Join me on a rainy winter camp in a very large hot tent. I don’t normally camp this close to my car so I took full advantage of the proximity and brought along quite a few extra luxurious on this trip. Needless to say, it was a very relaxing and comfortable camp. I hope you enjoy the video! If you have any questions or comments please leave them down below.

Absolutely superb mate. I almost fell asleep watching this - in a good way! Sheer relaxation with the sound of the rain on the fly and the stove burning away. Can imagine just how cosy it felt - the definition of 'Hygge' right there. Quality as always mate - thanks for sharing and I look forward to your next video! ATB, Chris

Thanks man! Having all those extra luxuries with me on this camp, with a warm fire AND the sound of rain was pretty great! Maximum relaxation. A nice change of pace from getting battered by the wind on a mountain 😂. All the best buddy. Hope you have a nice weekend!

Having a coffee over breakfast here in Aus, great viewing. Inwas a hiker long before inhad a family, so we did car camping when the kids were very young and introduced them to hiking, bird watching etc. theyre now adults and my youngest bloke has just done cape york, and is now in Western Australia. So mate, your hiking/car camping will live with your family forever… (i am beginnkng to wonder if youre actually allowed in the house 🤣)

🤣 only if I behave! My kids definitely enjoy camping a bit more than my wife but we always seem to have a good time when we go. Love Australia. Before my wife and I were married I went to visit her while she was studying abroad in Sydney. While I was visiting I convinced her to camp on Whitsunday Island for a couple nights. Such an incredible trip! Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Enjoy your day!

I already get the feeling that yours is a genuine wild camping channel unlike some of the other bullshit channels that are getting there free nortents. 😂👍 Wasn’t my intention to become a cooking channel but I am really glad you’re enjoying the cooking parts of the video. I know many come just to see a camp so it makes me happy to hear the cooking stuff isn’t boring. I really enjoyed those wings! I actually made them again for my wife and kids at home only two days later because I was so happy with them 🤣. I did see some of the early videos on the new silnylon version of the Vern 1 that you’re referring to. I understand people being excited for a tent, but I was definitely disappointed to hear so many bold claims when it hasn’t even been properly tested yet. I think it will definitely be a bit better suited for the conditions here in the UK than the PC version so I will be getting it to test out as well. However, I am a little concerned to see they are shipping tubes of seam sealant with the tent. I am hoping it is just a courtesy and that you don’t actually need to use (it doesn’t inspire confidence). Apparently they are using the same flat fell seam sewing technique that Hilleberg uses and I have never had to fully seam seal a new Hilleberg so I will not be seam sealing the new Vern. It’s definitely cheaper than a Hilleberg but it’s also not handmade like a Hilleberg. Like anything only time will tell if it’s actually any good. Gotta say British weather is probably one of the best places to test a tent though 😂. Really appreciate the comment. Hope you have a nice weekend!

@@GoingSoloOutdoors Todd thanks for your quick and full reply. I will look forward to your initial impression of the said tent (I hope you also get a free one?). But nobody can do a proper review until they have used it for a while in all types of weather. I think you can guess at the channel I was referring too! He doesn't know the difference between a first impression and a proper review. 😉
@GoingSoloOutdoors
@GoingSoloOutdoors 3 ай бұрын
@Johnnygee10 I completely agree. I don’t do review videos but if I did. I think you would need to at least use the gear for probably an entire year in all conditions before I could give it a proper full review. Especially if it’s a four season tent. I mean we’re coming to the end of winter here so I doubt anyone’s even going to get to pitch this tent in the snow. And some four season tents are not even usable in the summer because they don’t have enough ventilation. These are all things I would expect a review video to have. I typically try not to even talk about the gear all that much in my videos but I do love gear so I definitely share any thoughts I may have while out camping. After seeing some of those first videos that came out I actually contacted Nortent. They had said in the comment section of my Vern 1 PC camp that they’d like to see me use the updated version when it comes out. To be honest, I was a bit surprised they want me to have a look at it after that video but I suppose that’s good. So they said they would send one. I won’t be doing a review but just using it as I would use any of my other tents. It’s more about the camp and the cooking channel 😂👍. I’m assuming it will keep me dryer compared to my PC version because now it’s a double wall design, but only time will tell 👍.

