I was lucky enough to have Dylan William as a form tutor and Maths teacher back in the early 80's in London and he was without a doubt the best teacher I ever had and inspired me to go onto further education. He certainly is in a class (no pun intended) of his own when talking about education.

That's good to know. I always listen to what he has to say but often wondered what his actual teaching was like.

Back in Saskatchewan the saying in teaching was "Thirty and out." When I got to year thirty I began saying to myself and others: "I just learned how to do this job. I'm not going to quit now." In year thirty-eight, I broke my leg in the school parking lot. I struggled to stay in the game for a couple more years to make it forty. Was trying to match Grandpa's forty-three. Yeah, I miss building great relationships with the thousands I had the privilege of making a difference in their lives, but I am thankful for the memories. My dog and I now enjoy reviewing material from my masters program. Brings back more great memories. You never stop learning.

Excellent sharing. So true that we teachers experience failure on a daily basis and professional development is essential just as scientific investigations. On a different note, I think, teaching the basic calculus concept in elementary level is crucial, not only essential for the next-generation learners but also beneficial to teachers. It is about philosophical, logical and critical thinking skills. Teaching numbers, addition and multiplication is the technical content, teaching the category theory, fractals, calculus concept is about thinking. That's why Isaac Newtown didn't think he's a mathematician or physicist, but a scholar addressing philosophical issues with the mathematical and physics framework and tools to understand the reality. Aristotle was in the same camp, and he was humble to admit that his philosophical view was limited by his understanding of the physical world. In the modern world, the modern mathematical and science knowledge is essential thinking framework instead of technical tools. I have tried teaching the basic calculus concept to elementary school students and they can understand. I teach it to my lower secondary students and high school students as well, as a general thinking tool. Looking for professionals to explore further.

Excuse me I have just a question What deference between Teacher quality and Teaching Quality?
@sokdethdin95552 жыл бұрын
teacher quality focuses on a person who fulls of knowledge in a career. Teaching quality depends on the teaching strategy of teacher uses, if a person has high skills he/ she will have quality in teaching. just I idea

What he didn't mention is the lowering standard of students entry in UK, which leads to student's cohorts that are sliding down in capabilities; but as an educator you are supposed to achieve learning even when students don't want to be there or shouldn't be there. Especially, in the high fees era.

Did you hear the part when he said that when you start blaming the students, that's a problem?......

Ask any teacher why did they take up teaching, they will tell you because they get the summers off! This in itself tells you they have only getting an added bonus on their mind! The bonus is ignoring the pupils at their expense. You have a staff of people who have more intrest in vacation then helping kids. That's what the main problem is !!! Lazy people teaching your kids!

I don't know a single teacher that thinks that way...and I've been in education 22 years.....maybe you should have a look at yourself and see if you can figure out why you're so angry?

Oh well said,sir!!!! But To think of all of the teachers as such could be a big mistake.

@@mattschmidt7970 Woow indeed. I've also been in education for about 7 years now! I actually think the summer off is way too long hahaha. I actually can't wait to start teaching again around week 3 or something XD.
