I played it for a bit as my brother got it from a friend who imported it but I didn't speak English in elementary school. Played a German fan translation in like 2001 on emulators... after 7 for PC, which was the first one in PAL regions....terrible second degree translation from the English one.

Same. Heck, it was my introduction to RPGs as a whole. I'd never heard of, nor even imagined turn-based games existing (not counting things like board game adaptations) until a friend introduced me to Final Fantasy 6. And ever since I picked up that controller, and played my very first battle, turn-based RPGs have been my indisputable favorite video game genre for nearly 30 years. Needless to say, Final Fantasy 6 remains my favorite Final Fantasy game, with absolutely no bias whatsoever. >.>

Well, you are kind of right... You translated it litteraly when it should really be "left hand". It was a weapon invented to be held in your left hand while you weilded a primary weapon in your right, most often a rapier or a sword of some kind. It was designed for defence and to either rip the primary weapon of your adversary from their hand or brake a weak blade (like a rapied) during a duel. And yes, the name camefrom the hand you held it.

Can I just say I love seeing Jerd play this? It's as close as we'll get to his initial reaction to FF6, and seeing is face light up with joy is just so wholesome. Plus I haven't done a playthru myself in decades so it's nice to get a refresher.

You playing this mod inspired me to check it out. Man I started out so hot on it, but I quit right at the end of the WoB. Every single enemy hitting us with guaranteed status ailments every fight got really old.

@ I had one or two of them, I just don’t find requiring an anti ailment accessory to be good or fun game design. Like I get there being areas where it’s needed or highly encouraged, but like the entire game? That’s freakin lame I wanna use the fun accessories. Also, putting a ribbon on a couple of my characters certainly makes things “easier” but it doesn’t cut down on the tedium because I’ll still have to go into my menu after every single fight and heal hp/ailments of the characters that don’t get the ribbon.

@@brandonslaughter5443 Yeah cant denie that and yeah it get even worse in some part so usually the one that doesnt have the ribbon are my heavy hitter they would nuke most enemy before they even get the chance to do a turn. Also help that i basically save state after every fight.

@ yeaaah. And that’s basically my biggest issue. Like EVERYTHING about the game besides the way difficulty is done I love. I have even enjoyed how difficult the game was up to this point, but creating difficulty through unfairness and tedium aren’t really something I find fun. Which really bums me out because of how much I was loving the game up till then.

@@brandonslaughter5443 Yeah the fact that even with the Exp egg and me abusing grinding on Celes on every encounter i have found i STILL feel underlevel which is bad if i didnt have the speed up option on emulator i would have dedicated an entire play session just to grind. If they give me 3x exp and 3x AP per fight then it would have been much more balance. And even if you cant remove enemy giving bullshit status atleast give a hint on which enemy to watch out for. Enemy that can do a full party blaster can suck MY ASS

Watching Locke just steal the clothes off people's backs has to be one of the funniest things I've seen in this game so far. What a great playthrough this is, I can't wait to see how it ends.

I like how he remembered to check the relics to see if Celes was possibly learning magic, but there's still the other equipment. From what I recall, it was weapons and shields that actually can teach magic. Edit: Nevermind, he actually checked near the end of the video.

I'm most of the way through my playthrough of this and I gotta say if I could add one feature it would be the ability to check the item stats while the item is equipped. It is so much of a pain to have to unequip your item then scroll through your big list of items to double check it's special features.

20:20 so the "Magic Up" status that appear on earring or stuffs is actually a buff so beside the 3 magic it naturally give it also Boost it by a % ammount by that hidden status so dont just look at the magic stat for later relic it will outshine the base stat or earring later but the % increase will alway be there so it doesnt fall off as hard and only the hero ring is a straight upgrade. Also you are right that it cant stack in this but that mean more relic option

@@ViddyWellSA11 Low-effort "pixel remasters" (which were rightfully derided for being low effort) vs the "HD-2D" that the first three Dragon Quest games just got equals "no love." I've said it multiple times on different channels that it's due to the Enix-led merged company ultimately getting revenge against Square winning their rivalry back in the '90s only to have lost everything at the last second right before the merger (which Square initiated to buy out Enix, BTW) when The Spirits Within bombed at the box office.

I wish SquareEnix didn't have to censor Celes' beatings in the Pixel Remaster. It also makes sense in the context of her feeling weak and having difficulty walking. That got through Nintendo censors 30 years ago along with a suicide attempt, Cyan's little boy getting murdered, a teen pregnancy, and a furry crossbreeding. It's apparently because Japan's ratings system changed and beating a bound person would force it to be a mature title, which is apparently like an NC17 over there.

It is disturbing, as it should be. Emperor Gestahl schemes to take over the world with magic, but I don't find that as horrifying as the mundane brutality of that guard beating a helpless captive. But it's not the worst in this game: in one of the towns, the Imperials are making dogs fight. It gets me so upset.

yes the equipment teaches magic and the espers have also been "changed" and a new costume set in the game will alter stats later but if jared struggles with the kefka fight he mite quit the game should he make it to the floating island. Atma weapon will be a BEAST to fight ( the fight has broken many players into quiting)

I'm trying to remember if there was a trick to him. I beat him in my mid to high 20s (all my characters were level 28 when I finished the floating continent) and I remember I had to fight him twice but I don't remember how I beat him. There is probably some trick to him, almost all the bosses have some sort of trick.

I both like and hate the new Celes sprite. I like the old one better, but I always felt it looked kinda similar to Edgar. And did it have to be a female-exclusive whip for Celes? Just finished FF6 on switch, I forgot how easy the game was. Once I got Ultima, which was pretty much immediately after getting to WOR, it was over. And grinding for an hour on the floating continent.

@@xMaGuSx888 I think this hack lean abit too far on the opposite side of the difficulty like bruh technically your first legal cure 2 is all the way over Strago and it only for 3 people at abysmal learning rate with equipment. And trust me it only the start of how insanely difficult this hack is cuz Ribbon feel practically mandatory. FF6 was an easy game you could literally just press attack and win most fight, later on use Magic to nuke everything and even later just Ultima spam. But this is just too much

That's understandable, if you haven't played it in a long time. For how easy the game is, I remember that there were certain bosses that would regularly kick my ass when I was younger, and far less experienced at playing RPGs. The main one that comes to mind being the tentacles in Figaro's engine room. I found that boss brutal as a kid, because I didn't know where to acquire some of the Hermes Sandles prior to reaching it, and I also don't think I knew that equipping said relic outright prevented the tentacles from being able to grab you.

Yes there is some more early game notibly fire 1 from earring and the massively useful Cure 2 later on Strago village hat, other have them too like Gigas Armlet teaching protect but those arent as essensial

Final Fantasy games always describe items with names that are considered significant in Japanese culture as "from a foreign land". Genji items, Masamune and other samurai items, black belt, etc. This is a little subtle way to sneak Japan into their fantasy worlds. The "foreign land" means Japan.

I wanted to play this on real hardware but the hack is made for emulators. It's playable but there are graphic glitches and sound issues at some parts. Wish someone would make a version of this that works on a real SNES.

Ah, I had the same problem. Here's the solution: turn off the in-game hooks in the ED menu. Fixes the graphic glitching etc.

I don't like Celes sprite here. The artist didn't sprite her outfit properly to give her any shoulders. In the original sprite, Celes is wearing a cape and armor shoulder pads which cover up her shoulders and there is no need for them. However, she is wearing an outfit now, not armor and her cape.