@@GoingSoloOutdoors Todd Thanks again for your reply to my second comment. What it must be like to compromise your principles and have no integrity for the sake of a free tent and other gear. Still, grateful that in my younger days ie 20 years ago, I got to climb Snowdon in Wales, & did loads of hiking/camping in the Yorkshire Dales, which is a lovely part of England. Yes a dog 🐕 is a great companion, loyal, dogs have an inbuilt perceptory & they know when you’re not fully functional, & compensate for it accordingly with no judgment. Very different from your 'usual' camps, but great to watch nonetheless. It must have been great to have all that space and warmth to move about in in the rain. My wife and I were both very impressed with your 'cooked from scratch' Buffalo Wings too - they looked delicious, and a massive plateful, so you certainly weren't going hungry. We will certainly need to try that recipe at home sometime. As you say potentially a bit messy in a smaller tent though! Great video, thanks... Keep them coming.

Morning from Aus. Thats great you spent time here. The walking is very different here to there. It made me complacent eg we are at about 700m with a few mountains at 1000m and whilst we do get storms and a flicker of snow, its pretty good (just dont walk in bushfire peaks), so when i got to the UK i thought “piece of cake”… then the weather dramatically sets in and if you dont have the right gear its a challenge. Lol. Oh- that solo walk you did over thise “knife edge” peaks was pretty hairy. I certainly couldnt do that on my own

The weather here in the UK has definitely taken some getting used to. You never know what your going to get 😅. It’s actually one of the reasons why I just prefer using my Hilleberg tents now. If the weather turns I can trust them. It probably wasn’t the wisest decision to hike Crib Goch on my own. I was actually really surprised I was able to get the ridge all to myself. But and incredibly beautiful spot!

The only thing missing inside that tent is a flush toilet. How long did it take you to get accustomed to right hand side steering & driving on the wrong side of the road? I'm thinking the same thing you're thinking, "Why didn't I bring one of my Hilleberg tents?" Gotta admit, it's always interesting to see what you're going to fix for your meals. You always cook up some meals that look nutritious, tasty, & filling. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.

🤣👍 if it had a proper toilet I could almost live here. Finding a spot to dig a hole and then getting rained on in the process wasn’t the most comfortable morning trip to the toilet. I do love my Hillebergs and I already have my eye on another for next winter 😅. It’s embarrassing but I just really love their tents. Cooking while at camp is definitely a highlight for me so it’s nice to hear that others find it interesting. It’s always really convenient to cook on a wood stove as well. It’s almost like using the stove at home. Enjoy your comments as always 😀. It’s almost that time of the year to bring the Enan back out!

Gathering big heavy rocks is the FIRST thing I do even B4 I unroll my tent to pitch it. @@GoingSoloOutdoors Look forward to your next camp What do you think of that new vern 1 tent it looks really good?
@GoingSoloOutdoors
@GoingSoloOutdoors 3 ай бұрын
I really like the pole design and the fact that it’s now a double wall tent. I think it will make it a much more versatile tent, especially compared to the PC version that I purchased. I also think it will perform really well in the wind although I don’t think it will be as quiet in the wind as the PC version. But not having to worry about condensation is a big improvement. I will be getting one to checkout. I am not going to make any of the bold claims that I have seen others make so far 🙄. Especially since most have not even had a chance to properly test it in all conditions. But I can’t deny it looks like a very promising competitor to the Soulo. But as you probably already know I LOVE my Hillebergs! The Vern won’t be a handmade like my Hillebergs but if it’s like the PC version I expect the quality to be very good. Only time will tell if it performs well in challenging conditions. But if it does, it may prove to be a cheaper alternative to a Hilleberg. I’m just happy to see more competition because at the end of the day. We the consumers are typically the ones that benefit 👍

It looks like it will be. My only concern is that they are shipping it with a seam sealant. I am hoping this is just a courtesy. They use the same flat fell sewing method as Hilleberg, which is fantastic. It should mean that you don’t need to seam seal the entire tent as I have never had to with any of Hillebergs but it is a mass produced tent so I want to see how good the seams are in person. And I don’t plan on sealing it unless I absolutely have to. I have a feeling it will be fine and if that’s the case it should be a great alternative that’s also going to provide you with a bit more space which is the only thing I wish the Soulo had.

I was definitely impressed. I need to actually lookup the rain totals we received. The road I took to l get out here was underwater by the next day. So much flooding. It would have been nice if we actually got the snow that was originally predicted because I could have pulled it in my pulk or used the canoe as I had originally planned. I’m definitely still excited to use it over the spring and summer with my family. The 360° of mesh panels were the feature I actually liked the most about this tent. It will be nice that the kids can just walk into the tent as well instead of everyone having to crawl into our other tent. Really appreciate the comment. Hope you have a nice weekend!
