Greetings Jacqueline, It was nice to see a sailor using their safety gear on deck and being careful. Also, it is nice to see a lady sailor of my "mature and experienced age" sailing solo. Bravo. One day I will be joining you. But for now, I have an obligation of being a caregiver to my parents, so I am a ground for awhile. I will live through your sailing adventures. Happy Sailing ⛵

Dear Jacquelin, you are simply unique. Even during the preparations for the seminar, when I met you for the first time, I sensed that you were planning something big. But the way you are realizing it is simply amazing. I wish you continued success in making all your dreams come true. Good luck and stay healthy.

I do have one more question: why are you sailing with the autohelm and not with a Pacific in these conditions? And why don't you take the pendulum rudder up? It would have a less negative effect on the main rudder.
@jurgentrinkwald80992 ай бұрын
Deal Jacquelin, sometimes ist looks quite dangerous. Is there a reason, why you are not using a rollfock? Best regards from Germany. Jürgen
@sailingloveworkx2 ай бұрын
Hi Thomas. Yes I remember meeting in The Netherlands back then. I bought a stroboscope light thanks to your tip and even used it during this crossing to signal the fishingboats that I was sailing close to them.
@sailingloveworkx2 ай бұрын
Hi Thomas. I did sail with both during this crossing. In big winds I sailed with the Windpilot Pacific and it did a wonderful job. There where also times that I used the Autohelm instead. Because of light winds, sail changes or if I needed to have a specific course. Getting the pendulum rudder up at the speed I am sailing with is next to impossible. But I get your point. Thanks!
@sailingloveworkx2 ай бұрын
@jurgentrinkwald8099 Hi Jürgen. Yes sometimes it is dangerous or like with the squall I wasn't able to change the sails anymore, because the wind just hit me. I am nog using a rollfock because the boat sails better without it and sometimes you can have problems with furling it in. There are moments that I wish I had one. Maybe if I can find a good sponsor I will do it. Thanks!

I was fascinated watching you working the foredeck, flaking, rolling and bagging the genoa. I admire your energy. I have been sailing under junk rig for a decade or so, and watching you work the deck convinced me I don't want to return to bermudan rig. Still, you were the boss! Much admiration.

Wow - hanked-on headsails, halyards at the mast, and a proper tiller - perfect. This is real sailing! The only thing I might suggest, which you may already well have covered, is to rig a down-haul for the jib in case you get surprised by a fresh breeze. Speaking as another 27' solo sailor in a previous life, it's nice to have some leverage to get the headsail down in a hurry if need be. Safe travels, and subscribed.

In a Morgan Out Island 41’ center cockpit. Then in ‘78-right after high school joined the USCG (Coast Guard, 78-98) 20 year career w/7 yrs 4 mos sea duty on 4 diff ships. I miss a clear dark moonless night at sea! So Dark. Best videos from you! Just the sounds - Awesome 👏 & watching you maneuver about safely! No weird music. Greatly appreciate your work. There are cons and pros both with a hang on headsail or with a furling system. But when I see you as a solo sailor circumnavigating struggling on the fordeck snd putting your self in unnecessary danger with the hang on headsail, I wonder why you didn't prioritize to invest on a furling system 🙄 That is one of my top priorities investment on my boat as a solo sailor. I want to believe that Holly must be very happy doing the upgrade with the new furling system. For a solo sailor it is actually a crucial, essential and a safety feature on the boat. In terms of performance it might not be the best but like I said, there are pros and cons for both systems. I hope you do an upgrade in New Zealand if that is what you want and you can afford it of course. Thanks for the lovely videos. Safe travels

Mike I was originally surprised this brave sailor wasn't using a roller furler, regardless of how well she handles the fore sail changes, but when I read your comments and cautions I recalled Sir Robin Knox's circumnavigation and having read his book on the subject and the many midnight fore sail changes done in the Roaring 40s he had to do I realized this woman is, simply stated, a better and braver sailor than most of us. Fair Winds.
@MikeSantisАй бұрын
@@yojimbos1 still unecessary in our new times with the "luxury" of a furling headsail. I'd rather loose some performance but be safe.
@RustyKnorrАй бұрын
Hey Mike, have you ever had to take down a furling genoa in heavy weather when the furler jams? (They always jam eventually). You might not be so confident in the "crucial essential safety" of your hi tech furling gear when that happens. A hank on sail ALWAYS comes down when you release the halyard. A jammed furler? Yeah, good luck with that when it really matters.
@louisavondart9178Ай бұрын
Sitting at my kitchen table in Brussels, tapping away on my PC and watching you teaching your genoa a good lesson. I'd start yelling " rolling furler " but it's none of my business. Had I the money, I'd buy you one but if I had the money, I'd be sailing myself. Not sure my wife would like that though. She would say, " You're 68 and can't climb two flights of stairs, ya silly old bag ". So, I'll just say Well done and fair winds to you ! I hope you enjoy my old country of New Zealand and that you are not too shocked at the prices of everything. Definately subscribed.

I can relate to sail changes on the foredeck since I also didn’t have a roller furler like you. Haha, I think we both developed a similar squatting technique and taking the halyard with you releasing it with one hand while pulling the sail with the other. I had two forestays which came in quite handy to play with the foresails. In light winds I would run with two genoas wing on wing. You brought back great memories Say hi to Whangarei from me. During my solo circumnavigation, the most challenging and exhilarating passage was from Saldana, South Africa to Tonga via the Southern Ocean (between 50 and 60 degrees) and the Tasman sea. With no long range communication gear on board, it was just me and the Albatrosses for nearly 3 months. And the seas, the seas...... Later in the cruise, I went around Cape Horn and even though it was very late in the season and very cold, at least I didn't have to spend as much time in the Southern Ocean.

I'm envisioning a boat around 35ft with solar and electric motor and water maker as my dream boat. Keep up the great work, sending you love and positive vibes on your journey!

I really enjoyed this video. It shows the grind that sailing can be unlike so many other channels that just show the glamour. Your camera positioning was stellar and gave me the feel of being aboard with you. Subscribed and look forward to your content, Jax. 😎👍

Not many sailing channels get the rocking and rolling across like you do when you are on the foredeck. Really nice footage. Maybe you could do a segment of your camera setup? My best wishes for your adventure. Greetings from Norway 👋

I also wonder how you manage to keep the horizon steady and level in the recording :-) ? ? ?

She uses a gopro10 and she enabled in-camera horizon leveling.

Met you this morning via your video. You are a very brave and knowledgeable person to take on a trip like this and alone. I am a bit puzzled why you are not using jacklines and attached to the boat constantly. I hope you deployed a web ladder on both sides of the boat. I saw a clever boarding ladder on you tube recently. It's a web belt ladder and flexible which can be deployed on both sides of the boat and used while sailing. It's simply drags through the water. It didn't look easy to use but a fit person can pull themselves up to the deck. Thought I'd share. Take care.

Hi Richard. Thanks for your tips. I do have two boarding ladders aft of the boat. Clipping on at the mast is what I always do. But not always going over deck. Then I use the handrailing.

Good to see you are using the harness not many people do on y tube

The difficulty is that in rough seas you cannot see at night when you are sleeping whether the boat is hit from the side by the waves. The waves can then easily hit the boat and fill it with water.
@sailingloveworkxАй бұрын
When seas get rough I close the doors to prevent water coming in, as indeed you don't know when waves will hit you.

Wow you are an inspiration. I just turned 56 and wouldn’t have the guts to do this on my own even if I had enough knowledge. Would love to sail the world though!
