Thanks Andy. It's a testament to the Old bridge builders. Darley Bridge copes with so many heavy lorries it was in no way designed for.

That was another enjoyable film! Darley Bridge looks tranquil and the views from your walk around the countryside and Oker Hill looks breath-taking as usual; nice to see Riber Castle dominating the landscape again, and Snitterton and Wemsley sound like great places. Your friends' recommendations also sounded great, especially the mine you discovered at the end. Your new musical soundtrack sounds great too, and the facts about the closed Red Lion Inn were interesting. Looking forward to more films from you!

That looks another great walk. I didn't know there was another Wensleydale! I live near the Yorkshire one and I'm going there next week for a visit and a walk with my dog. It was through my friend at Redmire that I started watching The Solitary Rambler.

Not as big or as famous as the certain other Wensleydale of course, but it's still a pretty one. Many thanks for commenting and for watching 👍

Nice Video Patrick. Before moving to Matlock in the late 70’s, i lived on Saint Mary’s view at the top of Oaker. My great grandparents live across the road and my grandparents lived across the road from the Red Lion pub in Wensley. Goerge Bellfield used to own the pub back then and my grandad would take me there on a Saturday night, he would have a pint of “black n tan” and I would have a glass of milk and we would share a bag of pork scratchings Fond memories. ❤️🤘
@solitaryrambler9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words Jonnie and for taking the time to watch. Glad you enjoyed the video. I never made it to the Red Lion in Wensley before it closed sadly, but I heard several others talk about the black and tan drinks. All the best 👍

Another fab local walk there Patrick. Darley Dale is a lovely place isn’t it? I played cricket on that ground a few years ago and stopped at the Square and Compass for a post match beer. So many fab walks in the area. Thanks for the book recommendation too. I might take a look at that myself. Take care 🙂
@solitaryrambler3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Anthony, yes Darley Dale is pretty ok I'd say. Ah so you played cricket there, ideal place for a post match beer then. I've put a link to the book on Amazon in the description below the video. Thanks as always, Cheers, Patrick 👍

What a fabulous film of your walk around my old stomping ground. I grew up in Wensley and still have ties in the area. All the places you showed were part of my childhood play ground and will always feel very privileged to have called it home. I went to South Darley Primary school and had a teacher called Mrs Leach, I wonder if she was one of your relatives? Judy

That was an interesting walk Patrick. Up, down, in, out, woodland, pub and so much more. What I liked is the snippet about your former Colleague who co wrote the book. It gave us a peak into your connections up there. You know the walker community to - and ha those who like pubs. Lovely undulating walk. Good going Patrick. All the best for the week ahead. Mark
@solitaryrambler3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark, yes there was indeed a lot of up and down in this one. Fascinating pub, I always remember local people telling about the landlord selling customers a pint of milk rather than beer! Martin is a great guy and has been involved in writing more Peak District walking books too, all of them involving pub stops! Yes, he, other work colleagues and myself took a Friday off work occasionally and did a few group walks. Thanks for watching and commenting Mark. Have a great week too. Cheers, Patrick 👍

Im not familiar with Darley Bridge but it looked like a great walk. Music melodic and lovely arrangement. I must admit I have problems when talking with mask on. Mmmmmm!!! A man of many talents - impressive. The Bentley Brook mill apartment on Lumsdale road, with the waterfall outside the window... you must have taken it on not long after we viewed it. Beautiful place - appalling parking problems - we had to keep looking. Cheers Patrick - excellent work - even without the shadowy Bob Morgan.
