Telling obese people to eat less and exercise more is not an effective way to combat the obesity epidemic. There are many more ‘’hidden fatteners’’, and some of them are not difficult to change.
Dr. Elisabeth van Rossum has published more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications or books and received 20 awards for her scientific research. A clinical internist-endocrinologist, and a professor in the field of obesity and biological stress at the Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, she is also the head of Obesity Center CGG, an academic center for diagnosing underlying causes of obesity and for innovative treatment strategies of obesity. In her talk she exposes a surprising number of causes of obesity, as well as a number of simple steps to take to reduce the effects of those causes. The most important: reducing shame.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I don't understand why she's using the extreme cases (eternally hungry child and women with the cortisol shot) as examples of why the general population as a whole are obese.
@shiwolfe1166
@shiwolfe1166 4 жыл бұрын
@@matinannaji602 understood, but the question was 'why is the population as a whole becoming obese?', not 'what's making people with an extreme disorder obese?'. For example, people with Phenylketonuria need to avoid phenylalanine. Does that mean we ban sugar free sweeteners with phenylalanine for everyone? No. You can't apply treatments for people with extreme disorders to the general population.

Great info, but I want to add the quality of food also matters not only quantity. Also how food is processed and cooked, as well as when and how eat matters too. For example intermittent fasting can play a role in weight loss and improved metabolism.

Weight Loss Green Store Tea has cut my appetite down and keeps it down throughout the day. I also have a bad sweet-tooth and it has helped tremendously with that too. I have been using this for a few weeks now, haven't weighed myself, but my clothes are feeling looser and I'm a happy girl!

First says obesity is not just about eating to much and exercising too little, then proceeds to tell a story about a boy who is hungry all the time and eats too much as an example of how it's not just about eating too much and exercising too little. hmm

Peter Selie sundiii99OWS I understand that she didn’t make her point clear but the key here is hormones. Obese people have a hard time regulating their hormones in a balanced manner and thus feel hunger all the time and need to eat. Sugar and refined starch make the body gain weight by disrupting the proper function of hormones in the body namely insulin. There are lots of research in this subject or just search other ted talks about sugar.

This woman basically said, that to lose weight you gotta eat less and exercise more, and she did it sneakily , she said, cut the sugar, sleep more to be less stressed out and to eat less, and the part of brown fats was to tell to exercise more, and the crash diets was basically telling that they must stop insisting in miraculous diets

She is very informative and a good presenter. I learned quite a bit. I have two friends who are now morbidly and one super morbidly obese. They were addicted to pop and sugars and blew up, but they chose not to make a change. They eat greasy meats, processed foods, sugar sugar, I used to research things for them, help them, pat them on the backs until I figured out it was all talk! Obesity is a psychiatric disorder; let them die, It's nature's way. The millions of tax dollars put out for these two women over decades is just indecent. They eat like Kings. They weigh over the 400 lb mark. Just give them all the food they need and let them die. That's what the American culture does. It takes tax dollars and fills up their freezers, sends them to nursing homes when their skin explodes or they get some kind of illness. If they didn't have all that food, they wouldn't be obese but we just keep delivering wonderful meals to them and they get bigger every day. We pay for their lives so they will die sooner and stop taking our tax dollars to the toilet every day.

Yes and no, the part of reducing the stress by sleeping more and so on, and the part of the chocolate and all the foods that alter your hungry hormones is really, finally, how to eat less, that's data we must take into account to finally cut the calories intake, indeed it should make it easier, but it is not a green light to eat whatever you want, you have to cut off your chocolates, donuts, cookies, etc. and that can be tought for most people

Men don't know how to cook. How about taking some responsibility instead of blaming it on working women? How about going to your job by bike instead of a car? How about US citizens letting their children play outside and go home by themselves? How about a change of culture?
