Would honestly love to see this and Co-operative card games get a follow up or big vid of some kind, because it's so interesting, but there's so little info about how they play or how they work with the Collectible Card aspect, if they do at all. Always something I wanted to try my hand at making just for fun, but I love hearing about the difficulties etc that come with it!

One of the main benefit I see with solo play in TCG, is to keep you engaged with the game while not having any community to interact with. Would have been helpful when I was living in the countryside.

Magic did a few solo card things a while back during the Theros block. That had a special deck where they had unique cards that they just cast one at time. I got the Hydra, and I think the other two were an army of minotaurs, and the good Xenagos and his satyr minions.

This is sort of irrelevant because it's not an official format, but Judge Tower can be singleplayer! :P
@andrewsparkes88293 жыл бұрын
@@BrazenSolar Any format 'can' be a single-player game (of most card games, tbh). Just goldfish and beat a life total in as few turns as possible. Or create a dice results table, create a nonland deck for the opponent, have them play a 5c land 'from outside of the game' each turn and make a dice results table (1: Cast lowest cmc card if possible, roll again. 2: Cast lowest cmc card, repeat until all lands are tapped. 3: Cast highest possible cmc card. Etc.) and have the opponent attack with all possible creatures each turn. A wellbuilt deck and dice results table can totally function as a 'robotic' opponent! There's even some sites that offer decklists/tables for this, and some card sites have even created their own boxed 'pre-cons' (both opponent-only where you build your own deck to take them down, and opponent'n'player themed dual decks).

@@andrewsparkes8829 Yeah, true. But Judge tower (MTG) is not a game where an opponent is necessary, even a simulated one, I should say.

One thing I really like about Sentinels is how the card-based enemies can be influenced. Some of the dinosaurs in the Insula Primalis environment deck, for example, will attack whichever target on the field has the lowest HP, but don't descriminate between heroes, villains, or even other dinosaurs. They're something you have to keep in check lest they turn on you, but by coordinating your efforts you can make them attack the villain for you.

Solo/ coop really became so demanded thanks to a certain global pandemic. Perhaps that concern of another one popping up will keep the PvE alive I personally love Non Randomised Card Games (such as Fantasy Flights LCGs™) because of the solo aspect. A well designed solo system - like the Marvel Champions one - can be an absolute treat to set up and play

"Slay the Spire" would probably translate very well into a single player physical card game. Main problem i see is "too many pieces". Every type of enemy has it's own deck or you need to reassemble them all the time. Otherwise you would mostly need to rebalance for the fact debuffs involve a bit too much too track and calculate. So i expect a physical version to be a bit more simple with a bunch of room for expansions. For example enemy or boss packs.
@jmurray111010 ай бұрын
I would think the rogue like randomness could be an issue Whine you can generally assume boss and elite options based on the level other like the enemy encounter’s shop stock and ? room options would likely ge hard to keep track of or even assign since you would need multiple interlocking paths available at all times

i think a good example of the co-op tcg mode is something like VS Horde in magic, which is honestly really fun

Really cool minisode, solo play always seems like it could be a cool idea, but it either is too simple or is so complex you should have made a videogame.
