I re-met (we went to high school together) my wife back in 2009. She and I were just friends for years. I found her to be gorgeous and I wanted to date her. She eventually told me about the ostomy and I went and researched all about it. So I would understand. I cared for her more than how she pooped.... yeah there are 4 am wake ups to change sheets. Multiple changes of clothing... frustration (for her not me). It’s never once bothered me. She’s my sweetheart. So anyone watching this worrying about dating someone with an ostomy should know it has zero effect on the ability to love someone. 2 years married and I couldn’t be happier!

I remember being dumped when I was in hospital. Its awful. What a horrible thing to go through. But I seen it as a blessing for me. In the long run it taught me the people who are truly there for me. All the admissions, I got cdiff too, which was horrendous. All this has taught me to be strong and be happy in my own space. I now have a wonderful partner who really supports me, and were about to go through me getting an ileostomy. I'm really feeling very secure and supported, thank goodness. It proves to me that there is a plan for us, and we just have to have faith to get past it all. I'm so happy you found Joel, it's amazing xxxx

Sharing your story is so brave and inspiring, God bless you for all you do to make others with an ostomy feel “normal” which we are...my husband went out of his way to not make me feel like I was gross. He’s never once made me feel bad and I love him for it. I love your advice to talk about the ostomy positively!

Thank you for this I’ve had lots of people turn me down because of my ostomy and them thinking it’s to much for them to handle if we are dating or it’s disgusting. Thank you for making a video about it. I’m kinda in that space where you said you gave up on dating.

If someone doesn't like you as you became, that means they never liked you as you were until your new lifestyle. Take it easy, you are not alone. I've just joined the club weeks ago. When started watching your videos, I realised that I'm not alone. Thank you for sharing your experience, despite the fact I have to live with a "double trouble ". Lol. Take care and stay safe.

What a great video. You are wise beyond your years. You are absolutely right about being with positive people. I have been very lucky because my husband of 42 years has been loving & supportive throughout my illness. I had my ileostomy 15 months ago & still have ongoing health problems. However, my life is so rich because of the love & care that I receive from my husband, children & grandchildren. My very best wishes to you & Joel. From Kit in York, England. X

What a jerk. I had a colostomy for several years and got it reversed, While I had it I hated it. It was a pain because back in 1970 there wasn't the kind of options available now for it, the belt to hold the bag dug into the incisions from the surgery on the opposite side of my abdomen from the colostomy, smelly leaks and many other problems. Now I can say that even though it was at first a bit disgusting, it was a lot better than the alternative. I appreciate your frankness about your experience having an ostomy, I have had many discussions with others that have needed a colostomy about why to not be ashamed of the fact that you need it, in fact, I encourage them to openly share it, what it is, how it works, why it was needed, with anybody that even seems curious in the slightest. Keep up the great posts!

Now I am stuck in a lousy nursing home lost everything else lost my pets and nobody calls me or comes to see me. Not even from my church. How do you do it you are a real trooper God bless you 😇 I like the sound of the birds in the background. Cardinals right ?

I'm 61 and had anal cancer so I had to have the surgery done to and I now wear a bag also. However my concern is that it's taking so long to heal and I've just regaining my ability to urinate properly, but I still have to wear a diaper for leaks and because of my wound dressings. But another thing is that they also must have saw the need to remove my vagina. I kinda think that this is the worst of all of it because it takes away my ability to make love, if you have any advice please let me know.

Hey Jason! I did have my entire colon removed. I still have my rectum. My surgeon could reconnect me by attaching my small intestine to my rectum. Feel free to ask any question you want. It’s a lot to learn at first!

Id have no problem with that. Its just a bag. No different to wearing underwear. Just something a person has on there body. It can be covered during private times in the bedroom with a partner. The persons personality and character should mean more than one tiny little bag. Its really not a big deal. As long as the person keeps up there hygiene. Not a big deal at all.
