You actually entered one of the major illegal settlement in the city called "Kampung Sembulan". You can see from the road sign. They are mostly "non-Malaysian" but they all born here. Still, foreign kids won't automatically become Malaysian with citizenship. Look at all the rubbish all over the village? Those are not collected by the cityhall because they built houses either on government or people lands. So they are not eligible to pay housing assessment fees for rubbish collection, road pavement, water and electricity supply in general. Many utilities are tapped illegally. The river there used to be full of rubbish dumped by them. Sabah has a very serious illegal immigrant issue since decades ago. Almost half of the 3.9 million population (Wikipedia) are them located at the East Coast of Sabah. You can tell the landscape is quite different compare to the East and West of Sabah. Ben, try to get yourself an authentic Dayak tattoo when you are in Sarawak. You can google them. Since you are a tattoo artist. Bring a piece of Borneo art with you back to NY !!

@@byteme9718 Malaysian Borneo territories are different than Peninsula. They are not Malay. All lands in Sabah without titles are belong to State Government. Non Bumi can never apply for state land to be granted. There is no Freehold instead of 999 Years. Instead of Strata Title as commonly use, Subsidiary Title is an official term under Sabah Land Ordinance. We do commonly have century old land titles under British North Borneo which still recognize today until they get convert or subdivide with new title to be issued. That area occupied by them is supposed to be Town Lease which is the most high land value within the city center. They didn't exisit in large number pouring in started in early 80s during Project IC.

This shows that the government failed to adjust its immigration and resource management rules to govern the land practically. If you need migrant workers as cheap human resource, you need to allocate proper living area with descent living conditions as part of the packages and rules, you also need to document them properly so that they can be administered properly. How can this problem be left for years that these illegal migrants can have second or even third undocumented generations? What has the government been doing? sleeping? Is Sabah government this poor that they have no resources to administer this? or all the money has gone to federal government. I mean this is not a new issue. It has been around for decades.

@@mikecsj1 what your concern has been identified by Sabahan ages ago. This was a political move. Once the back door wide opened, the rest were history. Themselves also don't want to leave and claimed themselves as "Malaysian" just like video mentioned. Sending thousand back, come back thousand two. This is what happened. @@benfishermin It's going to be super crowded on the national day parade, but, could worth the content for a video, normally foreign vloggers get big views, you just have to stay ahead of the crowds by being super early. Try your best. You don't want to miss the chance. 😀

@@benfishermin Yes, I think so too, I think the total wasn't properly added up. I heard a bit of Tagalog by few of the kids, but it wasn't clear. There are lots of Filipinos illegal immigrants in Sabah. Not only in Sabah, even in KL and around Malaysia, there are millions of illegal immigrants scattered around the country, wanting and trying to have a better life from their own country. 😀

I couldn’t finish watching this. Bad anxiety attack. Please stay safe. Stick to locals. I’m from Kl and used to stay in Sabah for a couple of years. It took me a while to understand the problems sabahans are facing especially with illegals.

Personally I felt very safe here and those people were extremely friendly all around. I wasn’t really thinking about their documentation for something like this. I know there is a huge % of Sabah undocumented and it’s a big problem. But overall I don’t equate Filipinos / Indonesians with being dangerous.

@@benfishermin Of course Filipinos and indonesians aren’t dangerous. Always a joy to visit Philippines and Indonesia. Beautiful countries, friendly and nice people. My auntie is a Filipino but she’s dangerous haha. My daughter’s coach is Filipino. He loves to sing! But I would definitely avoid places where there are many illegals in Sabah. In Kk, is a bit difficult because they are everywhere. I got attacked a few times in public area so I tend to be extra vigilant. Stones were thrown at me when I ignored the kids, I was heavily pregnant then. My Japanese friend got stabbed twice with a Rambo knife at a parking lot, attempted robbery. And there were a lot more scary incidents happened. Glad to know you felt safe. Sabah is a beautiful state. A nice place to retire too. We would go back as often as we could. Sabahans are generally friendly, easy going and hardworking people. Enjoy the rest of your time there.

Perhaps you can get an international driving permit from DMV in the US. Is there someone in the US that can help you to get it and send to you?

Practically all the people you show in this video are Filipino and Indonesian immigrants, mostly undocumented. Quote : Of the 3.9 million population in Sabah, 1.2 million are foreigners with Tawau having the highest number at 180,000, followed by Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu.

not that notorious... as a Dusun man who enjoys the filipinos' and suluk culture, i solo roamed this area for adventure. sometimes i would sit there at their small warung and chit chat with them, exchanging cultural gestures. i advice all Dusun men, to be free and open in your mind, and only then, you are able to enjoy the many cultures on our island of Borneo. It is a loss opportunity, if we are as Dusun men, do not indulge and enjoy the Phillipines / Indonesia / Suluk culture. Be free, and do not be limited by our background ethinicity. Go and enjoy. I met some beautiful tagalog girls there too, in my vagabond journey there. Eat some tagalog and tausug foods. This is how it should be enjoyed.

I do think KK is a very livable place, I could live there just as easily as KL. The upsides to KL for me is the ease of traveling and also the train system.

Ben, they are not Malaysians..if Malaysians they'll keep the village organised and clean, you can see the village in Peninsula Malaysia especially in the Malacca village, their houses are beautiful and clean.. Malacca city was awarded as the most cleanest city in Malaysia recently.. the Malays there especially are particularly strict in cleanliness and neatness of their houses and premises for decades.. Those KK village people mostly are not Sabahan origin..most of them are illegal immigrants but using fake documents.. just take extra care when walking alone there when it's dark..👍

Yea I know, I wrote about this in the video description. Sure it was dirty but the people in this village were some of the friendliest people around!
