This is the best breakdown of "1 Kings" that I've heard! David and Solomon were previously held up as only honorable. Obviously, by giving in to their most basic human tendencies (David-lust, betrayal, and intent to kill; Solomon-greed & willingness to turn away from God's commandment against idolatry and marriage outside of the Jewish faith), God changed their intended destinies. Only through David's reconciliation to God was the promise that the messiah would come through the line of David able to be fulfilled.
