Are you planning any Solo Travel this year? If so, where are you going?

To satisy my interest in History and the WWII period in particular my next trip will be Gibraltar.

I'm headed to Ireland by myself next month. I can't wait! I love the freedom of exploring on my own.

I've been on a couple of guided tours, and they are fine. But I've mostly traveled on my own and prefer it.

I took a solo vacation to a place, for a weekend, about 3 hours away, and while it was very relaxing and nice, it was a tad lonely. A world traveler once told me that everyone should travel alone at least once in their life. I’m willing to do it again. Thanks for great videos.

Thank you! For me I do need to be in a certain mindset when I head off on a solo adventure. I find it does make engage with others a lot more than when traveling with family or friends 😊

I'm pushing 73 and except for an International Student Exchange trip for 2 months way back in 1973, I've always traveled alone and actually lived and worked in London, too. Last week I suggested to my brother that we go together to the little Sicilian town our grandfather came from and it immediately fell apart. The guy has no sense of anything except cruising and hotels.
@GenxGypsy1968 Жыл бұрын
You definitely have more autonomy when you travel alone, your brother is missing out 😂

I will be taking my first TRUE “solo-cation” in December, and one thing I have done is joined my bestie’s Life 360 group with her family. That way, her phone will be able to pinpoint my location at all times, as long as my phone is with me, of course. 😊
@GenxGypsy19682 жыл бұрын
Love this!! I have about 4 friends that we all share our locations with one another all the time. Just nice to have a little safety net!

Your insights into solocation have me pondering. I'm also delving into solo travel myself.

Hi. I'm a 77 year old male solo traveller with 71 countries spread over 50 odd years. I love your ideas. As a member of MENSA I know the rest of the world won't understand me. That's why I do it, if only to prove I'm right. Biggest problem I had was dealing with aggressive beggars in Costa Rica. A whack with my walking cane got the job done..

My first solo trip I was able to stay up in Chester, England with a Mensa host! You just reminded about that and I checked out Mensa Italy. I have NO Mensa group here in Southern NM...we tried to get one going but it died...I crave more intelligent people than what I have around me now....2 older women who really don't have my world view at all!

I’m a 55 years old man in amazing shape… although my mind is tricking me big time with all kind of fears. I’m actually diagnosed with general anxiety . Would love to travel alone to face and hopefully defeat my fears and demons … life is too short and don’t want to give up my life .
@GenxGypsy19682 жыл бұрын
You definitely should!! I have many family members with diagnosed anxiety and I know they work hard every day to face down those fears. Its well worth it, and every little action you take to face those fears just makes you that much stronger 😊💪

I'm coming to the US this summer, two years later than originally booked, and I'm so looking forward to being able to do and go exactly what/where I want. I'd waited more than a decade to return, but no-one wanted to spend that much money on a holiday and so in 2019 I thought Why am I waiting? I can do this on my own, so I booked for 2020 but we all know what happened then. Some people are horrified when I tell them I'm going alone, but others are full of admiration. At the end of the day no-one else's opinion matters though, its my life and my adventure - and I can't wait!

Exactly!! Good for you for following through 😊. Where are you going in the US?

@@GenxGypsy1968 A couple of weeks in NYC and Boston. Last time we took the train to Philadelphia for a day, I might do Washington this time. I love architecture (and I'm a city girl at heart) so I want to spend time wandering around all the different neighbourhoods in Manhattan and spend some time in Brooklyn too. I've been a few times before, so I've done a lot of the touristy things already, I just want to wander and soak up the atmosphere (and pretend that I live there lol - ever since I saw Rhoda as a little girl I wanted to live in NYC.)

As a longtime solo female traveler, I like the app on my phone that allows a trusted person or two to know exactly where you are in addition to my itinerary (that frequently flexes and sometimes downright goes sideways)
@GenxGypsy1968 Жыл бұрын
Exactly!! I have two friends and my daughter that have me on their "find Me" app. The only thing is if you are out of cell range, it won't pick up your signal. I find the National Parks are usually the main places this becomes an issue 😊

I love traveling by myself. I love traveling with my family as well but it’s nice to not have to take care of everyone too. I think there are great opportunities for both.

I have been hesitating for maybe 20 days now. I have renewed my passport, issued my Schengen visa, booked my flight and my accomodation, bought travel insurance and even local train ticket. Everything is ready to start my solocation on 10 July, but the only thing remaining is to convince myself that being selfish is ok. I just heard it from you.
@GenxGypsy19682 жыл бұрын
Sometimes being "selfish" is the best thing you can do for everyone else in your life 😊. I hope you have an amazing vacation, I would love to hear how it goes for you!!
@nandocame620 Жыл бұрын
no one will be with you longer than yourself, everyone and thing will come and go, accept that. Do get to know yourself. Do get to love yourself. Do take care of yourself. Do learn to love yourself. No one will be with you longer than yourself, others may let you down, lie to you, cheat you, use you, disrespect you, attack you. Don't do that to yourself. l love me and want the best for everyone and that starts with yourself loving yourself, best of luck

Also, I usually spend a week at NMB by myself every January. It's divine! I also explore our city (Charleston SC) by myself often, but I'm a certified guide so I really know my way around, I wish more locals would explore our area too, we have so much to offer!
@GenxGypsy19682 жыл бұрын
I love Charleston!! We were down there for the Bridge Run last September...hope to get down that way again in the fall. My BF has a friend who is a guide out of Bowen's Island, we did a Shark Tooth trip with him, so fun 😊
