Budgie is getting really good. Online accounts should be a feature.

i am a Solus user who is currently running 4.6 on a thinkpad e585 laptop with amd drivers. works okay for me but i posted a link on the solus forums Tom so maybe a developer will fix the issue you had when making this fine video . Thanks for posting .

I just upgraded my Solus Budgie 4.5 to 4.6 even though it shows 4.5 in the settings(they said in the forums it will do that on an upgrade), and I'm running it on my old Lenovo Thinkpad Eduseries X140e with an AMD A4-5000 APU w/12GB of DDR3 system RAM, and it's working fine for me as well.

Tom I spoke with Staudacy on the Solus forums . He said if you can rile a bug report he will try to fix the issue but he needs more information . his exact response was "Does he ever explain the issue in detail? I can only find the summarized version at the start of the video, but that doesn't really go into detail. Hopefully he found the "way to leave a bug report" (shouldn't have been too hard)."

Thanks. If I get the chance I will go over there and report the bug in more detail. Let them know it is on my list, but I have a lot on my list right now.

I wanted to post this for existing Solus Budgie users, that if your upgrading from 4.5 to 4.6 the settings will still say 4.5, only 100% fresh installs will say 4.6, and the dev team says this exactly as copied from their forums. "Harvey 14 days ago Notice: Existing installs that update will identify as Solus 4.5 and fresh installs with 4.6 ISO will identify as 4.6. This is due to the whole usr-merge nonsense that prevents us updating baselayout before the epoch repository is in place. You will just have to put up with this for now." So they're saying if the updates took, and it's working then don't worry about it, just make sure it updated to latest kernel to know if it did a full update after you rebooted your system. As always Tom excellent video, & I hope the devs get your issues solved quickly.

Xwayland really seems like the way to go. Runs with Wayland? Good. Doesn't run with Wayland? You're still good.

Hi, can you do a review of the other Solus editions too? Especially the new Solus XFCE Beta. It would be nice if you could compare their memory usage after restart, then open a few applications and some browser tabs. Finally compare start-up, in-use and after closing all applications and browser tabs. Solus XFCE comes with XFCE 4.18 and XFCE 4.20 is expected to release on 15 Dec 2024. Should be interesting to see how quickly Solus gets the major new XFCE version! Thanks 👍 (Posted on Thu 31 Oct 2024 at 13:35 UTC)

I watch all your videos when they come out. I really like the content. However, please, please, please stop saying "depreciate"when the word to use is "deprecate". You are not the only Linux KZbinr to use those words incorrectly. Love your stuff.
@antonyka-pra-raАй бұрын
Actually, according to Oxford dictionary -both words are verbs that have the same definition
@IAmTheSlink29 күн бұрын
Strange, when I look up "deprecate", Oxford says that it indicates obsolescence, particularly when discussing software. On the other hand, Oxford shows that "depreciate" indicates a loss of value over time, and uses currency as an example. Depreciation is not deprecation, and this confusion is oddly prominent in Linux related content.

I wouldn't put any faith in what the Solus team want to do. After Ikey left all they've done was keep the lights on while pretending like they're doing good progress on a plethora of grandiose ideas that never materialized. If they say they want to move wayland that means it might happen if Gnome and KDE do the heavy lifting and they can piggy back off of their work. Not that they'll no anything useful on their own.

"they can piggy back off of their work" Correct me if I am wrong here, but isn't that the entire point of Open Source?
