials are minute recording and hour recording up to 12.
