I love your style. Please don't be offended by me, as I am a Hoosier too. The Charles C Deam Wilderness is seeing camps closed due to trees being chopped down by campers regularly. Please be cautious of leaving a trace, especially when it comes to the trees. If you hike down to the end of the peninsula along the lake monroe shore line you will see that people have cut down HUGE trees all over the place, large mature trees, just for fire wood. There is no firewood down there and it will be closed soon for a very very long time to recover after it was open to camp on my entire life. While I personally believe people do no wrong by utilizing nature, this area sees soooo much traffic that it simply can not sustain that much bushcraft activity and can only be used for leave no trace recreational backpacking, hiking, fishing, camping, and horse trails. It is Indiana's only established wilderness (no wires, manmade structures, powered lights, or wheels allowed). They even maintain the trails by mule and sled, no wheels even allowed on maintenance crew.

@@troychilds6050 You make some great points and it is well noted-I will do better as I love the area as well and don’t want to ever see it closed. I did my best to use dead or downed wood as much as I possibly could but it makes perfect sense that it cannot handle that much bushcrafting with the amount of traffic the area sees. I too have seen the large trees cut down on the peninsula and it certainly doesn’t look as pristine and untouched with stumps sticking up everywhere. Thanks for commenting and watching.
