I’ve been running A5 for about 7-8 years now and I can say it’s an improvement over the standard carbine buffer systems. Rifle basically cycles like it has a rifle type buffer system with the option for collapsing stocks. If you can’t find a BCM intermediate buffer system or a Vltor A5 buffer system you can run a POF 7-position anti tilt buffer tube for 308’s, a Vltor A5 buffer, and a Sprinco green spring

One correction to the video: buffer weight doesn't push the bolt harder into battery. It's entirely the spring force that determines how hard a bolt will be pushed forward. The buffer weight determines how *fast*--not how *hard*. Heavier buffer is slower than light, but both will have the same force behind them because that's 100% on the spring.
@muddyhotdog4103
@muddyhotdog4103 2 жыл бұрын
Kinda, I dunno tho.. The spring pushing the momentum of a heavier buffer or carrier gives more inertia to help overcome picking up a cartridge and chambering it. Ie yes the spring is giving it it's initial force, but something heavier in motion is harder to stop. This is why going to lightened bcgs and buffers can result in more failures to chamber after fully extracting, especially once really dirty and friction kicks in (it can also be from outrunning the mag spring too, but I'm talking all things tuned in that respect). Edit- I'm no expert in physics here lol, I'm proly speculating over semantics in some regard.
@G5Hohn
@G5Hohn 2 жыл бұрын
@@muddyhotdog4103 you’d be correct but you’re forgetting that the heavier buffer is also slower on the close. I’ll spare you the physics math, but it works out that the energy available to strip a round is the same regardless of buffer weight because a buffer that 2x the weight has half the acceleration and thus is half the speed at any point on bolt closure. Which means the momentum is the same. If you want more force to strip a round, the only way is more spring force.
@KeepTheGates
@KeepTheGates Жыл бұрын
I don't think this is correct at all.
@Brett235
@Brett235 11 ай бұрын
If you throw a pingpong ball it's not going to hit very hard or go nearly as far as a baseball. The heavier the object being pushed will always go further faster and hit the target harder especially if the throwing mechanism is longer and under more tension when released. Longer spring under more tension pushing a heavier buffer will cause the bolt to hit harder making the bcg and the rifle more reliable. It's just physics.
@G5Hohn
@G5Hohn 11 ай бұрын
@@Brett235 Right, but the spring isn't throwing. Unlike a human arm, the spring will launch something twice as heavy at only half the speed. Springs store energy, and they store the same energy regardless of buffer weight. The amount of energy stored is the spring rate times the compression distance. Since we always compress the spring the same amount, the only way to store more energy is go to a stiffer spring. But keeping the spring constant, the stored energy is always the same. And the force the spring exerts is the same. Since F=MA, any increase in weight creates a proportional decrease in acceleration. So going twice as heavy on buffer causes it to be half as quick in acceleration. Which means that, at every point in the closing stroke, the 2x heavier buffer is half the speed. It's perhaps not intuitive, but it is correct.

It’s all a matter of differential forces. All a gimmick for a better feel. Different buffer lengths and weights coupled with different spring lengths and tensions. What you don’t see being produced is a truly better system that uses progressive rate spring coils like your car has. I had to coil my own to create one. I’d say a 30% recoil reduction.

DAP 1776 sprinco springs have a much better reputation. Sprinco springs are made from chrome silicon, they have been known to last hundreds of thousands of rounds without showing wear. Sprinco provide a range of springs to suit different needs while the super 42 you only have one spring option soo you just have to Hope it’s right for your gun. The super 42 also has a smaller inside spring diameter therefore it requires a proprietary buffer. In my opinion if your gun runs with the super 42 then it’s fine. But I wouldn’t buy one when sprinco is an option. Some people also like the tubbs flat wire springs but I don’t really have a strong educated opinion on those so do your own research.

In going over some old discussions from a forum, it seems like sprinco's green spring, while good, has almost excessive energy sending the BCG and buffer back home, possibly causing the nose of the gun to dip. At the very least, the stiffer sprinco spring may reduce the amount of felt force to the back of the receiver extention. Allegedly, the vltor A5 spring is a little more balanced, using less force to beat the BCG back into battery. Wondering if anyone can confirm this.

How well does a buffer work, if the buffer does not get warm or hot? my a5-2 buffer weight has a small rattle not as much as a regular weight could it be from the spring inside the weight?

Anybody know the spring constants of the rifle and carbine springs? (spring length itself is meaningless without knowing the spring constant)

How how premature are we talking about on gas ring life? Iv got a bolt with probably 15k rounds on in still passes the good to go test and functions. I know it's been stated That gas ring life is around 6k but if you over buffer then what are we talking?

Sounds like this system aids in reliability especially suppressed? I really want one of your rifles. How would the vltor compare to something like the kynshot hydraulic buffer in rifle length or is it even worth messing with?

Appreciate the info! Will the A5 buffer/rifle spring fit in a carbine buffer tube? Would you expect issues?
