The whole album is genius. The first two tracks flow seamlessly into each other, and should be reacted to together. “Silently Falling” has an incredibly great instrumental jam in the middle. Listen to it all. This is a desert island record for me.

Funky funky jazzy prog. I love his warm, buzzing bass style. Jaco took some notes for sure.

Squire and Bruford reunited for this masterpiece of an album with Patrick Moraz and Mel Collins. I have always felt this is a mix of Yes and King Crimson. Please check out Silently Falling from this album for serious Yes vibes! Great Reaction 🥁🎸😎

My bad…you are correct. I think Jackman also helped with the orchestration. This has always been one of my favorite albums. Everyone brought their A game 🍀

The opening track "Hold out your hand" is fantastic, it features Patrick Moraz the keyboardist from Yes's Relayer album on church organ. Recommend you watch the official video, it's superb. Chris was THE main back up vocalist to Jon, as we know their harmonising was so wonderful & unique. Cheers

Sorry, but the organ is not played by Moraz on “HOYH.” It is played by Barry Rose, Squire’s music teacher and choir master in grade school. Squire asked him to play on the record as a way of thanking him for steering Squire towards a career in music. It was recorded in the church that Squire attended as a youth, and where he once sang in the choir.

I remember talking to a girl on the phone while I was listening to this song and she thought I was sooooooooooooooo sophisticated. Especially during the sax solo at the end. You're picking a lot of the finest stuff that was coming out at that time. YES was definitely at the top of the heap at that time. It's kind of nice to know you find this stuff relatable.

One of the highlight of Yes's live shows was Chris Squire's performance of "The Fish", which is the song from "Fragile" where all of the instrumentation (besides percussion) is EIGHT overdubbed bass parts. So as others have mentioned, he is "the Fish", and without Yes he is "Fish Out Of Water". But yes, an amazing solo record. You can hear every element that made him such an essential part of the Yes sound.

Loved the 'Olias' reaction. Nice to see you get to this one, I love this album! Yes's first drummer, Bill Bruford on this album as well. Only seven tracks on it. Just go for it, Pope. You know it'll be good.

I would respectfully make one request to you....to listen to another amazing British band I grew up with back in the 70s (in my teens), That band is Van der Graf Generator (Usually abbreviated as VDGG). Try any of the albums, your choice, but as a British student going to see Yes, Genisis, ELP, and Gentle Giant, and VDGG any time I could I always loved this band. Thanks for liking our British Prog Rock mate.

I believe that with Yes Chris was known as The Fish. So in playing a solo album without the water of Yes, he was a Fish out of water. I don’t know if it’s true but it sounds good. Lol
@markdrechsler56602 жыл бұрын
It’s true. He was called the Fish because he took long baths, to the irritation of the other band members when they were young and touring in a van, and sharing a hotel room.

"Fish Out Of Water" is more or less a concept album. If you have time, listen to the album in one go. It's a lot nicer to immerse yourself in the atmosphere. For me, "Fish Out Of Water" wasn't love at first sight, but the more I've listened to it, the more I've felt just how good it is. It's now one of my absolute favorite albums.

I know what you mean about needing time for this entire work. There was a time when it was so difficult to understand what Bruford was doing. When I finally got that, I decided that this album is the best Bruford I've ever heard, though I haven't heard everything.

Got this in the bargain bin back in the 70's, for $3 or was it $2? I guess someone took a shot back then because of the cover maybe, heard it and didn't like it. Their loss ended up being my win! Any real Yes fan back then loved this album. Glad I kept the album after all these years.
