I took my first solo backpacking trip into the Mark O. Hatfield wilderness. Just an hour and a half from Portland Oregon, I hiked up Eagle Creek Trail, continued up to Wahtum Lake and then followed the Pacific Crest Trail ( PCT ), northwest to Cascade Locks. Along the way were waterfalls, volcanic rock formations, various types of forest including fire scarred forests, wildflowers and fresh streams to drink from.
