Loved the meseda footage; brought back some good memories 👍

I know plenty of people say they don't love it...but I am a big fan of the Meseta sections.

That view as you approach Hontanas is impressive and certainly a sight for sore eyes after a long day on La Meseta (or in your case: a sight for sore feet!). Did you check out the small chapel, called the "Ermita de Santa Brígida", at the entrance to the village? The statue is of Saint Bridgit of Sweden (1303 - 1373). I heard about this from a Swedish pilgrim I met while walking out of Villafranca Montes de Oca. Her name was also Birgitta, and she told me the story, it was very interesting. I found it very moving to come across the chapel at Hontanas several days later. Not all chapels, or even churches, have a profound affect on me, but some do.

It’s a cool site after a long and sunny walk. I did check out the little chapel there. I should have taken more video in the towns. I will on future trips.

If it is to hot, dont destroy your feet with the warmth. Walk at night instead, se if you can stealth camp. Isint the shoes working? For me the Altras are pretty good, but of course walking when its that hot.. I would problaby need to take it very easy or walk when its colder.
@CaminoGuide3 жыл бұрын
The Altras were incredible actually. My feet blister terribly. Going 30 and even 40km is a lot for me. In any other shoe I could imagine my feet would have been a disaster. So I did get plenty of blisters this time but far fewer than I would expect. When I was in the Marines, I would have blisters of 2-3 inches across within 8 miles or so. (Heavy boots with bad socks) So at least for me, blisters are just part of the Way. That’s not true of everyone.
@DanielOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
@@CaminoGuide Yeah i was too a sjt and walked the Nigmegen march in the nerderland ( actually you can walk that too as a sivilian btw), but I recall the Heavy boots. I still use them on wintertime though. The Hot Sun and Humid is a killer. Your base weight is pretty low too from what I have seen. So its only the sun problaby you need to avoid then.
@CaminoGuide3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I’m carrying very little weight. Heat and moisture were the only enemies there, and the Meseta in July was very dry.

I'd love to hear about your drone. It is something I've often thought of getting when out travelling like this. What make is it? Great video by the way, it really captured why the Camino is so great.

Thank you! I have the original Mavic Air. I got this one because it can be flown with a phone only. I liked leaving the controller at home. But after doing it this way, I will take a Mavic Mini in the future. Mavic Mini 3 could come out any time. The Mavic Air with phone only had a pretty limited range. It worked okay and you can see I got decent shots. But in the future I will just take the Mini and controller so I can fly farther.

Which Altrias did you end up using?
@CaminoGuide3 жыл бұрын
I ended up walking wearing the Altra Olympus. They were a little small so I lost toenails. But even being a little small, they were incredibly comfortable and held up well. I will be wearing these for future Caminos (though another 1/2 size up!).

@@CaminoGuide so you like them more than the Salomons you were recommending earlier. I have been trying out several shoes including ASICS running and Saucony Running Shoes and some Hoka and Saucony Trail runners. I love the running shoes, but haven’t found a trail runner that I love. I was planning on trying the Salomons next. My plan is to bring two pair of shoes, one runner / one trail runner. Like you I sometimes have feet issues and alternating shoes helps.

Have you done a video on dealing with a blister? You keep up the good work buddy. You are inspiring!
@CaminoGuide3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t made one yet. The whole time this summer I thought “I need to make this video” and just never did. I will make it when I go back in May. Or maybe I just need to go do a training walk until I get a good one!

Hello, i want to do The camino, do you had to do quaranten our pcr test to get to SJPP?! Thanks
@CaminoGuide3 жыл бұрын
I had to do neither to get to Spain and as of this summer, the French were not checking ground transportation coming from Spain. But the answer to your question will be dependent upon your country and the country you will fly into. I would consult some of the official travel sites for your specific itinerary. And know that it may change. That said, Spain rules are fairly relaxed if you are vaccinated.

@@CaminoGuide im going from Portugal, and i got vaccinated. Thank for your time! 🙏🏻 Bon camino

Air Portugal has a good site for checking the different restrictions. With vaccination you will probably just need to show proof of it. www.flytap.com/en-us/travel-restrictions?accordionid=507719b2-0386-4fe6-9200-dfd54f680191

Everyone… please sleep a little longer. The CAMINO ain’t going nowhere! No need to leave at dawn. Drink water, then beer, then after lunch you can have wine! Keep on truckin partna!

I don’t know why others get up early. I am not a morning person. But I only get up early on hot days. If I can walk most of my walk before it gets hot, then I can sit all afternoon drinking beer and enjoying friends.

Why don't you wear a hat or sunglasses, hiking 30 km out in the open sun can be dangerous..
@CaminoGuide3 жыл бұрын
The umbrella is much better than a hat. It covers more of your body it doesn’t hold the heat into your head. I’ve never been into sunglasses while walking. You are always going East with the sun behind you!

@@CaminoGuide thanks, I cant hike without sunglasses or a hat, but that makes sense. Buen Camino!
